Okay i was thinking about starting lotro a few months ago after a year break but i have a few things on my mind,
with all the new games on the horizon like wotlk, darkfall, aion, spellborn etc etc
do you think that lotro will maintain enough subscribers?
do people actually play this game "hardcore" or is it just a "filler" game till these new mmo's hit the streets?
I dont really want to be subscribing to something that might be dead in the next few months because of all the new games.
sorry if this post offends any of you keen lotro players, i understand this post has a troll-esque feel to it.
but i genuinely want to know will this game still have a decent community during all the new releases

Played: Wow, EQ2, LoTRo, SRO, KO, DAoC, RFO, LoA.
Waiting for: Darkfall, Aion, WoTLK.

I don't see not enough subscribers being an issue any time soon. The game has a pretty solid 'core' fanbase that really like the game for the lore (the Lord of the Rings story), and will be here until the Turbine stops creating and releasing new areas. The game is pretty fun in itself as well
I dont think any of thoose games you mentioned are going to have any impact on LotrO at all! Just a bucnh of niche games and the WoW expansion... The 2 games that were supposed to steal subs from LotrO, WAR and AoC, have been released and there impact have been very limited (and maybe even having a positive impact in the long run) and most people who left for thoose games seems to be coming back!
With the first expansion coming in less than a month I think its other games who should worry, not LotrO
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
LOTRO will not die anytime soon. If thats the only worry you have then go ahead and buy it.
You might also want to talk to your real life friends what they planning to try and that said you might wanna give various free trials a try together with your friends to decide.
The newbie areas of lotro have never been very crowded but the player mass is channeled into linear carreers and quest routes so you will sooner or later reach spots that are packed with players.
When a game is good like Lotro it will never die because a new game comes out. Lotro now has its devoted userbase and nonthing will ever change that. I mean games like Everquest 2 and Lineage 2 are still going strong and they are 5 years old.
