Do mercs age in the merc room?

I plan on having a dynamic team build having reserved mercs in my merc room and changing my active mercs depending on the type of opponents I am about to face in free league… I gave up on the notion that there is one consistent teambuild that can topple all other team biulds.. in order to win consecutively in free league, you must have a dynamic team that constantly changes and adapts to strategies depending on the type of opponent you are about to face. This is i guess one of the reasons why there are so many slots in the merc room... hjowever i wuld like to know if mercs also age in the merc room?

i just checked it out and i noticed that yea, i think mercs do ae in the merc room. though i just bought my archer last week, it's already almost as old as my swordie which i got when i started the game.
