While I'll agree I-III wasn't my cup of tea and I only watch/own the original 3 (IV-VI). You can't even call the movies a failure every single star wars movie of the 6 set series made the Top 100. Here's the results.

I was 7 when I went to see The Empire Strikes Back in the drive in theatre. It was the most awesome thing I had ever seen. It was loud and full of explosions and breathtaking music. The acting was spot on incredible and the story was compelling.
3 years later I got all hyped up to watch The Return of the Jedi, and when I came out of the theatre I was like: 'What the hell was that?'
At age 10 Return completely disappointed me. Yet from Lucas's point of veiw it was the best of the three. I was just a kid and I enjoyed the drama and interplay of characters in Empire more than I liked the stupid puppet show that was Return. Sure, Return had it's good points, but they were overshadowed by all the stupidity.
I think people underestimate kids these days and what they can understand. They seem to want to dumb everything down. Well if you keep making kids watch dumbed down shit what do you get? Dumb kids.
Lucas lost touch with what Star Wars was about. It was like a great Greek tragedy, full of intrigue and betrayal. It was about the characters, not the special effects. I tried to enjoy the prequels as they were 'supposed' to give some background for the characters in the original series and bring understanding for why they did what they did. But it failed, and all it did for me is make a character I liked, Vader, into a whining little bitch I couldn't stand.
Lucas needs to give it up. The first two movies were good precisely because they weren't 'just' like he wanted them to be. Lucas's failure was Star War's success.
Bioware has shown, at least to me, that they understand what made the Star Wars universe great. KOTOR, and to a lesser extent KOTOR 2 give you that feeling of the interplay of characters and intrigue. I can only hope that they have figured out a way of bringing this kind of feeling to their MMO. If not, well I am sure it will be worth buying, even if just for the single player story. If it's an online KOTOR 3 so be it. The first month is free and that's longer than it takes to beat any single player game I've ever played.

Loved the movies when I was a kid and still enjoy them as an adult. Star Wars is probably one of the greatest franchises of all time
