    John Smedley:
I think since there was no date announced with the game, it's safe to assume it will be released far enough in the future that is not any immediate issue for Galaxies players. We do not know when that game is going to launch, I don't believe they know when that game is going to launch. For the foreseeable future, Galaxies is quite safe. How long that is, I think has more to do with how and when that game comes along.
At some point we'll make a decision about when and if to sunset Galaxies, but as of right now we don't have any plans to do that.

That interview makes it sound like SOE has no more clue how long SWG is going to exist than we do.  I can't believe that will instil confidence in the existing playerbase.

It's also a complete contrast to what Neri (sp) had to say. Sounds like SOE may just drop it on their own, regardless of what LA has to say.

I would imagine that Smedley and SOE are pretty eager to get rid of SWG now that TOR has been announced.  SWG has been a thorn in their side for years.

Which new games are you thinking of? Sure the graphics were good 5 years ago but it have happened a lot since then. Sure, a few games are trying to sell old graphics but most new and upcoming games are at least graphicly a new generation. Just look on the water in your screenshot, theres one of the things that have been updated a lot.

Some new textures and some work with water, lightning, fog and shadows would do miracle to the game. I Agree with the OP, if SWG plan to exist after the old republic they need to fix these things. Question is if they will do it or if Smedley will cut his losses. Too bad in that case, it is an intrestig game. I do hope that they either fix it up or make a SWG2 with the best things from all the 5 years of the game.

    Agreed.

They have other games (DCUO etc...) that are in the pipline.  IMO they are probably looking forward to when the whole SWG fiasco can be finally put behind them.  Where they can start to rebbuild their rep based on their merits rather than have a continual open bleeding wound.

Probably because that graphics engine was never designed for spastic, ludicrous speed movement of everything.  Even vehicles are way the hell too fast.

I expect things to get ugly between SOE and LEC in the coming months.  SOE now has nothing to lose by trying to extricate themselves from blame for the failure of SWG by attacking LEC.

I fully expect $OE to make 1 more drastic push to save SWG from the cutting board.  With LA saying they will let the market tell them what to do with SWG and Smed admitting that TOR will have it's impact on SWG,  SOE will have to make that push or just come to the realization of "sunset".

Now........, will that drastic push be another CU, NGE, or C6CD?  Knowing $OE, probably.  Why would they CHANGE their shoot themselves in the foot tactics, now?

The only chance they have IS what has been said here for years.  Try a classic server.  While some have said that time is over, some others have made it clear, they would come back to try it.  That's about the only chance I see they have, at all.

    Without that?  "It's DEAD, Jim"

  • Won't happen at this point.  LEC won't let them.  Furthermore, LEC really has no interest in continuing SWG post new game release.

And SOE's bunch of incompetents couldn't possibly run the classic game anyway.  They completely lack the ability.  Probably the only Dev team that could would be CCP's.
