Looking for a new game (warning i am picky)

Death1942Death1942 Member UncommonPosts: 2,587

ok so i want a variety of classes like in Vanguard and Everquest 2 (if possible) or a cleric (dnd style) or other kind of powerful healer or hybrid (healer + X) class.

a detailed world would be nice.

this is the must have.  I am looking for a game that is dungeon intensive.  in other words dungeons can be grinded off or many people do them frequently (all the time not only at max level).  an example of this was when i spent 4 hours in a dungeon in Vanguard and it was a blast.

so if anyone can match a game to those requirements i would be over the moon

i dont mind FTP but from personal experiance their worlds are sparse and classes limited.  Pay to play is fine and i honestly dont care how old the game is (as long as it has players playing...but that ties into my love of dungeons...you can takle dungeons without players after all)

MMO wish list:

-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

You might consider Runes of Magic (currently in beta).  It will have persistent, instanced, and dynamically generated dungeons.  They also allow dual classing (Warrior/Priest, Warrior/Mage etc.) so you could consider that a big variety.  Here's the link to their dungeon info:

Yes I have a suggestion, Vanguard or EQ2. You describe your experience as a "blast" in Vanguard. My question to you is why a new game? Both EQ2 and Vanguard are great games (even with their problems). Now if you have been playing both for a couple years and done most of the content then I would understand. However I suggest playing both at least til you reach the level cap, if you are having a blast.

Have we become so short of attention that we need to jump from game to game, never really getting deep in to the game? I have seen this more and more over the years in mmos. This may be do to the fact there are a lot more game choices now then 8 years ago. It also may be do to the fact that we want our entertainment in quick fast bits. The mmo world has gotten more popular with console type gamers mainly because of WoW. Console gamers talk about getting 40 or 50 hours of game play as a deep experience. They try mmos like WoW and enjoy them but they are not capable of putting the 100s of hours needed to enjoy the mmo experience. Now, I am not saying this is the case with the OP, but I wonder why if they are having a blast in Vanguard they are looking for a new game?

ok when i said new game i meant something i have not really played for more than 2 weeks (read EQ2 and Vanguard in that catagory).  I left Vanguard due to both AoC and the fact that my PC was crap.  i recently got a new PC and have been too slack to re-install it.  As for EQ2.  it seemed like too much of a grind when i tried it.  i dont know if its because i was confused as to where i should go to level or whether i chose the wrong class, i dont know.  One thing about EQ2 that ticked me off was the lack of groups in my primetime (i am Australian) so i only ever experianced the first 2 dungeons outside of freeport (sad i know).

my attention span isnt the problem, its things like questing (i cant stand this...even in Lotro where its a good story and somewhat fun quests, it still drives me insane) and the lack of groups.  put those 2 together and i have no real urge to play the game.  personally i am a fan of grinding and especially instance grinding.  considering i only played 2 dungeons in EQ2 in the whole 2 weeks that i was there and about 4 in Vanguard (all decent due to being open world) i doubt i have seen the best dungeons (maybe thats something i can work for, look forward to).

I don't know how open minded are you, but for the sheer amount of dungeons I suggest WoW, particularly 60+, you can grind as many as you like.

If you tried already the game and didn't like it then you are only left with SoE games, in order of Dungeon fun, Everquest, Vanguard, EQ2 (at least in my experience)

Problem with those 3 games is that is difficult to find a group at low level, while in WoW is much easier.

The SoE games though have better communities and grouping is more fun, so it's up to you.

If you choose SoE though be aware that your game can change focus at any time and without any notice ;)

yeah i noticed that in SWG

i've had my fill of WoW (forever) and though i could instance grind, a few months back they changed the level range for a bunch of the instances reducing my ability to instance grind off of them.  Also i cant stand the thought that all these (old) 60 dungeons are now near empty of players when they sounded like so much fun.

anyway i am now tossing up between EQ2 and Vanguard i guess (unless someone has another suggestion).  I love the DnD cleric so which one of these has a class like that or similar to it.  alternatively list all the healing classes

Spellborn is releasing very soon, the noob area is free so it might be worth a look. Dunno how many dungeons there are though, havn't played it yet.

Otherwise you should go back to EQ2, it is a nice game. :)

Death1942 I hate questing it's gotten boring over the years and become a huge hassle for me and it sometimes turns me off from the MMO... but I hate quesitng in all MMOs lol I hate them all equaly! so I understand where you are coming from not wanting to quest or grind for 2 weeks to show improvement in your charater.  There is still hope and light at the end of the tunnel for you 3 games cross my mind and I'll put them in order as they should be played.  Guild Wars, Shadowbane, Warhammer Online. all of these are fairly quick leveling, shadowbane you can reach max level in 2-3 days there is no quests at all in the game, guild wars once you learn it takes only a matter of days to max out and have all you need to enjoy end game.  As for warhammer its the newest of the three you can level in it by grinding and pvp but it will  still take you about 3 week of playing to get a toon to max.

Your best bet is too try Guild Wars alot of EQ2 and Vangaurd guys play it and enjoy it as a side game... thats what I plan to do play Vangaurd for pve /crafting and Guild Wars for excitment in pvp conflict.  hope this helps you some.

Have you played Turbine's D&D Online? You must have played it and got tired of it cause you just described it to a tee!

thank you for the replies.  Guild wars was the 2nd MMO i ever picked up and it still remains on my hardrive, ready for those quick flings into the world when i am bored of other games.  it does not hold my attention for more than a week unfortunately, but with small patches and a great storyline and pvp it does make for an exciting week.

DDO was fine, except for the problems with grouping...big problems.  Warhammer was ok, i did enjoy open world pvp with my friend however the game was not that appealing to begin with (only picked it up because a friend wanted me to play with him) also the lack of dungeons (i think they started in T3) was a turn off.
