Once you experience a 200+ player RvR fight...you're never the same

So let's set the back drop:

Sever: Averheim

Faction: Destro

So, some time ago a large contingent of Destro guilds formed an alliance (~300 people) and went about the task of assaulting Altdorf.  That was fun but not really exciting as the Order numbers were lacking.

But, Order has started to get their act together and are bringing respectable numbers and actually using tactics.  Having experienced an RvR skirmish with some 200 players going at it - the game felt epic again.  Even dying was enjoyable.  Really how often can you say that - DYING was enjoyable.  Fireballs were flying, Chaotic Rifts were sucking people in, Sorcs were laying pits of shades.  My only regret is that I got so caught up in the euphoria of it all that I neglected to  hit the fraps button.  I die a little inside every time I think about.

That single encounter has ruined the game for me.  I find myself logging in with this void that can only be filled by mass bloodshed.  I need carnage!  I crave it now.  I've GOT TO HAVE IT!!!

Any Order out there wishing to truly test your resolve.  I invite you to come to Averheim.  T2 and T3 RvR won't disappoint but T4 will be an epic slaugther fest.  I NEED YOU TO JOIN.  There can never be enough lambs to slaughter.  *Taps vein like a heroine addict while logging in*   Ahhhhhhhhh

And yes...I'm currently seeking counseling.

This weekend I was in a huge RVR fight in  Averheim and I was dead behind the keep, and all the Magus was doing was using the exploit to rift people through the Keep walls, I quit the game already, and yes this was a big factor.....it will be nerfed but a little too late, game is too imblanced for me, order classes are bland....an MMO has only weeks after launch to impress the masses, mythic has failed and it will cost them.

Some Fanbois are saying, "thats ok, in the end we will only have a few servers and on those servers will be the faithful, thats all we need"  although there is a company called EA  that will see low servers as a LOSS and shut that shit down, count on it......

Haha yeah it doesn't get much better than massive fights. Although I don't think my computer would like 200 people on the screen at once, but it's alright at 100.

You should join the military.  Once you are around real combat, you will see that pixels don't matter.

I would love to experience the city raids but alas my server has low/med population at the mo. Looking forward to the server transfers so I can get stuck into some proper RvR.

You know, I read these posts and smile a little.

    200 players huh?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIlbbOKJrjI

Look - this is not intended as a plug for WWIIOnline... or a dig at WAR... it's just that having 200 players in a battle is not new.

It seems many people don't know that?

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.

  • 200 players would be cool.  To bad that happens only .001 percent of the time and the rest of the time the game sucks.

I play non-guilded on Ostermark on the Order side. However, I do know (heard the conversation) of a 3 guild alliance which will be well over 500 people that is really REALLY planning a big push soon. That will be awesome to see! Destro better get their battle plans together and sharpen those mangled pieces of metal they call weapons.

Way to throw a comment in that will only stir up a derail that has no end.

Dude I know how you feel but on a smaller scale. I was randomly wandering the shadowlands when i came across a keep, next thing I know I'm in a battle with over 100+ people over the keep, next thing I know its midnight and my eyes hurt.  Can't wait to do it again!

I can't even imagine what things are like at a higher level with more skills in play.

I think so far I have seen maybe 80 to 100 people in WAR rvr going at it.  It was really fun but there was some really nasty lag thrown in too.

Believe it or not, even lotro has similar fights! Too bad the server crashed when there were 120 people fighting each other... :)

I've been part of a few large keep battles of late, and they have been amazing. My only gripe is that as an Archmage, I want to be healing everyone, but I can only see my warband. Trying to spot heal people in other warbands was tough, but it was a blast to be able to rex up players as I found them and get them back ti fighting the good fight.

I had an awesome experience on Friday night where 8 players in a T2 keep held off around 22 Destruction players. Yes, we used the keep Lord and Champions to great effect, and even though several people died each assault, I kept rezzing and healing. Being able to take a player out of commission and get them back in action while insanity is all around you is more fun than I had imagined. Being able to experience everything with a few guildmates was even better.

Yeah, they're awesome, Our guild took a keep and about 5 minutes later the place was crowded with destruction guys, we managed to hold them off for about 2 hours, and then they had to many people.. My guess would be about 120 destros and 50 order guys.

3 days ago we had a similar fight with less players 75-100 maybe, but now the server is getting emptyer and emptyer, so if they don't find a way to get it full again, I'll be leaving soon.

I thought the mass keep RVR was the worst thing about the PVP :

All it comes down to is a mass of two sides with a gap in the middle constantly going back and forth. Theres a gap in the middle because melee are totally useless and get owned in seconds so basically RVR is just about ranged. It's never anything else and whoever has the most people wins because PVP in WAR has no tactics to it.

Geeez.....you are soooo far off. You're about 180 degrees from the truth. That "gap" is in constant flux and moves with the tide of war...thanks in large part due to tactics. That "gap" will typically move when a group of ORGANIZED melee-ers rush forward to push it and have backup to help. Then the line will re-settle and it happens all over again. Just about every conflict you look at will have a "no man's land". Should a virtual represenation of that be any different?

O yea! my guild on Phoneix server had 2 full warbands by our selves with at lest 3 other warbands from other destruciton guilds fighting a 4 warband strong Order offensive in Praag.

As for lag/chugging, I had little b/c my computer is junk, but my wife's computer is new and there was no lag or chop with 100-200 players going at it non stop on the screen.

It was not instanced, it was open rvr fighting for a Keep.

We kept our Keep despite a admiralbe attempt of the Order, *hint* bring at least 2 more warbands next time!

I have a strong computer (radeon 4850, C2D 7200, 4 Go of RAM), a 8 MB connection, and if more than 70 players are in the same place, it's unplayable.

Honestly, i could have coped with weak PvE and lvling trough scenario if RvR hads been good. But it's just not possible.

    My addiction History:
    >> EQ1 2000-2004 - Shaman/Bard/Wizard/Monk - nolife raid-whore
    >> WoW 2004-2009 + Cataclysm for 2 months - hardcore casual
    >> Current status : done with MMO, too old for that crap.

are you playing Warhammer? I have a 2 year old dual core cpu, 2 gig of ram and a 8800 gt 512 video card  , and yes I play on fastest frame rate but the game is never unplayable or any way near that. I play on Phoenix Throne server.

The game runs good for me on fastest frame rates, even in large battles

Firstly, you have an ATI card and a slow hard drive. Your computer is only as strong as its weakest link, go SATA :)

There's nothing with ATI, and how do you know he has a slow hard drive?
