Umm, the game is coming out on Nov. 27th, I beleive. Did you even read the site?

    tcos.com/sbforum/viewtopic.php

DFO will still be in beta perhaps, and Mortal does not have a release date, and is really far off.

  • Loke666Loke666 Member EpicPosts: 21,441

Actually, Spellborn have been quite quiet on the hype thing, compare it with WAR or AOC before release, fewer threads and fanbois here.

The combat system is very intresting and not something we seen before, the graphics is really good and the music in it excellent.

Doesn't mean that the game still won't suck but it isn't something we seen before so it will at least be very intresting to try. Spellborn is the first fantasy game in a long time that is not a Wow/EQ clone, that's one of the reason people are looking forward to try it. It is very possible that DF or mortal online will be better, but it is also possible that they won't, Spellborn is releasing soon now, that's the reason you hear more about it than mortal online.

I for one will try it.

its a game that is coming out, therefore somebody must surely try to overhype it or it wouldnt be an upcoming mmorpg. why give a rats ass about ANY game slated for release? it is all worthless until it is sitting in your hands. whats more NOT hyping games might be the solution to this b/s EQ clone-age. if nobody breathes a word about any upcoming games the wow-mo's will not go and look at said other games and try to get the devs to dumb down the games and make them more playable for the masses (-m). instead they will be content to just hype aion and darkfall (since that seems to be what they have latched onto now that AOC and WAR are confirmed failures).

TCoS has the most incredible combat system of any MMO.  The 100% skill based combat, mixed with the sigil system in the skills for ability customization, the opener/closer combo system, and the PeP enhancements make fighting in this game a blast.  The combat alone makes it worth playing, before mentioning the PvP/PvE system.

  • ScriarScriar Member Posts: 772

For one this game has no hype, which is a good thing, mmos with lots of hype never reach their expectations. Or people get into their head the game will be something that it was never meant to be.

As for this games main features:

    - Skill based fps combat

    - Gear is not the focus of the game. The majority of the gear is for looks, custimisation therefore is a large feature of this game. There are sigils but they will only have minor changes in stats, or purely cosmetic changes like coloured trails for your weapons.

    - No raiding, a focus on small group content instead.

    - Apparently it is quite big with the RP crowd

    - Good AI

    - PeP which is a sort of buff system.

    - All classes are hybrids

Those are the main ones for release. After release they have mentioned mounted combat both flying and ground (theres no mounts at the moment because they want to do them right), and RvR like PvP. Although this is post release and has only been mentioned as something they would like to add but is not set in stone.

As for your question about why people would want to play this over Darkfall or Mortal is simple. Both of those games are complete different playerbases to this one. Some of us whom are following this game are interested it those games as well, but we are the minority. I assure you the vast majority that would play a game like Darkfall and Mortal are not the same as the vast majority who would play Spellborn.

I'm interested in TCoS generally because:

    1. Within Temptation

    2. There are some really unique features

    3. Missing of really valuable modern MMO on the market

How on earth can a game have a '100% skill based combat', when we KNOW that sigils will influence your character's abilities in said combat?

This is the kind of confusing nonsence that is haunting this game... noone is even sure of what is is about, yet a hardcore seems to be blindly excited by it all...

Once TCoS nails it's true colours to the pole and states clearly what it is, what design choices it has taken, and what I can expect from playing it, I will start to get excited again. At the momet, people are just guessing and making silly statements like the one above.

At this time, it is just looking like yet another solo zerg quest grind ez mode casual-lite MMO arcade game to me... and we have seen how the last few of those have turned out right?

As time slips by, and I fail to be given any real info about this game, my interest just wanes and wanes.

what hype? I must have missed it. yeah, "Mortal Online" and "Darkfall". Got the message.

TCoS seems like the same ol run of the mill MMO thats on todays shelf like WoW or Warhammer ... what makes this game good

It has real real time combat unlike the total failure AOC and has demonstrated this, unlike the titles you advertised.

    @vesavius

Whats so difficult? in cs you have to aim and you have guns that do the damage. Now you can make the gun deal some more damage you still have to aim yourself.

While I agree DFO / Mortal would both blow the covers of this game hey- they are both just that, wet dreams by all us pvpers/sandboxers-pvers looking for a deep experience

DFO keeps stringing us pks along, teasing us with Beta this and that. Is it vapor? I pray its not. But its not here and no one is even in beta or closed alpha for it I know of

And Mortal, while totally off da hook awesome, has no ingame screens that I've seen.

Spellborn on the other hand, while a lot less full featured then the others, at least looks really cool and I think the Open pvp server might be fun.

Guess Im not helping spellborn's case much here but what I'm saying at least its close to coming out and its not teasing me like DFO has been doing for YEARS

edit- things Spellborn should do fairly well- realtime combat + great character customization + emphasis on player skill + Open FFA PVP server + PeP loss upon death + resource mine pvp + no stats on Gear! Don't knock the game player try it out

sigils will be totally minor. This game wont have raiding in any case.

Near 100% player skill. You dodge attacks in realtime. No dice rolls for anything. You miss; you missed because they moved not the roll of a dice. Very intense combat. What can sigils do anyway think about it? It cant increase your accuracy right? You control that. It cant give you dodging right? You control that. No matter how much damage your enemy does, if they cant hit ya then you cant be hurt

I've played MMORPGFPS games like this before and I've fought vets and lived even on newbie avatars. Cant hurt what you cant hit. Player skill > any stat if the game is built for that

There is a painful death penalty but fun. You lose PeP. PeP will grant ya bonuses and buffs and it will sting to lose it

Well, near 100% isnt totally 100%, as previously stated, but we will let that one go I guess.

Think about this a lot deeper tbough...

If sigils have NO value, and are 'totally minor', then whats your motivation in this game? Whats gonna give it any longevity?

Community? Nope, no enforced co-op play here. It's all solable. No need to depend on or help the guy next to you in this game. The craft system is ez mode solo as well. No inter-reliance here. No need to communicate or bond. No need at all.

Lore? Well... no. The average mmorpger dosent even read the text as he blows through the quests, let alone know about a game's lore beyond what he needs to basically function in the world.

Now, we KNOW TCoS has gear, called sigils, but you are telling me that gear is worthless? That it has no worthwhile impact on my character's abilities? That I will be able to fight as well nakid? What is my motivation to actually strive and win it at all?

In short, whats gonna keep me in this game past 2 weeks when the novelty of solo zerg PvP wears off? What are the long term drivers?

As it looks, I will have a solo character that is as good on day 1 as he ever will be in terms of gear, and all that is ahead of me is to solo quest grind for sigils that apparently, I am told here, are worthless?

    Yeah, this game sounds great.

Unless, of course, sigils DO have a profound impact on a character....

  • daylight01daylight01 Member Posts: 2,250

Here is part of the sticky I made at the top of this forum that says alittle about how sigils will impact your player..

For those who question the sigils. I can see why you would since it’s too easy to compare it to past experiences from other mmorpgs (generally WoW) It doesn't mean spellborn is like WoW. Some say its misinformation to say that gear doesn't matter and you can look the way you want too. This does not end with just looks its true for all parts of Spellborn. From the character's visual there class, skills and there sigils.

Customizing is the backbone of this game. You should look at sigils like how a mechanic looks at parts when building a race car. Having the best parts to make a high performance machine is great. But when it comes to winning the race it’s the skill and experience of the driver that wins the race not the car. Anyone can see the difference between a vet and a rookie driver on the track. Also add the fact that everyone will have a good machine themselves having the best car out there is not all that great.

In relation to sigils they are use to build yourself or your skills to your liking. Easier said then done when you have more then one way to enhance yourself and you can not tell what your potential enemy will do.

There are sigils that increase the number of targets it will hit to increasing its range to increased damage of said skill. Which one is better? No one can say which is best because it’s up to the person who is using said skill. What's the point of doing either of theses things if you can't hit anyone with this skill or the enemy makes it very hard for you to use it in battle. Remember there are no auto functions, nor are there any stuns...etc so no attack is a sure hit. Combined that with a poorly made skill deck and poor manual dodging skills having the highest rank sigils does nothing to help change that.

I will show you how small of a difference the sigils are between ranks.

    Level 10 to 19 - ranks 1 and 2.

    Level 20 to 29 - ranks 3 and 4.

    Level 30 to 39 - ranks 5 and 6.

    Level 40 - 49 - ranks 7 and 8.

    Level 50 - ranks 9 and 10.

This is how the ranks will go. Nothing special about it, most mmorpgs generally work in the same way. This is an example of a sigil that increases HP.

Rank 1 - Increase Maximum health by 50.

Rank 5 - Increase maximum health by 250.

Rank 10 - Increase maximum health by 500.

The rank 10 sigil looks very powerful when compare to a rank 1. Compared to a rank 5 it doesn't seem all that great. With 4 more ranks between 5 and 10 that gap is even smaller. How many people are going to be using rank 1 and 2 sigils once they past level 19? With that being said its power is still based on what the player needs/wants. Take the Blood Warrior many of there best moves involves blood links and having to hurt themselves in order to do damage to others.

So having the most HP will be something they may look into in order to get the best out of there links. But a Blood Warrior that doesn't use Blood links that often may find it less useful to load up on HP instead they may pick to use sigils to increase there melee attacks. Tricksters one of the rogue arch types may find that both types of sigils are overall useless to them and may find sigils that increase there buff durations more beneficial. With three arch types, nine sub-classes and the ability to learn the arch type skills at level 50 and the skill deck system. I see a lot of people hunting for sigils but unlike other mmorpgs, players will hunt for sigils as a way to increase there options of customizing your class. Not just so they can be competitive. If your content with you class and your skill deck. Once you have the sigils you want you don’t have to hunt for anymore.
