I wouldn't say the combat system has been dumbed down. You now get penalized for "preloading" combos (with fancy red/green indicators telling you which of the hits connected and which did not), you can't spam the double tap backwards dodge to become invincible anymore, damage is reduced across the board to make fights go on longer, and a healing reduction debuff mechanic has been added into the mix. The only thing that's been made less complex is the length of combos.
removing preloading is good, I was thrilled when they annouced that though it hit test in july I belive, it will be a massive change to balance once again which isn't at all ideal, having the balance of power and the best way to play your class change dramatically each patch is not a good thing.
However I'm not saying that the combat changes are bad I'm saying that they are dramatically reducing the thing that makes the game unique, reduceing the length of combos, making it so some combos now are just one button, weather this makes the game better or worse is compeltly subjective however the people left in game are the ones that loved the combat system how it was so this could cost them subs but is unlikely to gain them subs, I find that a risky change.

I agree 100%, very risky indeed. I won't be able to try for myself until this weekend, but the prospect of having to relearn an effective strategy isn't something I'm looking forward to. I had to do that far to many times in SWG, I hope they don't follow that path.

The game still isn't ready for release imo, this patch has some nice changes though I don't feel it deserves a new version number, it's patch 2.5 at best, but still the main problem from launch hasn't been addressed in anyway, once you hit 80 the game is rubbish, I enjoyed it plenty till 80 yet within a week was completly fed up with it and it's not really an alt friendly game. The main changes for this patch are murderer system..meh, can't see it changeing much at all really, won't reduce ganking much if at all. Whats really amusing is this line in the patch notes "Resurrection will now only be possible on the closest resurrection spot. . " makes griefing much easier than it was prior to the patch, that one line is far more significant than any murder system. now you will rez right next to the people ganking at the rez point. Updates to Main cistern, nice and changeing it to an instance was something they should have done months ago, but I can't understand at all why they have focused on revamping the low and mid level dungeons since launch when it was the upper end of the game with content issues. Crafting changes, nice, hard not to be an improvement though because patch 2 basically made crafting useless. New armor sets are very welcome though. Combat changes hmm, once again an absolutly massive swing in balance, dumbing down of the combo system, I find this a risky change, we constantly see the people left saying how wonderful the combat system is so this seems to be a change to cater to people who left rather than the people still there, dangerous to risk pissing off the few people you have left. I'm not sure if the combat changes and murder system are going to make the game better than it was prepatch but alot more needs doing before they give out the free trial if they want people to stay. Other than the useual wave of optimism that hits for a couple of days after the patch I see this patch losing more people than it gains. Next patch has a new zone though so that should be a huge positive.
Shield of the risen doesn't wear off till you move away from res pads now so you can see who's around and just port out if need be. Or wait for more resses and force your way out as a group. At least that's what was happening on test live.
changing shield of the risen so it doesn't time out when standing at the rez pad does not fix the issue at all, being able to port hasn't changed at all and relys on you haveing it availible. They have spent months hyping up their system to reduce ganking and then make a change at the same time that makes ganking and griefing much easier, bizzare.
so the level 62 enters kesh, gets ganked, before they could chose to rez away from the zone point, now they will be placed a few yards away where the ganking group can kill them again and again, Personally I'm for free pvp so don't have an issue with this however they are trying to stop ganking, have spent months implementing a system to lower ganking yet ruin their own plan completly with an ill thought out silly change.

The harsher the better IMO, I know I'm in the minority with this opinion. The best PVP games have always had harsh environments, again IMO. Harshness goes along with the very idea of ffa PVP. If you don't want that type of pvp there's always PVE servers, you can still PVP but it's in controlled consentual environments.
Ganking is a big part of FFA PVP, it's the threat of attack that keeps you on your toes. These issues aren't really issues (flaws) ffa design intends these things to occur. That's why there are other forms of pvp out there, WAR. If you don't like the design behind ffa pvp you're not going to like AOC very much.

This from the guy that joined on the 16th and has 60 some odd posts all that utterly glorify this game? And he should give it up already? I mean if you look at the depth and breadth of this patch, one could call into question all these people posting that game was 10/10 pre patch. There are some MAJOR system changes, extensive class reworking and the patch notes are HUGE! I mean that doesnt strike me as something that a game that was already 10/10 would require, does it anyone else?

If funcom merges the servers, add more endgame content, make the pvp more meaningful ill come back I've made that clear multiple times. I'm not one of the failcom, funcom can't wait to see the game fail crowd, I am someone who thinks funcom have made so many fatal errors that it's going to be very difficult to fix it though, if they do fix it and make it the best pvp mmo they will get both my money and my praise. Untill then I'll continue to call it how I see it.
My posts are fair, they are also mostly negative because that is what the game has deserved up to this point, they are negative in a fair way though and praise when its due, in this thread alone I've given multiple compliments about the new crafting armors and about instanceing main cistern.
Why don't you try and argue against my points instead of bringing up my post history? especially as your posting history will show you not to have an once of objectivity. I didn't even say the changes were bad just that I think it's risky changing the thing that is highly regarded by their current player base, the people in this forum saying aoc is wonderful including you point to 2 main things, 1) the graphics, 2) the combat system. Todays patch is a massive change to one of the things you think is so good about the game and the changes they are making pull them closer to all the other mmo's making them less unique and watering down the system that the current playerbase loves so much. I can't see how anyone can think that is anything other than risky.
For some people these changes will make the game worse, for some people these changes will make the game better but I can't help but think that the current player base has alot of people who will fall in the former camp and the ones that fall in the later camp arnt playing anymore.

That's exactly how I feel, but the murder system that they have put so much time into is meant to be the oposite of that, it's meant to lower ganking and griefing, I think it's completly bizzare to spend all this time developing a system to do that and then completly devalue it with a change like this. It's not that I think this change is bad, I think it's just completly oposite to what they are seemingly out to acheive.
I personally love harsh pvp environments, personally I like death to matter more like shadowbanes drop everything in your bags and carried cash system, I want games to encourage people to protect each other to make people anxious and nervous and keep people on their toes. That isn't aoc though unfortunatly and the development of the murder system shows that. They need to make up their mind and go one way or the other.

Yeah I see your point now, though I do like the prospect of being able to hunt down murderers, now all what they need is a bounty system like EVE and SWG has. I remember back in the day in uo, going after lowbie killers with whole towns, just to get a single item back for a player, great times!.

I agree about the murderer thing. They need to expand the world to about 8 times its current size and then add a dynamic faction system, similar to the one the original EQ had in place. I enjoyed nothing more than being max level and KOS in every human area and hanging out with OGRES and stuff as a human wizard. That was awesome... Choosing ones destiny would definately have me taking a seocnd look...

Happy to hear that you contemplate on having a second look. I am still at work. Can't wait to get back home to log on and play this beast of an patch. Apparently every works great. Some of the first gankers/murderers have started to feel the wrath of the guards. lol

removing preloading is good, I was thrilled when they annouced that though it hit test in july I belive, it will be a massive change to balance once again which isn't at all ideal, having the balance of power and the best way to play your class change dramatically each patch is not a good thing.
Dude give it up alright.Look on your posting history. When you don't have one positive thing to say over months it is very clear that you opinions are just negativity for the sake of negativity.

Some people are like slinkies, they dont really have a purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Happy to hear that you contemplate on having a second look. I am still at work. Can't wait to get back home to log on and play this beast of an patch. Apparently every works great. Some of the first gankers/murderers have started to feel the wrath of the guards. lol
