I come from a Guild Wars background.
I love structured PVP, GVG and the ranking system which allow me to fight my peers. With a somewhat balanced system.
Now should I buy WAR or not ?
Whay will appeal in WAR to someone like me, and what will not ?

I'd wait mate. It's a good game at present, but it is taking a lot of flack for being grind heavy, and having the populations of servers spread thin. Give it a few month for server dencity and contect patches. A solid buy soon says I.
I fear if you buy it now, you'll lose interest fast.
Clever things.
You might really like the scenariios. Large group vs group fights where you are matched up within a few minutes.
You might not like the general leveling up with the pve but you can level up with scenarios if you'd like.
There is also RvR fighting which you might also like.
Quite frankly I think a GW player would like Warhammer.

Ugh, stay away from WAR if you enjoy GW's PvP, small-scale PvP that you enjoy is horribly unbalanced in WAR.
I'm not sure why he said it's grind heavy as I have characters who never saw one second of PvE grinding as you can do nothing but open RvR or RvR scenario's to level up instead. If you like RvR than i would say this game is more than ready for you to jump in, if you looking for solo PvP than not so much.

I don't think it's unbalanced at all. If anything I think people don't know how to play their class coupled with the fact that they go off and "do their own thing".
I kept hearing how destruction was always winning over order. Until I found myself in some RvR and scenarios where order won. Not all the time as their were times that Destruction seemed far more organized.
What I think is that players are playing a 1v1 pvp game when this is NOT a 1v1 pvp game.

Sift through all the posts, no need to rush into buying/not buying. Discount any posts that openly flame it as trash, likewise, discount any that are overhyped up fanbois. Try to find the middle reason and see what they say good/bad. Then figure out if the cumulative good is worth your time. Its a good game, thats about it as far as I found. I did like Guild Wars better for pvp play when I tried it. This game is fun for 3 weeks, then it slows down quite a bit.
For me it wasnt long term. My biggest problem, aside from some bugginess, was the low population server the game recommends you pick. By the time I raised my character up, I wasnt gonna restart on a new server and see low content again. All that slow running from one zone to another was too much, takes forever. The PQs were a good idea when I saw them, but they got emptier and emptier as you went on. Theres a few of them in every zone so unless you get on a good population server, you might only be able to solo the first two levels of a PQ. Then run away and wait for the reset. ZZZ.
Which brings me to, if you DO try the game do not listen to what people say about a 'medium' server. Pick a High jammed packed one or you will be bored. On a high one, you are guaranteed that people will be on usually during anytime of the day, so no need to wait til nighttime to do something. If you pick a Medium one, you are gonna have some good lulls in your gametime.
Also might want to try a dedicated PvP server there. Even though people can kill you anywhere anytime almost, since theres not wall to wall people, the chance someone griefing and ganking you are few and far between. But the RvR fights or scenarios will be way more common than the casual servers.
Average wait time on a regular server for a scenario: 45 mins- 1hour. Average time on a PvP server: As soon as you get done one Scenario, you can go right back in.
"TO MICHAEL!"
Classes are unique and group v. group pvp is balanced if you have a balanced group.
1v1 is rock/paper/scissors.
Playing solo isn't nearly as fun as playing with guildies/a group.
Don't know how it compares to GW but I certainly find it fun.
Just Yes.
My family loves this game.
If you're unsure, wait. The most glaring issues facing the game currently are the population being spread far to thin over far to many servers, and some (major or minor, depending on who to talk to) class balance issues. All (or a vast majority) of them are going to be tentatively fixed in the December patch, so that's when I'd recommend you to join up.
As a former GW player (but more of a DAoC'er at heart PvP-wise) - I'm having a blast. And I agree with a few of the previous posters, you'll probably adore scenarios, but RvR is even better than they are
And ignore ScamMan, he's a troll.
It won't hurt to wait for a free trial.
This is hard for me since i hate the game but I will try and give a neutral point of view.
You will like if:
* You dont like PvE because its the PvE is probably the worst I have seen
* PvP with not a heavy penalty. You can fight away, die and come back in seconds.
* Enjoy being in large guilds with TS / Vent and being co-ordinated
* dont mind if the graphics isn't as good as other games.
* Enjoy casual PvP gameplay
You WONT like if:
* You want hard core PvP with real meaning and death penalties.
* Like to play solo or enjoy PvE
* Dont have time to join a big guild and be part of the RvR
* If you are a pixel whore like me and want great graphics.
* Want PvP combat that requires more skill than just smashing buttons.
I hope this sums up both sides. I for one dont have time to join a big guild and sit around waiting for players to get involved and the PvP was a little vanilla for me as I want something a bit more complicated. I know loads of people who have quit but I know some that love it.
He's got it right. Also the game has no soul, but neither does GW
Yeah ScamMan is a troll and hateboi, ignore him.
For an advice, I'd wait for 1.1 patch because there are huge class balance issues at the moment. If you want to roll a Bright Wizard or Ironbreaker you can just ignore those issues though.

Ted Treffon: No, I don't represent that either.
Osbourne Cox: You are part of a league of morons. Oh, yes. You see you're one of the morons I've been fighting my whole life. But guess what. Today, I win.
don't get why people diss the graphics when everythings cranked up high the game is very pretty only games that are better imo are AoC and LoTR
Commenting on some of the points made by others here previously. Level 35/RR 35 Rune Priest.
Grinding - the leveling itself is far from a grind. You can purely level from PvP if you like, play Order side for very fast queue times. Ideally a blend of both is best.
PvE - from what I've seen, it is not made to be extremely challenging - more there for a PvP break. I enjoy that most quests hubs give quests nearby, and then you are pointed to the next hub. Multiple hubs in every zone. Most can be done solo. I really liked Mount Gunbad, the large mid-20's dungeon, and have been in Bastion Stair a couple times at this point. I skipped Sewers the mid-teens dungeon. There are at least 2-3 more dungeons beyond Bastion Stair at this point. If you are an explorer, there are about 10 hidden things in every zone, such as Hero mobs, which sometimes you need to figure out how to access (such as by working pipes/gears with multiple players).
Server Pop - I agree they need to merge some servers. However, on a (last I checked) medium pop server right now (Ulthuan), RvR is a daily event. Although sometimes it can result in flag-flipping, as both sides tend to be careful not to feed free kills at times which can help turn a zone. That can get dull. There have been many nights of massive RvR battles at the same time - just depends on how it works out. I'm waiting to see about the free transfer announcement this week or next, to see how it will affect server populations. I think the higher population server the better for this game.
Balance - research your class carefully before selecting. Some are very weak, such as Shadow Warrior and Squig Herder. A couple are more used right now as a gimmick class - although that gimmick (magnet/rift) is useful in RvR. Most or all of the rest are very well done. I hope they do some tweaking on the four classes I mentioned. Also - two more new classes are coming out in December, so if you want to play one of those, you may want to get a feel for the game a couple weeks prior then you can breeze through leveling on the new character there.
Other - Game support sucks at an individual level. CSR's don't seem to be able to fix in-game issues such as a loot problem. Their customer service can take quite some time to reply by Email. Have not been pleased with that aspect of things. Although at the macro level they seem to be listening to the fanbase and making requested changes rapidly when it comes to gameplay itself, so that part is positive.
Hope the info helps.
Lol mate you found the very worst site on the whole wide web to post this question on...
Goto metacritics.com and read the reviews there.
My personal opinion is.. maybe.
If in "structured PVP" that you're looking for "structured" is more important than "PvP" then nope, WAR is not for you. On the other hand if it is "PvP" that is paramount then yes, WAR is for you because it is the best PvP mmo out there. In addition WAR is "structured" in the sense that its PvP does have a purpose, and a very strong global one. Additionally it is "structured" in that group play and synergies are very important. On the other hand it is not "structured" in terms of ladders and such. Scenarios might be matched in numbers but Open RvR is anything goes.
And no, PvE doesn't suck. In fact it is great. It is just something trolls around here like to toss about because they heard this is a PvP game so PvE must automatically suck in their mind.
OP:
If you wait to somewhere in december the first real patch will be released (1,1).
With balance changes (my #1 priority) and other stuff.
I am chilling with this game untill that patch comes out and so are many others

And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "
Ignore popinjay for example, he is a troll. I'm going to sleep now so I won't bother with all the untruths he tried to slip in there. Someone else probably will.
Just one thing - do not roll on a "PvP" server - he is trying to trick you. If you value well matched fights then Open server definitely isn't for you. (it is "Open" actually and not "PvP" because all servers are "PvP", both Core and Open ones - it is just some more of his devious trickery).
Core servers have mechanics that ensure all the RvR fights are more-or-less matched to relative power levels of players. Open servers do not have many of these safeguards and are there for players who like "to be surprised" (gank or be ganked). Most GW fans playing on Open server will undoubtedly think much less of the game than if they started on Core. Just ignore that man.
And this 45-60 min wait time on a med pop server is just laughable. I play on a low-pop server (Order ofc) and I never wait more than 15 min for a scenario. And oh yeah, rolling Order is highly recommended no matter where you go.
