When is Origins?

WolfenprideWolfenpride Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,988

Warhammer failed to bring back the spirit of RvR, it can only be found in DAoC to this day.

When is origins? I need it now, badly..like heroin..

Not sure. Maybe you can go take a plane ride to Oslo and go right into Mythic offices and ask them point blank what the F is going on. 'Cause they ain't sheading much light on the subject.

Seriously though, Mythic probably moved a lot of their team over to concentrate on WAR and put DAoC and Origins on the back burner for now. Maybe see an announcement after thanksgiving.

I think you're a tad confused there my friend.  Mythic is based out of Fairfax VA.  I think you're thinking of FunCom who might be out of Oslo but it's not Mythic.

Just wanted to clear that up for you.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Mythic  acts like they  never heard of ORIGINS.They fear they might pull players away from WAR into what they feel is a dead end game...DAOC.

No problem, been reading the anti-conan forums and have funcom on the brain for some reason.

No problem.  I get confused sometimes too but I just give them this for my excuse

Wait, I live like 10 minutes away from Fairfax, im in Sterling VA

Im about to march right over there and show them just how badly I need origins right about now

Just as soon as I get their office address..

I don't think it will ever come. They want all the attention on Warhammer Online. However the game I feel didn't deliver. It's more like WoW then Dark Age of Camelot in a many ways. That's not a knock on WoW as it's a well done game however the elements they took from it don't mesh well with the elements they took from Dark Age of Camelot.

I heard the number of developers on DAoC at the moment could be counted on one hand. That's just beyond depressing to be honest.

Hey you wanna get the old "torch n' pitchfork" gang together and make a march to Fairfax?  It'll take me a few hours to drive down there so I'll need a week notice so I can plan everything out.

Last thing I read on VN was they supposedly said it was on indefinite hold.  Now I personally never saw any Mythic employee say this in "text".  Someone responded with that in a "when will origins.." thread on VN in the Origins server forum.

Personally I think they had such negative reaction to the FAQ they released.. that they decided it would take to much in resources to actually give an Origins server.

I was pretty excited and going to play there...

But then they were going to keep the current RA syste, current archery system.  Dick around with CC.. drop Theurgs entirely from albion... and give midgard Valkrye's... um ya (so that all 3 realms had the same amount of classes).

Oh then there weren't going to be any battle grounds.. and some system so level 20's could rvr but not be griefed... um .. again.. um ok.

What I wanted and it seemed the vast majority at least on VN.. was just how the game "had been" not that messed up scenario described in the FAQ.

I mainly thought it was odd since they were keeping everything that drove people away and posting it into old frontiers and thinking it would work.

Then when people reacted that was pretty much that.

EA is lying.  UO peaked at 250k and the use of "hundreds of thousands" even at that time would be misleading.  It is like saying a "few" when you have two.

At best, UO current subscriber amount is 75,000.  It has likely declined along with DAOC.

Origins is not on hold, at least they have not said so.  The target date was stopped and they are continuing to do internal testing and design.  While not positive, I have a feeling that with EA cutting staff and WAR coming out, the decision was to cannabalize DAOC resources for WAR leading up to and after launch.  Once WAR has stablized out (they are still adding content like classes) then work will go back to DAOC.

I have to say that part of the problem is lack of information.  I think this is EA's policy.  Notice that Sanya and then Richard left.  After that, pretty much nothing has been communicated.

This whole EA thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  Early on when Mythic annouced that EA was buying them out I didn't like the idea one bit.  I warmed up a bit figuring that EA's backing money wise would do wonders for WAR.  This was when I didn't know exactly what they'd do design wise regarding WAR.  Now that I know where it went and the current financial state of EA I sort of wish that EA never acquired them.

I think I've lost interest in MMOs all together.  I just don't like where the genre is going and the hope is fleeting at best.

I remember Origin saying that EA buying them wont change a thing...and we all know how that worked out.

I expect Mythic to be closed and assets moved to Bioware within a year.

I'm not sure that last video proves much....  The guy that posted it was from Gareth (classic server)  and I don't think there's any servers that allow you to test what "origins" claims it will have.  This movie, to me at least looks like it was done when the old fronteers were still in effect.

That video actually seems convincing...as the map was not in the game when the New Frontiers 'expansion' was added to the game.

Also, that character has the updated character model that was added to the game circa Catacombs, which was, again, after the removal of the old frontier..

Heres another movie, players can get in to the old fronteers on the test server, dont know how though..

You can see some changes in OF anyway.          media.putfile.com/olf-frontiers-hib-and-alb
