I can fully understand that a lot of them are pissed and dissapointed. They are adicted to the game much as a lot of us was back in the day. They now face the same situation as we did. The game is going to be taken away from them.

To me its just the final and absolute proof that the NGE was the GREATEST mistake in MMO history and nothing good ever came out of it. In the end we all lost.

Now our faith is in the hand of Bioware and their devs and producers. Lets just hope they wont make the same mistakes....

The playerbase is having heartburn over seeing SWG's sunset on the not-to-far-off TOR horizon and the handful of fanbois are trying to rally the troops - even attacking any and all who read the handwriting on the wall.

    "I Want to Believe"

    http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?topic_id=775398

I do enjoy this classic statement - "Games not dead, everyones just so spread across the servers it makes the game look dead." LOL!  Like Duh - all those servers used to be bristling with players. That can join the list of other excuses for why there are so few players to be found.....players are anon, players are in space, etc. The game is considered 'dead' by most since it has less than 20k players, dead servers and is running on Station Pass Life Support, but as long as it is on Life Support with no plug pulling date, the fanbois can cry -

     "It's Alive!"

"There are more players than ever, more joining everyday!"

"My server <insert any server name here> has tons of players!"

    "Its not the NGE anymore!"

Sure, as the servers merge, the game may seem more populated when in truth it is not. There wouldn't be free transfers sand the inevitable mergers if that were true. Putting out group intensive content and freebie vet trials without the low population issues being resolved will end up as it alsways done - a very low vet and new player retention rate. Is there really any question what will become of SWG if TOR is even remotely good?

The saddest thing for the NGE'ers is that once it's gone, it's gone.  No one is going to waste time on the NGE-MU.  No one will care about it's loss to bother to want it continued.

Of course, most of the NGE players are like us, they don't like the game, they prefer the old game but keep playing it because it's their only Star Wars option, the only sci fi game with a ground and space game, etc.

All those guys are gone soon as Bioware releases, which is why there is no hope for the NGE post release.  The true hardcore "The NGE is the best SWG ever" crowd is a tiny number, probably numbering at most hundreds.

I am here , there was a small problem with my account.

Now Just because Smed mentions the word Sunset , that is not the Official Press release informing the players and the gaming community at large that the NGE if SWG is sunsetting.

At that promised time I will be honored to don my purple tux  and deliver the Eulogy for the worse mistake ever made in MMO history.

It's Jester Brand with a new secret ingredient: fun. Now let's go to our blind taste test.

*Guy tied up and gagged at a computer*

Uh oh! He doesn't look very happy. He's been playing the NGE!

    *Caption: Oh no!*

*Moves to a playing a game smiling*

But with new Jester/Bioware brand, we get a grin again and again!

I still chuckle at the word "sunset" everytime I see it, it's such a GEEK word.

You see this is the part that none seem able to grasp. It is NOT a mistake,it is a design in the game that SOE wanted. What gets me miffed is so many of the players seem to think it is THERE game to design, well it is NOT.Just like EVERY single game out there, the developer designs it and you get to decide if you want to play it.

The fact is that if the game started out in the NGE phase and never changed, not ONE player would care or even know the difference.

You also can not use the analogy that you were set in your ways and promised this or whatever, because like i said,if it started this way,you ALL would have still played it from day 1.

The MISTAKE is that players can not accept change or adjust,so now they got no game to play ..lol..so how did the bitching and whining fair you?The players could have just had a mature mind set and decided "Hey think of it as a brand new game and a new challenge",nope they took the cry baby approach and got what they deserved.

If anyone thinks Bio Ware can match anything SOE does, they are RFLMAO ,badly mistaken.SOE made millions because they started the pay to play idea with EQ,others followed, they made millions from the console because EVERYONE loved SOE games.FFXI the greatest series ever was saved by SOE and the playstation,i remember thousands playing SOCOM online [war game],the list never ends,SOE is the godfather ,the others are followers and copy cats.

IMO the next big/good/complete MMORPG will either come from Square Enix OR SOE,then again we will see developers following or copying there ideas.

I agree. I just will add that if SWG advertised and sold the game the way it is now, I NEVER would have been interested in the game to begin with. It was the original advertised elements of the game that attracted me, and I am sure quite a few others, in the first place. I bought SWG over five years ago for the immersive, complex and unique game experience offered. If this game was released new as it is now, with all the bugs and limited content, it would be in just as bad of shape as it is now after the first free month.

The game launched in June 2003 with this "content"

    Imperial themepark

    Rebel Themepark

    Jabba's Themepark

There is no way you can equate the game launch content to todays content, The launch game was riddled with bugs, game stopping bugs (like no way for commando's to gain XP with heavy weapons for instance).

How easy would it have been to eradicate those bug though if they hadn't been working on 2 complete overhauls of the games core?

Like.... mission lairs spawning in houses, harvs etc, BH npc marks spawning in trees, in water and off the edges of the map.... I guess those are fixed though right?

    No?

    I didn't think so.

...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.

  • Those bugs are still there and more.  The original and CU combat systems didn't suffer from continual special misfire like this POS.

A heal or an attack special fails with the cooldown firing once a fight from my testing yesterday.  The combat system is still completely broken.

Just like they are still riddled with bugs today? And while we are on the subject... content? Oh yes... content.. like collections! Heaven forbid we not go without those! No way... devs should always hold our hand down a linear path and force classes on us, kill freedom..

All the directed content in the world will not change the fact that the current core game is not fun.  The horrible core game makes any added content worthless.  The game that launched was bugged as hell, lacked content, yet had potential.  The current game is bugged as hell and lacks potential.  That is the main reason the player population is as anemic as it currently is.  SWG is currently a bad game, and the fact that it isn't fun to play is the reason it has such a small playerbase.  If it wasn't for the Star Wars IP, the game wouldn't have anywhere near the number of players it currently does.

So what's the betting odds of the Battle of Hoth is SWG's Last Hurrah?  And the odds that it will be released on time and in a playable state?

    And that is why...

Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

Given that their rate of publishes is down to 3 a year and 6 months between them not being unheard of, odds are decent, especially given that SWTOR could be out sometime next year.

You mean on the official forums? Yeah.. they are becuase they are still playing. Pretty funny actually.

The people on SWG forums are still involved  and do have a say.   The people that left the game and are still obsessive are the idiots.     Why cant you let it go?

    1. What proof do you have about the players still having a say? Not being facetious, just wanting to know what I may have missed.

    2. Many people didn't "leave" the game as you put it. Try telling a Ranger that they left the game.

Oh the irony... the feeling of "oh man its over for this game" you can just see coming right of his words.
Oh wait... i still need to get the cheese and crackers.. pardon me.. and enjoy this:
SWG Forums (Players response to the interview)
They don't look too happy. Hmm...
Hey JestorRodo! Where are you man? I think its time you ironed out that suit of yours and do another one of your webcasts.
    In any case. Thoughts? Anyone?

I am here , there was a small problem with my account.

Now Just because Smed mentions the word Sunset , that is not the Official Press release informing the players and the gaming community at large that the NGE if SWG is sunsetting.

At that promised time I will be honored to don my purple tux  and deliver the Eulogy for the worse mistake ever made in MMO history.

What happened to your promise to do your Rodo Report without makeup or mask if a shutdown date was not announced by the end of ... what was it, August?

So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist.

Your troll baiting me J!  I did not do it just to tick off fanbois... Knowing that my 22 months of Roleplaying was complete my real plan was to take you to that level and totally disappoint - just like the NGE.

But there is a payoff as my new cosplay does feature me without whiteface makeup or a mask - the women are telling me I am a hottie - check out the myspace profile link below and there you will see that I am pleasant to look at.

Once again thanks for baiting me J , You are a master at it.
