After suffering through the dissapointment that was Hellgate, I'm afraid to touch any game this guy is a part of. Hopefully they are keeping him on a short leash.

hey look who's making the game cryptic makers of coh which was a decent game to me and surely theyve seen most of the flaws from coh and fixed them and more so i dont think one person could ruin this game go champions !
Dealing with Bill is easy, just don't believe anything he says. Jack says that Bill will be working with him. That worries me more than anything. Bill Roper is a con artist whose worst effect on this game will be the resources that are diverted so he can travel all over the world marketing. He's a mouthpiece, nothing more, nothing less, but it does not speak well of Cryptic that they've lavished him with such a high profile position so soon after the con game that was Hellgate: London.

"People love groups. Its a fallacy that people want to play solo all the time." - Scott Hartsman, Executive Producer, Rift
Rumours that Brad McQuaid was seen loitering around in the carpark have gone unfounded
Big disappointment
1. Bill Roper is the person that turned potentially awesome HGL into galactic train wreck. He failed at every single point possible. I really dont see how that man can contribute , except if they always do exact the opposite of what he says.
2. His joining Mythic, means Runic games will close. Which means there will not be Mythos follow up project.which is damn shame, since Mythos was the best thing that happened to online games in long long time...
All in all damn shame. And i hope Champions Online will not suffer to much
im fairly sure hes nothing to do with runic, thats schaeffer/baldtrees new company
bill roper stayed on at flagship as it was still going down with a few other people.
Between Jack's constant nerfing and bad game decisions in CoH/CoV this decision is par for the course. Why would you bring a proven failure on your team ?
Well, you can now scratch Champions Online off any "Games that will be worth a shit" list.
I'll reserve my opinion for when it's released, to be honest.

I agree Kurush, but it sure dse chrush about any expectation one had for the game.
what could possibly go wrong

The most interesting answer from Bill concerns his involvement with the game, as it's now beyond concept and initial design stages.
Apparently, Bill's past experience at Blizzard involved coming in during the polish and release phase of a game -- which is something he was never involved in at Flagship.

Just what I kept telling the fanbois in the Hellgate forums. Roper was in no way responsible for the success of Diablo II but he sure got the fanbois to treat him as such with his "creator of Diablo II" marketing line.

"Hero of Time! Face me!"
By the looks of it, no one else was involved in that part either.
Cryptic was sold to Atari this week.
I was starting to look forward to this game: not anymore. Ever hear of the story of King Midas, where everything he would touch turned to gold? Roper has the minus touch. Everything he touches turns to shit.

Guess you never heard of Diablo. Yeah he didn't have the success with Hellgate but he is still a very good developer of games.
Which makes him a 50/50 bet.
Unlike some of the other Diablo dev's who went on to make WoW and Guild Wars.
He's played his "I was a Diablo dev" trump card. People won't fall for that line twice.
The talented minds behind that game weren't his.

It would be a dream as long as all 3 were tied down and only alowed to give ideas....
If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

If Roper was smart, he would of saw a better investment in Mythos than Hellgate. That game right there "could" have gave him a better name. Aren't some of the guys from the Mythos staff working for cryptic now?
Well this game is done for. Next?
Tecmo Bowl.

Thanks for making me lol guys, I needed that ...and btw, that Gaute Godager of Age of Conan fame is also looking for a new job in the MMO industry if I'm not mistaken, surely there must a spot for him as well in this dream-team, and of course GOA should be their publishing partner in the EU-region :-)
I feel stupid for listening to his LIES about Hellgate, He had the gall to tell everyone how fantastic and ground breaking Hellgate London is/was when he knew FULL well that the game was going to fail.
From the makers of Diablo? Pffft I'm never going to listen to any other brain washing Nazi, if I could go back in time Terminator style and slaughter his parents then maybe both he and World of Warcraft would never exist.

Richard Garriot should be exempt from bashing. With the right team he can produce great stuff.
maybe in the 90s... by today's standards he's proven a failure in every way. He ran his game, and the company paying the bills, into the ground. And he managed to drag 2 or 3 other games down with him in the process.
