I am taking a two month vacation from work mid December to mid February just to play Darkfall non stop. I already feel the excitement of early EQ days.
Nice sig
But yea...maybe you know something we dont...thats a hell of a comittment to a december launch.
A good MMO is one with the highest population...? thats a load of bull
No, an MMO that wont shut it's doors (Hellgate, Auto Assault), or have population issues (AoC, LOTRO, Vanguard, TR) will have a million players or more.
It at least will tell me that the game must be worth playing if so many others play it.
They have been testing this game with paid betatesters for years. So they only have to do stress testing and give people a chance to test the game for free so they can say if they like it or not. So everything shows that they are pretty much ready for a launch in December.
I dont know why but everything about this game feels shaky to me.........The only way I woul ever even give this game a look is if they have a open beta for the public....If they are going to pull the "oh join such and such website for $$ and you can play our beta" then I have no interest.........I cant quite put my finger on it but I have a bad feeling about this game.

They promised everyone would get a chance to play the game for free before they had to buy it.

11 million have not been wrong so far.
LotrO doesn't have population issues... Just because an MMO has less than 1 mill subs doesn't mean it has issues. You are a stupid sheep that can only like something when others like it.
Do you really want to play the same game forever? do you want everyone to keep copying EQ?
Why can't you give MMOs that actually try to be innovative a chance?

Yet, I do NOT want the same thing. That is my issue. Darkfall "talks" innovation, but so far I have not SEEN anything to say this will be as it is.
LOTRO is a sheep game, WAR is a sheep game. If Darkfall even tries to be somewhat different and works out of the box...cool.
But, I have seen nothing to prove to me it will be what everyone says it is.

Well maybe you should stop bashing a game before it even had a chance?
It's people like you that prevent great ideas from becoming great games. You stomp innovation into the ground whenever you can, slowing down the evolution of the gaming industry.

I take full responsibility then. Because I am sick of the crud that is out there, I am fully responsible for ruining it for you.
I feel powerful.
I have one word for you...
Hype
Proof will be better. And until I REALLY see it, I can be wary thanks to the crap that HAS been released for the last 2-3 years.
But, hey if it is good, bring it on, and I will eat my words.
..maybe I missed something but didn't they only officially start closed beta testing like a month or two ago?? If they're using this short a period of test time I smell foul.
Sorry If I am about to come off as rude but how in the blue Skys of Arcadia is there something foul about this? Heres a simple breakdown of the possible outcomes of DarkFall as of right now.
Open beta Begins
You download the client (if not your adventure ends here)
2. You Play the game (for free)
You like the game and buy it a month later and reach a state of nirvana similar to that of a drug induced comma.
You dislike the game and rant on the forums about how it did not live up to the giant steaming hype train that just rolled out of town.
I dont care if the game has been in production for 10 damn years that doesn't mean you have closed beta for 3 months then suddenly go "Ok lets release get ready for Open Beta! Yippie!" I'm not saying darkfall is going to suck just that the situation is fishy considering its coming from a small unheard of developer with no background in MMOs. The last time a PC game took an obsescene amount of time to release was hmm Diakatana an FPS game it took that game what nearly 8 years to release and it was the most horrible piece of crap ever. Every copy the store I worked for at the time was returned.
Hopefully this won't be the case with Darkfall but it sounds damn fishy to have such a short closed beta. Most MMOs have a lengthy closed beta involving the actual game community but i hear so little in the way of anything from testers I mean honestly is there anyone here that is a closed beta tester for Darkfall and not some paid monkey??
They can have open beta all they want...I honestly have no wish to revisit the hellish unlawful past of MMOs been there done that. I really hope the game does decent and gives those looking for an MMO that visits the past with newer graphics has a good time because I'll be honest I think if I hear another one of them whine because X game doesn't cater to them I might go postal.
According to Aventurine the Closed beta has been going on for more than a year using "professional" (payed) beta testers.
The Closed beta phase 2, inviting people from the public is the one that has been on for a couple of months.
In either case, looking in to our Crystal ball of Ignorance and spitting out equally ignorant interpretations and hypothesis of this being fishy or not, really means squat, and has very little value.
The Game is going to have an Open Beta, and I reserve judgment till I can tangibly see and experience it when the opportunity is given, till then, I am waiting for it with anticipation.
It has been really 11 years, since a game like Ultima Online has launched, and with comparable premise, for me it has been 6 years waiting for this to happen (played Ultima for its first 5).
My only concern which I also reserve judgment for the Open beta is its approach to Combat, I am no stranger to FPS combat, but I know allot of people who are just used to an MMORPG style combat system and may not relate to Darkfall's approach, these however are old farts like myself, today's younger generations of MMORPGers may actually imbrace a Fast Paced FPS style MMORPG.
We shall see what we shall see when we get the opportunity to do so, till then any Hypotheticall Success or Doom spelling is empty words and wasted effort.

Some reason, i just can't shake the feeling this is like... oh wahts that game that failed. crap (goes to look it up)
Vangaurd!
yeah, the game promised so much, you can do this and that and this and that, but ened up looking bad just to run it. I saw the gameplay video recently and the game looked so much like EQ2 or Vangaurd for graphics. I know they said it was on low settings, but it makes me wonder why they would produce a game to excite people at low graphics.
Based on the videos they have produced, and what i have read, i expect this to fail. I could be wrong, and would love nothing more than to be proven wrong, but i go with the yatzee approach (if you know that game reviewer). Expect nothing different that what we have gotten the last 10 years and you wont be disapointed, but if a game actually does well then you will be all the happerier. But based on trends, and looking at the game, i dont see it working.
Also, did anyone else notice that the combat looked extremely simple in their gameplay preview? you would think with their "professional" beta testers they could muster at least a half decent pvp video.
Yeah I respect Darkfall developers more for not opening up their game for lots of people to test. People just use testing as a way to get an advantage over retail customers.
I think a permanent limited free trial is a good marketing tool to include with any MMOG at release though, as long as all chat and message abilities are restricted on those accounts.
I seriously dont understand the expectations. Nothing I have seen or heard sounds interesting to me at all! The graphcis in 10 years behind, a game which promises SO much and still having no big money company behind sounds like a very shady thing and the concept of hardcore PVP where people destroy the cities other players have meticiously build... this is so full of things against every trend I hardly can think how this can be anything but the niche of a nice game.

The majority of Darkfall fans don't deny it will be a niche game. We are simply saying it will be a great game for those who have been waiting for a non instanced sandbox game with good graphics and great realistic gameplay. EvE is a niche game and is very successful. I expect Darkfall to attract a similar size base.

I like the fact they haven't opened up testing to the mindless masses in order to save a couple dollars.
Paying a smaller group of testers in order to retain professionalism and actually produce results is a refreshing concept.
The masses who beta test for free only do so for self serving reasons and to gain a knowledge advantage.
