Dark Elf Fighters?

SlntasnSlntasn Member Posts: 711

My friends and I are rather looking forward to this game, but I've had some concerns about which classes we will play.

I love being the tank, so I will mainly be using axes, swords, shields, and heavy/plate armor.

My two friends that will be playing with be either an archer or mage.

They want to be darkelves, but according to the website darkelves has the least amount of strength.. As a fighter/warrior/tank this has me worried..

Will dark elves be able to be similar fighters in terms of strength, or should we consider a different race?

Thanks in advanced.

You can't really get a proper answer on that question since nobody knows.

If site says they have less strenght, that's what you have to go by. Probably not being able to do as much damage but maby better in another area etc.

There are no classes in this game.

Trammies need to stop polluting the MMORPG landscape. They already have enough games in which to emote hugs and sell garbage by the banks.

Sure... but people are still probably gonna make their own classic classes. Some will be good at ranged, some at melee and some at magic.

I don't assume you can be equally good in EVERYTHING in this game (master) since that would not only be boring but silly too.

There may not be "classes" in the game as you have to choose one but you know there will be builds and people will use them.  So in a way there really are classes its just you have more variety and more ways to make a type of character.

Yea hopefully there won't be those "master builds" everyone uploads and shares so that everyone just uses those and nothing else

OP you have a link to the info about them having least amount of strength?

i read the race description  and i didnt see anything about them having less strength, I did read that they will have a bonus to magic

As far as basic choices of which race to be it seems if you want to kill everyone go Alfar  because everyone is their enemy. If you dont want to kill alot go Dwarf,Human or Mirdain  gives you the most friends and least amount of enemies. Ork and Marahim  splits the diferance

DF is a skill based game , there are no levels , and you don't chose a class when you make a character , you are free to learn almost any skills you want  but , there ARE class's called  Prestige class's you can chose to follow , class's you see in most mmorpgs , but even if you chose to follow a class everything is still skill based you just have a slight template to follow , these class's get only a few special skills/spells related to that class, as well as having drawbacks and penalty's and restrictions , like druids cant wear metal armor and paladins give half their earnings to their church.

That being said its all about choice and anyone can be pretty much anything they want , Alfar ( dark elf if you will) can be warrior tank type characters if you play that style, sure an ork might be able to do more damage , but you will be fine.

Ahh the crux of every skill based game.  You have all the choice in the world but if your character is not based on a "build" you're considered either useless or a noob.

Ok, i dont want to sound to stupid here....but when we talk about "no classes" in Darkfall. we actually mean no classes.  Its "playerskill" that matters. If your character have a full skill set in example Archery...it wont matter if you (the player) cant aim or hit anything.

And the words tank means absolutely nothing in Darkfall. Just put on a heavy armour and you might take a few more hits then a character without armour. Thinks of "tanks" there in CoD4! Not many.

And i know i really dont know. I only take the info we have gotten and apply it on the OPs question.

I can't seem to find the quote, but it was a comparison of the different races in terms of strength. I am pretty sure it was an official announcement of some sort, since no one has really seen the game.

On the topic of classes; I never said I'd select the tank class, however, I will choose skills and equipment that would be more geared towards tanking.

My concern is whether or not the dark elf (called Alfar I guess, not sure where I got Dark Elf from, other than perhaps that they look like em) race will beable to be proficient fighters/tanks.

If it's totally player skill based, how do you determine defensive capabilities into that? Especially with the differences in armor.

I guess it's all hopefulness at this point, and we'll soon find out during beta, I just try to plan out what I'd like to do in an MMO such as this before getting too much into it :)

I am pretty sure though that they will stats, right? Like Strength, Intelligence and the like?

In that case I would expect these stats to affect, say, melee dmg - more strength, more dmg. Higher constitution, more hit points. So I think the OPs' concerns are somewhat valid, but based on the currenlty available facts not answerable.

The game isn't completely skill based, but definitely heavily skill based. As was mentioned in another thread, 4 freshly made characters (that were skillful), can theoretically beat an experienced player in good gear. Now, the experienced player will definitely be able to inflict more damage, have more hitpoints, etc. (reflective of higher stats and gear), but it won't matter nearly as much as other games.

With that said, I think it is important to try to release our minds from the standard class archetypes found in other MMO games. No player can be a walking rock, like a level 70 warrior in some other MMO. Yes, a player that has many skills relating to tanking abilties and wears heavy armor will be better adept at taking more damage, BUT that character will not live forever.

If you choose to focus on 'roles', it can be beneficial in organized groups no doubt, but realize you can be taken down even by players that are considered new.  I would reserve roles for players that can actually fulfill that role. For instance, if your friend really isn't good at using a bow (yes, you have to aim in this game), he may not make a good archer. Likewise, if another doesn't have good situational awareness, a stun-based/disrupt-type mage may not be an optimal choice.

Here lies the beauty in this game.

You do sound stupid though. If you can't aim, then you will fail at being an archer, even if you have maxed all archery related skills. Your own skills as a player will be the most telling thing, followed by your character's skills, followed by your equipment, followed by your race, followed by sheer luck.

@ the OPs question: the racial imbalances will be small, providing only a slight edge in a certain field. You can build any kind of build with any of the races and still be competative and useful. This is to enable Racial clans to compete on the same level as All Race clans as well as to allow players the maximum amount of freedom in racial choice.

I am a skeptical supporter of DF. I am not a fanboi nor a troll. I seek the truth in every discussion, and I am truly sorry if I mistakenly state a fallacy.
