single player mmorpg

We all play single player rpgs sometimes right? internet goes down or whatever.

I thought it would be funny to have a single player game that felt like an mmo with a bunch of npc "players" that run around and level up competing with you.  Some are evil and pk you on sight.  Others you can add to your group.  They would be scattered all over the world, some leveling, some fighting in pvp arenas or trading with npcs.  It would almost feel like a real mmo.  not quite as fun but better than a regular single player game no?

Just seems funny, players with randomly generated names that you keep running in to as you level up.  "is that Franz?!! didn't he pk me?!!!"  and you get your sweet revenge.  They even have random responses to certain situations.  some will just call you names as you walk by them.  There's so much you could do with this idea.  I'm suprised it hasn't been done... hopefully it will one day! I'd try it out for sure.

They were very enjoyable games too. I wish that it was an actual MMO.

Yeah, it was one of the cooler things about those games. You can even "log out" and check your in-game email (which is of course generated dynamically by the game itself) to further the storyline, at certain points. It was a very cool idea.

Unfortunately the MMO version was just as shallow and terribly made as the single-player games of the same name, and the servers were shut down about 2 years ago.

The Massively Single-Player Online Roleplaying Game?

Yeah, I've been thinking about that for years.  I got sidetracked by working on Duke Nukem Online though.

Arguing with me will not make you right.

I have to agree. I really don't understand what you mean. Sounds just like a standard MMORPG.

It's OFFLINE.  picture an mmo but the players are just npcs.  a large community of robots basically.  I think it would be more interesting than regular single player rpgs.
