What do you think Dungeons and Dragons online worth now, 2 years after the release? (Poll and Discus

Dungeons and Dragons online was not a game with a perfect release cause it was not finished at all which made test magazins and sites writing bad reviews overall. But the devloper released a lot of updates/modules to improve the overall game experience (Ai-, sound-, combat- improvements, lots game content, etc) and even added DX10 graphics with their last module/patch. So I think its time for a new rating.

It might be better to break this down a little.  While the graphics might score a 9 or a 10 there's a lot of resonable arguement that would score the Open World of the game far less.  And then if you were to rate the actual content its self it's hard not to give it anything less then a 10.  then there's PvP, or lack thereof, we have Capture the Flag and Deathmatches although the core of the game allows for unbalanced matches, not to mention the mechanics do not encourage involvement by the players since there's no tangible reward, or loss, for the player to experiance.

Based on what the game does well and what little it lacks (contested PvE events; guild structures) I would give a modest 8.0

I haven't re install it yet but what I can say is that Turbine has shown total dedication and love to the game and only that deserves a 10...Turbine really needs to relaunch the game.

I 'm also looking forward for an expansion which will bring the game to a real Open world  with PvP elements.

    Cudos to DDO team

I wasn't there at launch, but in the time I have been playing under Kate the game has only gotten tons better. With the new Mod8 people, like me, that do not know the mountains of D&D rules can not make a character and it not tank in the higher levels.

It does need a retail box re-launch, but I think that has more to do with Atari than anything. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Why would DDO add an open world and PVP to that world?  PVP is the last thing DDO needs.

Game polls never work, it would require people to try and be objective and that is sadly lacking.

I have tried quite a few MMOs and although I wouldn't commit my time to playing any of them except DDO, they all had their strong points and things I liked. There were things I didn't like as well, but a lot of those are purely subjective. For example I detest a lot of the mentality that goes with PvP, but I wouldn't say a game was bad because it was PvP focused, it is just something I wouldn't touch. Same goes for click and forget combat, but some people love that.

I would say that all major MMOs are much of a muchness, and that anything out of the 6 to 8 range is heavily subjective, and probably involves suspect amounts of emotion and/or agenda.

The other problem with polls and forums in general is that it is all just opinions, and the loudest noises tend to come from the emptiest vessels. Is always best to form you own educated opinion from direct experience, without the need for it to be validated by others.

After making another character tonight to see the new starting area I would give the new area an 8. It's huge, has good quests and decent loot compared to the old starting area. DX10 graphics make it look really nice.

The dragon flying around is just really neat to watch.

My main dislike about this game is the world/campaign they chose to do it on. Other than that the mechanics, gameplay, and graphics are great.

I rated it a 10, here are my reasons:

    PRO

    - The community... the community in DDO is absolutely inredibly outstanding. And the ingame voice chat that EVERYONE on the game uses just makes it complete. I cant even begin to count how many raids were spent just sitting around and talking and laughing.. I remember one time we were all waiting for a GM (who was a chick) and my drunken group leader says "Hey hey, tell her if she can help herself show us her titties" which she heard by the way... I have to say it was one of the funniest moments in the game for me. I formed the best ingame friendships I've ever had in my gaming experience here, and 2 years have passed and I've seen my friends come and go back and forth but whenever they come back they are here for a while and I enjoy every moment. The PUG groups often are composed of people just like me and are most of the time there for a good fun group experience and as a bonus, they get XP for having a great adventuring time.

    - Gameplay... DDO has always and will always be completely group-oriented... This leads to bullet number one, and outstanding teamwork and cooperation between group members. The dungeons in this game are really the best in any game you will ever play. There are puzzles that require a LOT of time to complete (VoN5 puzzle, especially when it was first released), there are traps EVERYWHERE, there are certain levers that needed to pulled at certain times, people need to split up, people must be cooperative... Its just an amazing group experience. My friends and I formed a trio which we trio'd all the way up to about lv10 and ran Tempest Spine (a 12man raid) with the three of us and completed it in about 2-3hours (which is much longer than a 12man obviously)

    - Customizable... You make your own character in DDO. There is no preset path bullshizzle, its all you. You wanna make a battlemage-cleric? Go ahead, and you won't be gimp either. If you build it right, you can be a very vital member of a party... There is the rogue-wizard build that is popluar, the battle-mage, witch-hunter, man there are SO many possibilities... its amazing. Just like ol' DnD.

    CONS:

    - Hireling... Guildwars like henchmen are being added soon, takes away from the group experience a little bit, but they are not effective enough to solo passed level 2 so its not a problem.

    - They should add in a low level raid, but not really needed.

    +++++++

All in all, the game is absolutely amazing if you play it for the right reasons, in my opinion.

DDO is not built for Open World or PvP.. they gave us explorer areas for 'open world' but thats it. It is made to be an group instanced dungeon-crawling experience.

If you are expecting PvP in DDO you really should not be. If there was PvP, the games' rules would need be changed... Casters would be nerfed, rangers would be nerfed, saves would be nerfed, the game would turn into a WoW-friendly knock off
