I also need a laptop for college, so any suggestions would be great.
hp. i know you dont think of videogame laptops when you think of them but if you want a pretty good middle of the road laptop for cheap look them up. i got one from them and it runs fallout 3 and farcry 2 on high
Why do people keep asking to get a laptop to do homework but can play games? Don't they have any idea how expensive and inpractical it is. Instead of getting a gaming laptop, they should get a Netbook to do homework and a Gaming PC to play games. It will even come in cheaper then a Gaming Laptop solution and look better.
I have a Dell XPS M1730...yeah, it is a bit expensive but I honestly love this machine. Has the best lap top screen I have seen to date and I can play AOC and Crysis on high settings with no problem.
Cost will depend on your cofiguration and it is LARGE requiring its own special backpack but again, it has been completely worth it to me.
I found the best decent gaming laptops for a good price were the Dell Vostros. They are business laptops, but they have higher specs for a lot less cost than most other dell laptops or any laptops for that matter. Wait for a good sale and look for online coupons. You can save 100s of dollars with the right deal.
One Thing I can recomend is not to buy from Alienware unless your desire is to spend many nights talking with tech support. I have sent mine in for repairs now 4 times in the span of 5 months. One of the times it was gone for 5 weeks while they waited to get the replacement video card in stock. First return they replaced video card and sound card. Second they replaced video card. Third time video card again. 4th time motherboard and video card. I will have to see how long it will last now until the next time i need to send it in.
I do comend some of the things that my computer does have, such as the wonderfol 15.4 inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200. They also have some good styling, but it's not worth the trouble of dealing with all the technical problems. This is after my first one had some many problems that after contacting the BBB Alienware replaced it completely. I should also point out that when they made my second one they got the order wrong and shiped it with the wrong screen, and wanted me to just send it in again for repairs. Avoid Alienware at all costs.
Good luck finding a good comp.
I play WoW and EVE Online on my Mac Book Pro, pumped to the max. Far and away the best piece of equipment I've ever owned, and you're talking to a guy who almost violently opposed Apple and was a DIE-HARD PC fanatic
Able to play my games and it's done a lot for me in Grad School as far as getting me organized and having a nice Unix backbone for me to do my assignments on.
FFXI: Gauhar - Odin
it cant be dont with lap tops you sacrifice performance for portability so just go with the desk top notebook solution far cheaper and will give better games proformance
+1. stick with desktop/gaming pc to playgames
Well here are my suggestions. For a smaller screen

9800gs gpu, nice cpu and ram and your set. Does have a smaller screen though. If you want a bigger screen, which I would recommend for gaming try the

Even has a nice fast 7200 rpm harddrive. Definitely the best two options I can think of. Gateway has been doing very well in this department and I would definitely keep an eye on them before you purchase. The gateway was 1250 the other week with a free pc game of your choice. My friend got it and walked out the door with it and COD4, of which is runs great. He was going to buy an alienware and it ended up costing twice as much for the same specs and has been thanking me ever since.
Second link is my lappy I love it to pieces!
(But I thought they stopped selling it)

It's on their website but I don't think in stores. They may be coming out with a new model soon or bestbuy might be just getting rid of inventory so who knows. But it's a great laptop and very well priced. You have good taste
Thanks, and bestbuy was so cool about it when I first got it for ~$1400 a couple days before that sale they refunded me $200 and let me get the $50 game as well

Very nice. That's the same deal my friend got and he was all prepared to pay $2500 on a worse speced alienware.
