/xp off

I'm tired of not having the ability to turn experience off.  Sometimes I just want to stay in a tier (usually 1, recently 2) and just have fun.  I'm not in a huge rush to max out my character's levels, and I'm finding that I'm gaining experience too fast in massive oRvR combat.  I wouldn't mind leaving a character or two in Tier 1 and 2 to play along with friends and assist lowbies new to the guild.  I realize that Mythic wants us to fill up the upper Tier areas with action, but I've got characters heading that way -- I don't need all of them in Tier 4, only one or two.  I hope that some day Mythic will give us this option.

A secondary reason for this option would be to catch up my Renown Rank on those few occasions when I PvE and my level gets a bit ahead.  Would be nice to gain Renown without worry of moving out of a tier that I'm enjoying.

Mythic, you did this for DAoC, where is the love?

My Two Cents,

Renown rank doesn't need to be so close to level.  Not sure if it changes later, but most of the gear you get for renown needs your level to be almost 75% higher.

As to the toggle, with them taking steps to adjust the population, I doubt we would see this anytime soon.  I would prefer to see them put in a mentor system like EQ2 (with better scaling).  But a /xp toggle would be an easier/faster/poorer way for them to accomplish this.

Maybe they don't want too many people to keep the relative maximum highest rank indefinatly in RvR scenarios and RvR regions.

Currently it's impossible to keep reknown and regular rank close together without missing some content. I've decided to pass on most PQ because of this

Xp toggle is stupid, play the game and get to the end game.

This feature would just result in people sticking to the highest level for the tiers, 11, 21 and 31 and killing any newbies in seconds that come along because they will be able to max out their gear.

Why play the game if u dont want to advance?

get to level 40 and play, trust me lvl 40 will be far more entertaining than level 11... unless your one of those people who enjoy ease mode.

  • fansedefansede Member UncommonPosts: 960

I seem to have this problem myself as well. I want to experience the entire game, but I get chickened if I outlevel my area (and if I need to go into an RvR area).

I wonder if Mythic would have been better served if there was simply Reknown rank levels and not experience levels?

Simply put, you can still gain experience while in PvE, but perhaps at a slower rate than in Open RvR.

Cool, I was hoping to find someone who would pay my $15/month.  Oh wait, you're not going to? Then don't tell me how to enjoy the game.

I've enjoyed every level so far, and sometimes my friends are left behind due to less playtime or less fortune in playing.  I would like to shut off xp and stick around with them.  Or, as mentioned, help out a lowbie new to the guild.  Or, just stick around and continue enjoying Sea of Claws, or Troll Country, or High Pass, or wherever I happen to be.    Point being, why rush to end game? I see zero point if you're enjoying yourself.

I've given valid reasons for an xp toggle, you've given your opinion of my character -- apparently I'm an unskilled newb killer with uber equipment (There is so little difference in equipment at lower levels that we know this can't be true).

I'm going to give you a piece of advice:  Don't believe everything you think.  And definitely feel free to not share it.

I'm also for an Xp OFF toggle for all MMOs.

Or even better skill based MMO withtout levels.

he was basically saying that you wanted to be a twink..and that is exactly what it sounds like.

just as a question.. what LEVEL would you want to stop at? 12 13? or 22-23?   ohh thats right prolly 11 or 21 :)

You can STILL help out newbies in guilds as long as it isnt' in RVR.. you can go down into lower Tiers and help them with PQs and help them with Quests without being a chicken so whats your point?

And you pay 15 bucks to a game to play it the way it was designed.. so jut because you pay 15 bucks doens't mean you can exploit the mechanics to play the way YOU want when it wasn't inteded for that.

I can see reasons for not wanting a 100% toggle.

I would like to see a cheap RR tactic you could purchase to increase Renown by 20%, with a 20% decrease in XP, unusable once you hit BR 40. (or even just a -20% XP tactic).

I enjoy PvE, but want to keep my RR (Realm Rank) with in a few levels of my BR (Battle Rank). I find I often end up having to skip PvE content because I have earned too much XP while chasing RR.

Yes, when I played DAoC, I tended to turn off xp when I am about to level out of an area.  That happens to be at maximum level for that area.  In the case of WAR, that would be at lvl 11, 21, and so on.  I see no problem with this whatsoever.  And I certainly don't see this as a "Gotcha! You newbie killer scumbug!" moment.  I guess I understand that sometimes you might want to hang with friends a bit longer than allowed and play along with them.  Sorry you can't understand this notion.

Anyway, it worked for one game, it could easily work for WAR.  Of course, from the sound of it, you hurriedly leave Tier 1 and go into PvE when you hit level 11 so as not to carry an advantage over anyone else.  How admirable of you.  I, on the other hand, realize that level and equipment is mostly meaningless and have often killed those of higher level and better eq.  And, the usual situation is a large number of players running together where one or two higher level players doesn't mean much in the zerg against zerg of tier 1 and 2.  Maybe you don't participate, and therefore, lack knowledge in this category.

As to exploiting the mechanics? How dastardly of me.  Asking for a new mechanic is exploiting a mechanic in... hmm... what way? As of right now I cannot do such a thing, and if I found a way, THEN it would be exploiting.  Oh, but perhaps just WRITING about an xp toggle is exploiting.  Oh my.  XP Off was later added to DAoC, I suppose anyone using it would be exploiting the mechanics of the game and how it was originally intended to be played -- we should have a talk with those players.

As to PQs and Quests, and things I did not mention as a way in which I intended to help lowbies, the point of an XP toggle is to assist in RvR, not PvE.  But thanks for offering up your off-topic opinion.

Seriously, when did good rhetoric go out the window?

Maybe if they had more games that didn't use XP we wouldn't need /xp off.

Think about it, if WAR was skill based, you could literally be wherever you want doing whatever you want because there is no need for a control mechanism like levels and experience.

Instead, micro-experience that is transparent to the user per skill used and action taken is a much better model.

Too bad theres only one game that does this, and hardly anyone plays it anymore.

Levels and experience make online games boring and repetative.

Skill use systems are also repetative, but you get to choose where when why and how and for how long.

There's a game where you can stay at the max level for your tier.. it's call World of Warcraft.

Adding a /xp off is a waste of the devs time.  especailly because, as stated int he paster, the point of this game is ENDGAME.. not twinking your character.  This isn't a PvE game. You don't need to experience all of the PvE with one character, you have 10 slots.  10.  I'm tired of seeing 7+ max level characters for scenarios as is.  So is mythic, hence the PvP XP.    So.. here's how to play your game.. GO PLAY WoW.. there you can max out your bracket and kill all the lowbies you want. Peace.

This is my opinion, but this would be a total nightmare.

People would just used Trinked out characters with blues and purple items, this wouldnt be fun for anyone that is level 1, 21 or 31 starting in a scenario agaist people 10 levels above them. One hit and they are down, where is the fun in that. Griefing would be at a all time high and BG's would suck.

(This may be a devil in disguise, but then no one would like to run into a BG, then people  will be forced to RvR over BG scenario fighting because the playing field for RvR in open world would be alot better).

Now if the system was saying, ok, lets have a fair playing field.. Level 11s, 21s and 31s vs other 11s, 21s, and 31s in scenarios. Well we might as well have Arenas in the game then. And the game is supposely centric around RvR and not Battlegrounds in a X vs X amount of players.

    This is my 2 cents.

To stalk you, you would have had to been posting in the WAR forums before me; right?

I post when the posts interest me, the fact that it was you making an extremely "smart" statement...well that just made it all the sweeter.

At any rate, I love the overabundance of the use of "twink"...it doesn't exist anymore, there are level requirements on items, skill requirements, etc.

DAOC  had the /xp off mechanic.

But this game is so far from its predecessor that the mechanic probably doesn't work well into the design.

But I can understand the desire to have it.

I'm telling, if they implemented an /xp off option the majoriy of PvP would be against people who should have leveled out of the tier. And would scare away the level <8 players which is not mythics idea.

You can go into the next area and get the gear for t2.  It's not that much better than what you might have, but around t2 (level 10/11 req) the gear is blue.  Also, sadly, mythic has the higher level critter drops lower level gear, instead of even con gear (level 11 monster dropping level 11 loot, currently, it's level 11 monster drops level 7 loot.  Level 14 monsther drops level 10/11 loot)

So, as much as you ask for an /xp off feature for the sole purpose of PvP.. you are effectivly the driving force that would cause a lot people to leave this game.  So, if you want to "TWINK" your character to be max level for the lower level tiers.. There is a game for you..

They tried to AVoid Twinks in the game. the exploit was in reference to you wanting to be able to twink. even though you don't see it that way.. if I had a level 11 and got every piece of level 11 PQ blue geer.. I woudl be a twink.. and destroy people. Sure you can beat certain classes aroudnyoru level.. its not about that. its group tactics mostly.. but when you are backed up by a group of other max level blue geared people anyone who is not max level blue geared will most likely lose.. and that is the imbalance they are tryign to avoid. I am glad you wish this was different.. so you can take advantage of that.

Wow has twinks that are unkillable unless by another twink.. the farther this game gets from that.. the better.

    :)

    enjoy War.

I'm going to give you a piece of advice:  Don't believe everything you think.  And definitely feel free to not share it.

First paragraph you said is just dumb reply.

Its not a rush to end game it's called gaining experience as you fight with your character.

I stay with my point people can disagree but xp toggle will never happen so moan all you want.

p.s. about your friends, tell me, why the fuck did u roll on an open RvR, you sit here and complain about helping low level guildies.. i help low level guildies on my CORE sever, but not in open RvR because thats unfair and i obviously get chicken debuff as im level 29.

Pointless post, havnt even got your facts straight really.

Flame me fuck it i don't care, you idea is shit and your post is pointless.

I equate you to skum.  Peace.

Glad to see the community is going full kid nerd rage on people already.  "OMG he wants to stay in a tier because he is level cap!?!?!?!?  SCUM, TWINK, NOOB"

Chase them all back to WOW or whatever you think they should be playing.  Then when the game is deserted, you can play with yourself; probably not such a new concept to some of you.

We have a computer comedian... seem to live on this forum, funny fucker who uses sarcastic wording to make himself sound big through writting.. pathetic.

Rank 11 player with a renown rank of 80, thats a great fucking idea.....

You can't have a Realm Rank higher than your Battle Rank until you hit BR 40.

Players could twink with Talismans, (higher stat, expensive talismans are starting to be produced for the AH now on my server).

That's why I'd rather see a Realm Tactic that allows you to tone down your XP by say 20%. Too much XP in scenarios makes it hard for people who want to balance PvE with PvP to do so while keeping their RR close to their BR.

I agree.../xp off should be put in the game. I have many times out leveled friends and guildies and could no longer play the same scenarios with them.

Also it would be good for taking lower tiers. If you need to take tier 1 for something how are you going to do it if you're in tier 4 and there are very few if any new plaers to battle in those tiers.
