Does an MMO exist for me?

B1ightB1ight Member Posts: 109

I'm currently subscribed to both WAR and Age of Conan... Both have their pluses, and minuses, but neither capture that feeling I got when I first started playing MMO's.  I know the market is going down hill for us ol' timers, but maybe, just maybe there is something i'm unaware of out there for me.

I have tried everything new and "exciting."  I've played WoW, WAR, AoC, EVE(for a long time), FFXI(For a very very very long time close to 4 years).  I've played EQ2, and anything else thats out there.

I'm looking for a game that can keep me entertained with a great community.  I enjoy all aspects of MMO's... I like to PvP, I like really good captivating PvE(FFXI really provided me lots of great memories).  I like for my MMO's to be hard.  I'm not looking for a instant gratification MMO and I don't care if its Pay to play or F2P.

New, Old, P2P, F2P doesnt matter to me... Someone sell me on a game try out, or give a chance to.  I want something that makes me feel great when I've finally accomplished something that I've been trying to do.

What you're asking is pretty broad. Most MMOs these days are going to revolve around the instant gratification mentality, because for some reason, people seem less and less able to appreciate how captivating an MMO might be if people actually have to be challenged and take considerable time to achieve something.

Unfortunately, I don't think anyone is going to be able to "sell you" on an MMO. You've clearly played most of the well known and better ones.

All I can say is that I'm really looking forward to Jumpgate: Evolution, but that game will be very different from other MMOs, as you pilot a one-man space ship with twitch based movement.

So unless that appeals to you, I don't see anything on the horizon.

i'm signed up for beta for JGE it really depends on the path it takes... if it is anything like EVE with twich based gaming i'd be all over it... I want a meaning behind the PvP... own space, land, whatever... so we'll see

Having played eve is almost a curse, so few other games can even come close to providing the same depth. And there are certainly no contenders out there at the moment, I've tried them all and found them wanting.

I'm keeping an eye on Earthrise though, they seem to have a few good ideas, but it will be years before that game is ready.

Sounds as if you've played pretty much all the 'big' games out there. And if you haven't found what you want amongst those I'd say it might be time to give up hope.

The only game I can think to suggest as you didn't list it above is Vanguard. It's certainly not instant-gratification, has a nice big world to explore along with an interesting crafting and diplomacy system. The population isn't huge but from what I've experienced the community is better than many others and is gradually on the upturn. PvP isn't implemented yet but they're patching it in soon.

If you haven't played it then I'd suggest giving it a try. There is a 14-day trial available so it's worth giving it a shot.

I have decided to give Vangaurd an honest effort... played the 14 day trial a bit last night and started up a bard.  I played a bard in FFXI for many years.... So far i'm really really enjoying the game although I wish it ran better on my computer... I guess it's time to upgrade the ol' computer... and my computer isnt even that bad of a machine...

Try Lineage 2. Your last chance, to be honest.

If you are looking for pvp and engrossing pve, do not overlook Guild Wars.  (Please, no flames on whether GW is a "real" MMO).  In terms of pvp, there 4 v 4 random arena, 4 x 4 team arena, 8 v 8 Heroes' Ascent and 8 v 8 GvG; and, if you get factions there is always the neverending battle between the Luxons and the Kurzicks.    Guild Wars also sports an engrossing pve story in all 3 versions.  There is still plenty of people playing GW, and plenty of guilds are recruiting new members.     You should at least take a look at it.

Hedonismbot: Your latest performance was as delectable as dipping my bottom over and over into a bath of the silkiest oils and creams.

I'd say wait for the next batch of mmos; Darkfall, stargate worlds, and aion.

If you enjoy vanguard then stick with that.  Otherwise, try Lotro.  Many people enjoy this game.

I agree, GW is a fun game but it misses something... However Guildwars 2 will fix that. Arenanet didn't really have the budget to do a real classic MMO after they jumped off from Blizzard so they made a simple and fun game that was cheap and gave them some good cash and credability (of course they already did Warcraft 3 for blizz so they had a bit of the last).

Now anyways they can afford it and Arenanet have 3 of the worlds best programmers, I never even seen a bugg in GW ever and during the year I played it was down 30 minutes. How long have your favorite games been doen in a year?

Look out for GW2, and if you're bored GW is cheap and worth to play for a while, it is 4 years old however and whole I personally thinks it looks better that wow it is still aging fast now. Also Gw is heaveky instanced. GW2 won't be.

Other games coming out to look for is: Spellborn (in this month), Aion (soon), Darkfall (supposedly dec), World of darkness online (2010 I think) and Old republic online (?).
