NEW PLAYERS STAY AWAY FROM EVE ONLINE! unless you like free for all PVP because you will begin to getting ganked within hours of starting eve non-pvpers are just blood in the water to the pvp gankers that harass you and destroy your ships that may take you weeks to buy. most non-pvpers get fustrated and cancel in just a few months and there are no large non-pvp guilds if a non-pvp guild gets too large they get war declared on them and become fare game 24/7 this means you either become pvp or you sit in a station doing nothing for a week (if not more) or you cancel and go to another game where you can play in relative peace. eve is still a very nitch game that is why they have so few subscribers STARTREK ONLINE will get more subscribers on their first day than eve has this new ship construction thing is a direct responce to STO ship system the wormholes will really only be for PVPers because they will destroy anyone else that isnt a pvp template like them and you can never catch up you will be stuck with the same noob universe that hasnt changed since release. EVE looks prety but the universe is dead and boring and the quests are as fun as a tax audit. some day maby the icelandic brain will thaw out and they will realize how bad they are messing up (not as bad as sony but prety bad) save your money and wait for STO.
Haha, you have no clue.
However, I will enlighten you
First of all, EVE Online may be a niche game, but it has 250k subs, which makes it the second largest premium mmorpg in the West, only surpassed by WoW.
Secondly, if you can't handle it, don't play it, but stop crying and telling new players should not play it. A friend of mine recently started, and is having fun, and haven't been killed yet.
And DUH, of course you need a PVP setup to fly in PVP areas ...
And lol about STO, it will be WoW in space, and I don't care if it will get more subs ( which it probably won't ).
Actually EVE Online IS a world, STO won't be.

What exactly does "The catch here is that success or failure in any given quest will actually effect the experience that you have". Oh and I partially agree with the person who said stay away for new people. Yes, the game has lots of ganking, its PvP oriented. As a pure PvE, i was basically locked out of all the good stuff in 0.4 and lower. Yeah you guys may be lucky and dont see any action, but when I jump in 0.4 and someone starts locking on to me, my heart just sinks in becuase i basically carry all my stuff with me. If i lose my ship, i bump back a week or two. I dont know how to fight, i dont know how to PvP and I can't join any decent corp because my hours are low and irregular (RL comes first). But, to be fair, you cant say new players should avoid this. New players who preffer PvE should avoid this. But if you dont mind PvP, this game will be for you. Too bad i dont like PvP, i really liked the graphics and the atmosphere of Eve. But, i will never resub again because of CCP dubious conduct regarding ghost training.
Dubious conduct regarding ghost training?
Ghost training was just stupid, and while they let the "bug" or "feature" exist for a long time, they eventually decided that it was unfair and probably cost them too much money, and removed it, and I agree 100%
No other premium mmorpg let people train when they don't have a subscription. ( cept for trials )
Quitting EVE for that is stupid imho, but it is your loss.

B - The PvP Combat system, is actually not that enjoyable, itmay sound exciting flying Space ships and formingFleets but in reality it is not and an Engagement can end in Seconds. Even if you have a Battleships, it can blow up in a matter of seconds in combat. And the people who have been there for a long time know the tricks know the gear, and jave both the player Skill and Character Skills and they will enjoy and laugh about blowing you out of the sky and then even watch you being upset about it. There is a mean people that play that game, I actually laughed when someone said in these comments that EVE has as purpose to keep the psychopaths off the streets, I laughed because it is true to some extent but also because it is usually the perception of mainstream MMOG players when they come in contact with a sandbox PvP oriented game. If in the future they can address the Combat and how it all works to make for some better experience that could be reminescent of what we read in Sci-Fi books or watch in Sci-fi movies (B5, ST, SW etc), then it has most of the other elements to appeal to many many more people. Till then however, many people will be playing other games, andhoping to find that which they seek in them, I look forward to STO myself, and hope it will offer a better Combat Experience, albeit I am pretty sure it will not offer the premise of EVE.
it is true that you can travel for 30-90 minutes only to be podded 5-10 seconds after entering a battle area getting killed in 1-2 shots from a ship that is 10x-20x out of your range.
the ship combat its self is very 2D for a 3D universe only a single shield and omni direction guns and no astroid or planet tactics so its alot like 2 guys on a football field spraying each other with guns kind of "spray and pray" oh and guards have no direct way to protect unarmed ships being escourted, this means that you could have 4 guard battle ships and still be ganked before the battleships can respond.
whatever brenth, you dont like the game, fine, but it is currently one of the few mmorpg's that offer a World instead of a game, which is what you were looking for if I read your signature right.
