Hi, i have wanted to start playing FFXI but i am still not sure. I do have a couple questions though.
1. The game is for PS2, but will it work on a PS3?
and
2. Do players on the consoles play along side each other and with players that are on the computer?
Thanks
Comments
1 - I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think so.
2 - Yes, PS2 player play along side PC players. I had both versions but stuck with the PS2 version. And people say that console MMOs don't work. Silly bastards.
thanks for the fast reply. but after i posted i found this, so i guess you can, it just takes time.

Let me warm you as a veteran FFXI player. Not sure if you already know these though. This is not to discourage you, but to make sure you know what to expect.
1. This game can get fraustrating at the start, and sometimes fraustrating at high levels. Note monster of same level as you is stronger than you in general.
2. This game is based on teamwork, and also very job class oriented. Mages and tank are in higher demand than physical DD. You can always change job anyways, so there is never a need to completely make a new character.
3. Once you get one job to 75 and does enough of the storyline, the game starts to get extremely addictive.
4. Getting one job or multiple job to 75 (max level) and support jobs associated with it to 37 (sub job) will take a while (don't worry it is not very grindy if you do it right), however, it depend on whether your party is set up well enough to pull in the xp. This is no cake walk in this game, it depends on both party setup and individual strength as well.
Example: A well build party with strong members can pull in anywhere from 4k-10k xp an hour decimating mobs after mob. A bad xp party can go anywhere from losing xp to 2-3k an hour, dying, killing slowly.
5. There are alot of contents and more than half are best done in end game. So many in fact, it takes real dedication and good friends/Linkshell memebers to obtain the equipment you wish to get. This may get very fraustrating due to the difficulty to obtain a good equipment is sometimes incredibly hard.
6. Other than server difference, there are not country limit to this game. You will see people type in various language in game. However English works for 65% of the people playing. Japanese players usually will not quite understand you if you speak only English. There are simple auto translate function for game/general terms to help you communicate if you wish to learn to use it.
7. In this game it is easy to tell a good player from a bad one since it is much more difficult to do a good job regardless of what you are playing. However that is the main reason why good players are respected in this game.
There are more but this covers the general stuff, there are much to learn in FFXI. Have fun but remain skilled as a player.
