Tired of the old boring point and click MMO's.

Hello, I am new here. I'm GripMasta nice to meet you all.

The purpose of this thread was to ask some questions.

Let me introduce you to some facts before I ask them:

I was born into the Video Gaming world, beating Mario when I was three years old, I grew up around games. I inclined my gaming to MMORPG's as I got older but I always viewed them as long, pointless battles to get to the top first. Of course, the person with the most playing time... hypothetically SHOULD be the strongest. That's an MMORPG, the fat asian nerd with the most playing time is able to destroy anyone. I wanted to move away from those elements, and the skill-less factor, too. The fact that in most games (MMORPG's) there isn't a lot of "excitement". It's usually endless grinding. And for the RPG people... omfg quests lawl. Quests are grinding with an extra reward. MMORPG's suddenly molded themselves into endless grind and boring skill-less PvP. Sadly after that I retired from the MMO world and I ventured into consoles. I realized that the console games offered better gameplay. You have to be fast, try to kill the final monster 5 times, because the games do in fact, take >>> skill <<<. MMORPG's didn't, and as a competitve person I hated it. Sadly consoles at that time did not offer online gameplay and MMORPG's did. As stated before, since I am very competetive I returned to the Massive gameplay. Obviously I could have sticked to console games, but that only offered my real life friends as game-rivals and it was fun.... but to an extent. I would much rather fight against people all around the world, etc. But sadly, as I said the MMORPG's took no skill. Kill 10 monsters and return. Kill 20 and you get Leather Gloves. It was entertaining but not the type of entertainment I was looking for. Then as time went by I simply embraced those online rules and stuck to the MMORPG's. I played WoW for 3 years and a game-hopped around for one year. As the years went by companies realized that gamers were sick of the point and click games and the boredom of endless grinding. I decided to look for skill-based MMO's and I played Rakion for 2 years (alongside WoW) and I stuck to Rakion and then I game-hopped some more. AoC tried to implement a "new battle" system that failed, Darkfall Online seems to be trying to make it real time, Mortal Online "promises" real time but there isn't much on their site. I'm looking for a game where skill matters. Of course I want it to have RPG elements and purty graphics but the fact that someone NEEDS to spend hours to be good is not what I want in a game. That's why I picked skill-based ones.

I recently saw some footage of Blade and Soul, and Continent of the Ninth and I was impressed, it seems as if Korean companies have indeed heard the voices of gamers like me that in fact want competition in MMORPG's, and not only in MMOFPS's. I played Lunia for some months, and I love it, if I didn't lag in it I'd probably stick with it. The battle system is like never before, if you have the quickness and the proper hand eye coordination, you can combo a person forever. Games like Lunia where gamer skill matters, that's what the MMORPG world needs. To keep the uncomparable RPG elements of the best titles and to implement a unique battle system where the gamer is in fact "involved" and alert.

Companies don't realize that people might buy Aion and WAR because of the hype and the pretty graphics and features, but if the battle system required ACTUAL skill and quickness, those games would take WoW off the market.

My question is : Why don't companies focus on combat systems, instead of "wings" (Aion), or beautiful environments?

Lunia, having HORRIBLE graphics compared to those two, is a huge, and believe me a HUGE hit in Korea, people can buy like... puppets related to the game. Just because of the battle system, the game's RPG elements are good but not great, and the game is a huge hit. People want "gameplay" not graphics.

For true gamers, WAR = WoW.

Aion = Crap

And please, I am not here to flame no one or no game. I am explaining my opinion. The games are great, but my expectations of their battle systems are not.

Thanks, and please, don't flame, I'm allergic to fire.

    These are only suggestions and are not meant to be mean. Firstly don't make a paragraph that big because most people won't take the time to read it since it makes it more difficult to read. Second this is the LFGame forum and your question wasn't you looking for a game as much as it was wanting to discuss why companies do such and such. Lastly I suggest not to judge a game that hasn't been released yet (Aion). If it was a F2P game I could accept calling it crap now because generally the patch changes are never as big as a P2P game before final release. On to the meat of your post.

    Gripmasta: My question is : Why don't companies focus on combat systems, instead of "wings" (Aion), or beautiful environments?

    Our world is one where people judge on appearance. To get the majority of people to look and possibly try a game it has to be pretty. Just look at all the threads in the LFGame forum, including yours, where people have a requirement of pretty graphics. Also trying something new and innovative with game play has a high chance of failure which results in lots of money lost.

    Saying the majority of MMOs are uninteresting, require no skill, and have endless grinding is your personal opinion. Most games don't have leveling as the only form of game play. It's normally paired with professions and PvP at least. How you decide to play is ultimately your choice. If an MMO isn't challenging you enough I suggest picking a difficult class. Weakest normally being a healer or cloth wearer and the hardest normally being a class that has to do multiple things at once such as CC or non aoe agro tank.

    If that doesn't satisfy your need for a more challenging game I suggest playing Dofus or waiting on Darkfall. I only mention Dofus because on the front page it mentions permanent death.
