People should team up because they want to, not because they are forced to. I like grouping from time to time, with the right people. I also like soloing, I don't care if the only way YOU can have fun is grouping. I don't WANT to be limited to a narrow little slot, in someone else little plan. ASK people what they are good at, find out what they want to do. I think your, so called, wisdom is just your desire to be in control.
Well, in a word... it's a BLAST ! Truely and completly a blast I'm really really enjoying my havester / Jewel crafter, and their is something new in the final version : A COMUNITY (oh, btw, Matis rock guys !!).
I wanted to like this game in the worst way. However, the devs lost me along the way. The game was definitely rushed to market way too soon. The missions are horrible, balance poor, the economy is likely to be a total mess. The world has many cool elements, but the map design is generic and uninteresting.
I think what totally turned me off in the end was that though it was clearly rushed and incomplete, the CEO continued to hype the game by citing features that aren't in the game and based on the rate of development I saw during beta will probably not be in the game during the first year. Talk about unrealistic expectations! The game design, on paper, could be incredible, but too many of those imaginings still only exist on paper and in the hype put out by Nevrax.
The novelty of some of this games elements will quickly wear off and the small group of people who form the player base will dwindle rapidly.
There have been some promising games, well along in development, that have been canceled recently. If Ryzom had been the product of any of those companies, the plug would likely have been pulled. Finances ran out on this game and it is still barely what one would expect from a late stage alpha version.
The wild card on the financial front is the European audience. They may take pride in a European game and seem to be more patient and less demanding when it comes to a game being fairly complete at launch. Nevrax may thus find themselves with enough funding to develop this into the game it could have been.
When that happens, I will give it another look, but I'm not expecting the game to reach that point for at least a year, if not longer.

So Kenshoo, you bought the game, is there much difference with the beta. or anyone that bought the game. I really would like to know what has changed... ;-)
I happen to see *alot* in it that is unique to the other MMOs I've played (AO, AC2, FFXI, DAoC, Shadowbane, Ragnarok Online, Endless Ages (blech), Lineage II, Planetside and a few others). But, I think that's purely and only because of what I'm looking for in a game. Aside from AC2 which gets part way there and FFXI which gets most of the way there (but just annoys me in too many other ways), Ryzom is the only MMO of the batch I've tried that "feels" different to me. The world, the races, the creatures, the ambience.. everything just keeps me very intrigued and eager to see and do more. It satisfies what I've been looking for in a game.
Others clearly have different things they look for that Ryzom simply didn't meet.
As for the game system, I never judge one game's system based on a completely different game's. That's pointless. I only judge it based on how it works in Saga of Ryzom.. and for me, it's great. It's liberating and promotes experimentation, but without going overboard and feeling unwieldy. To compare it to another game's would be moot..
So.. even though certain individuals among us might feel I'm a moron and should stop playing games, I think Nevrax has created something very good here that has the room to get even better... I think those who wait, continue playing and offering *supportive* and *constructive* feedback to Nevrax, not just "it sucks" or "it's gonna fail", will find that the game gets better and better over time as the bugs are ironed out - and they will; and more content is added - and it will.
But, in the words of Dennis Miller.. "That's just my opinion.. I may be wrong"

Well, I'm thoroughly enjoying Ryzom.

I agree with you, the game is like this beacause of its gameplay.
Otherwise it's a great game.
