Age of Conan... coming back

Okay so I played AoC since launch and about a month in quit, at level 40. The news about AoC keeps pouring in on this website and the forum on it seems pretty active. I was just wondering is it making a comeback with new content/ more balanced gameplay/better storyline?

Wouldn't surprise me too much if it did. Funcom already did the impossible by bringing Anarchy Online back to life, even if it was a shadow of what it could have been. This little stumble should be a walk in the park to correct compared to that.

    Edit: woot, 3K posts.

Well community survey 46% show that the community feel a significant improvement. There were also some percentages into the fanboi regime. Point is, AoC is getting in very good shape now. When they launch that new outdoors area currently on testlive I am sure things will pick even more up. Time will show if this is the point where evrything turns.

So far no MMORPG has ever recovered from a bad launch no matter what they do. Odds are AoC fate is sealed.

Nah. The only real come back AOC will ever see is on the Xbox360 which it was developed for at its heart. Hence the heavily instanced world and small long narrow zones. Unless that's changed it will never be a big MMO on the Pc, just a very small niche.  If any spike in AOC player numbers  it will be dismayed WAR players bouncing from MMO to MMO while the wait for Aion, DarkFall, SG1 etc to arrive.

AO recovered very well from a horriable buggy launch, but back then they only had UO, Everquest and Asherons Call to compete with!  In todays market you're pretty much right, but wrong to say no MMO ever has.

Although EQ2 didn't have a bad launch par se, it's sub numbers since launch show a decline followed by a decent rise. Where as lotro is said to have had a near perfect launch, lots of free content etc shows 50% retention 1 year on to 140k ish subs (so says mmochart's).

Anyone looking at the game whom has played before has to ask themselves did they find any part enjoyable? why did they quit? and does current game satisfy the reason for leaving, if not then don't waste your money. Getting that perspective from taking into consideration from people whom don't play the game is a bad idea just as it is from those who played the first month 5 months ago. Current community survey shows people are happier.

I wanted to try the game, but lack of a trial and no buddy keys available, I gave up, but it looks ok.

Why did you quit before when you only got to level 40? if it was because of bugs or performance reasons then come back give it another go, if it was because you wern't having fun then it's going to be exactly the same but with less people around.

The remaining population is the die hards and hanger ons.  They would be more forgiving than the average player, so their scores/opinions will be more favourable too.

    Waiting for the next thing

I woul not come back now. I actually left not so long ago, despite the recent patches.

The game is great if you can focus solely on graphics and sounds. If you look for anything else beyond that it is a no man's land. Funcom clearly spent 99% of the budget on one area of the game leaving everything else behind, they now pay the price...

It is very sad as this clearly could qualify as this "new generation MMO" myth/legend i saw other games try to push before (which failed).

    My 2 cents

So you've read the news and you noticed the forum is active and you had to ask this question? Not being mean but  this smells of something.

Personally I would wait until financial reports are released, server merges take place and lets see if they can get everything in that was suppossed to be in at release. Personally I think that on the one year anniversary of launch the game may be close to what some people expected at release. Not saying that people will like  it or dislike it then but I think it will be what the old head hancho was wanting

I decided to re-subscribe to the game little over a week ago, and so far I am having more fun than I did in Warhammer Online.

During that week I have been grinding my way to level 80 (yes it is still a grind), but along with that I have had several large PvP encounters with an enemy guild.  At one point we would have been close to 30v30 in Khesh.

I am on Hyperborea RP-PvP server, and find it very entertaining.  There is very little players who play the game only to gank other players.  There is one guild that does it, but only seems to join in on other conflict.  Just last night we had a battle lasting over 2 hours (which did get boring), but shows that things still happen.

The battle still rages on and probably will between King's Guard and the Order of the Blade.

IMO I like the server with the population it is at the moment, I know that most of my guild is agaisnt server merges.

Not necessarily. WAR is a big flop as far as im concerned. Fixable? Yes  but likely no. I"m gaining interest in AOC. I  like eye candy , I Love PVP and well if i can find good reason the community is mature i may give it a try.  By mature u mean a player base of say 25+ roughly. For what its worth WOW was not a graceful launch so your speculation is flawed.

Free to play only gets you the original game.  They actually came back to get a decently large population of paying customers.  The free to play is to get you in and hook you.  Once your hooked you have to plop down a  pretty considerable chunk of change to get the rest of the features.

Eve had a terrible launch. This continued for half a year, then it started growing and growing.

Sorry to say, but you are dead wrong.

I would definately recommend coming back. The new zone is coming in tomorrow. Not sure what servers all of you are from, but if you are looking for active people and stuff going on every night i would join the Cimmeria server. My guild has PVP sieged 5 times int he past two weeks. The PVE content is working great and is challenging and one on has even finished it all yet on any server. The game is only going to get better here on out. So, those that say there is nothing to do are either not in a decent size guild or didn't give it a chance due to maybe low population of your server. As I said above it is only going to get better so I would definately give it a try if you are thinking about it.

Hmm for the whole 7 years I played AO, I guess the HUGE population were all hiding on the German Server.

A lot of Anarchy Online's charm was the fact the community was small and close knit, you ended up knowing most of the hardcore players personally. Folks didn't try to pull a scam often, word got around too quick. You'd ruin your rep and you couldn't get in a team or a raid, guilds would drop you, guild leaders all talked keeping you from getting into a another.

Hell if you accidentaly ninja looted, you might as well delete your toon and reroll.....

You'll find the Rp-PvP servers by and large to have the most mature and active PvPing going on..the "hardcore" pvpers are complaining that they can't get enough sieges going on.. and on Cimmeria there are people that are sieging every night of the week... Alliances are wonderful things..

(OP) "is it making a comeback with new content/ more balanced gameplay/better storyline?"

I would say yes, New content = pvp system / Yimr's pass and some other stuff.

More Balance YES, Better gameplay YES, storyline a bit better in the new Zone,

Ymir's pass has alot of stuff from the lore.

Soon they will put in alot more stuff, its now the magic is happening

Look at the number of posts coming from the fanbois they have and the OP this being his first post, one wonders if this is not just a hype post for a game in trouble.

Great conspiracy theory you got going there. You could also wonder if you just joined two years ago to bash AoC when it was released. Please. Take your wild accusations to Fox News.

This forum should get a Darwin Award for it's clientele.

After fixing the HoX somewhat they have now destroyed it. Reading the forums and the patch notes reminds me about why I quit. And unlike a lot of doomsayers and AoC trolls, I really gave this game a chance and achieved a lot.  There just isn't enough variety, it gets extraordinarily repetitive. There's no depth.

So I would probably disagree with you on most posts, but hey then again I am playing it because I ultimately like it. Not all people can dig all games, so try the next MMO coming oyt (whenever that is going to be).
