Yesterday was my day off, i'm on the east coast and did'nt get to play the game at all.   Btw anyone know at what time servers went up ?

So this morning i get up a bit earlier to play the game and guess what, they are doing another maintenance, apparently servers are gonna back up by 10AM est.

10 AM est, unexpected problems again, YAY !  This is my 2nd day off and look like it's gonna be the same story today.

Does anyone still believe WOTLK launch tomorrow is gonna be smooth when the last 2 days have been nothing but problems after problems ?

They came back up last night at about 11pm CST.  They were fine, but due to Blizz's screwup with free S2 gear for Locks and Priests, they had to do DB Maintenance this morning, which went wrong.  IMHO, they need to fire some DBA's because they have really screwed the pooch the last few days with DB shit.  All day long the servers were down, only to get one email in your in-game box stating that they were going to try to get you your gold and items in the next few days......Good job Blizz

I too am off on tuesdays and could not get on all day yesterday. Last week they had too extend the maintenece period as well. I understand this is a part of mmo's but really its a bit much. Perhaps all this is going on as a last minute "fix" so wotlk goes smoothly. ahh, one can hope

This is odd for Blizzard.  In the last four years I can't remember as many problems as we've had in the last 2 weeks.  The fightening part is both these issues probably don't have much to do with Wrath... they seem to be basic database issues.

I think it's pretty obvious that they are doing some upgrades to the servers along with the release of WoTLK and they are running into problems.  I'd be willing to bet it has everything to do with Wrath or more accurately the upgrades they are doing along with Wrath.

Ok, lets go over the basic of statistics and probabilities here.

If something runs smoothly for a long period of time, it means invariably, something will go wrong and usually on the same magnitude proportional to the amount of time it have been running smoothly.

This is actually the law of average, but twisted and changed its meaning by no other than, me. LOL

LOL Mumbi....yeah i have now been at 2 jobs that my IT department has been outsourced there as well.  Have you ever seen the clan like structures where the living pods are attached to the building you work at as well?  God bless America that I get the opportunity to walk out my company door and drive/walk/bike to a dwelling not attached to the building that I work in.  Talk about legalized imprisonment.

Blizzard really has fallen a great deal as far as customer service and coding is concerned. I mean days before your big hyped expansion hits and the game is literally unplayable without the expansion doesn't ring a good bell for the players.

It's pretty pathetic that with their game being so successful they can't seem to keep the game running without the expansion. It's going to be funny watching this half arsed company flail when the expansion goes live and the servers are down for a week... Kinda looking forward to it.

Blizzard isn't too bad, they are good at certain things.  I don't really consider MMORPG one of their strong points however.  Can't wait for Star Craft II.

Blizz is very spotty on the comms side, and in fact, yesterday they stated in the general forums that the current issues had nothing to do with the launch (I'd post a link, but of course, the WoW forums are unusable).

in the last 4 yrs blizz has had few major issues and they do work at fixing those. But they have had continuing issues throughout the last 4 years, especially on higher population servers, with lag and server instability. I am not trying to bust their chops about the downtime or the issues, but they have been very poor at communicating to the community about any of this. If they need to drop the servers for 2 days to prep for the money grab, do it up but bloody well tell people you are. These "everything is cooked, we'll update in a hour" posts, then the same thing when they update a few hours later, are getting quite old

And after 4 yrs of watching their forums implode anytime something goes wrong, I have come to veiw the forums in their current form as a self-defense mechanism. When the natives get too restless, hit the kill switch as it were.

I am really getting sick of the excessive maintenance.  I expected SOME downtime, but if you add up all the downtime on my server (which takes 5 hours longer than the others to bring up for some reason) for the last month, plus today, you get about 3-4 days of straight downtime.

Considering they rolled out this exact same content in beta without a hitch and even less downtime than live, I think it's a little excessive, even for a new expansion.

If they wanna do extended maintenance over the course of several days. They could do it without me complaining too much IF they told me that they needed to for X reasons. But to say servers will be up in an hour and not get an update for 5 hours and servers are still not up - is completely incompetent on their part. So stop being a sheep and blindly following without having any knowledge as to the problem that exists.

I've been playin for 3 years and I've never seen this kind of screwed up bassackwards issue. For a muti-billion dollar...dare I say it...corporation...to wait till the last minute to find such serious issues goes way beyond my scope of imagination. Can anyone say ENRON?   Naw maybe that's a bit harsh but come on Blizz. If ANYBODY in your corporation even HINTED at an issue maybe you should have looked at it more closely? Nothing screams arrogance like finding you have a serious if not fatal DB issue than after the fact eh?...Lets hope they learn from this grevious mistake.

Yes, it is important for everyone to go downstairs and sacrifice a animal to blizzard in thanks for them attempting to do their jobs....

Chill out man, no one forces people to play WoW, and no one forces blizz to make the damn game. If people gripe about it on a internet forum, how does this affect you? Do you get paid by them to monitor and squash dissent? If people want to be angry and complain, go to it. Downtime happens, but to pretend that blizz is doing us a favor is just rampant fanboi-ism and serves just about as much purpose.

Unless you just trolling with inflamatory remarks? The name calling also adds a lot of "street cred" to your post. Kudos.

Add to that that the official forum is totally UNACCESIBLE.  Dont tell me it's because too many peoples wants to get on it at 11 AM  Wednesday morning !

Not very surprising, after Windows/Microsoft released some pretty serious updates. :) Even Guild wars had its first downtime in... 3 years?

You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up.

Where do you think most people probably go when they cant get into the game?  Yeah the WoW forums.

No one cares which MMO's you are playing or have played. Nor does anyone care what your computer specs are.

And if I ran a company that had 11 million subs, I would imagine i would know this and plan accordingly.......

The ONLY time in the past four years that we HAVE had issues even remotely as bad as those of the last 2 weeks, was in the FIRST two weeks after the original release.

If I had to make a percentage estimate, I would say that the game runs flawlessly about 98% of the time, so...part of the reason I think people get so BENT when it's messed up, is that we've all been VERY spoiled by having a game that has a track record of running a lot more smoothly than any other MMO.

    Therefore, I blame Blizzard.  LOL

Sorry to read that OP, I can certainly relate to finaly getting some time to play only find the servers are down.

Do I think it's the end of the world and I'm cancelling my account, no.  Like others have said, I've faith in Blizzard to: 1. correct the issue, and 2. to compensate for lost time.  They've always done so in the past.

So, by your reasoning, they could have shut down servers from October 14th to November 21st completely and it would be OK, because they have a massive network.  Companies like AT&T and Comcast have much larger networks and many more customers who pay a lot less for their service,(on average), than WOW players, and I don't see THEM shutting down for days at a time.

MMO fans have bred into themselves a culture of acceptance for downtime, but in the current age, some companies could operate without it.  If they would update their technology properly, Blizzard could most certainly run the WOW without downtime.  In the global scheme of things, 11 million customers is NOT that much.  Beta had the exact same content and it ran smoothly with very few bugs.

I'm sure of that.  But it's a bit like buying a new car.  You car is guarantee, if something needs to be repaired, it's guarantee.   But it doesnt matter, peoples want their car to run without problems, not spend all their time in a garage even if the repair are free.

It's the same thing for WOW, i know they will give us compensation for the lost days, but that's not what peoples wants, they want a running game.
