Is it just me, or what's the point in paying another 1,000g just to fly in northrend? I already grinded the 5,000g just to fly an epic mount, so why not just allow us to use this mount in a new continent? I really don't see their point in the initial quest line at 77 to use the mount, or now the 1k gold.
Do you think it's just a way to reduce inflation as BC was easy as hell to make money? I heard the quests give much less $$ than in BC .. as I've yet to experience this since I've only played a bit more of an hour in Northrend.

They did this so that people wouldn't just jump on their flying mount and look at everything in northrend from the get go. Blizz stated that they want people to slowly discover the lands of northrend like people slowly discovered outlands.
As far as the gold concern, I haven't really noticed a change from the norm of outlands questing, but I haven't really paid much attention tbh. I started with around 80g yesterday and I logged off with 240g today. I do every quest I can though.
The decision is twfold:
Firstly Blizz stated they don't want people flying over the landmass and missing all the content they took so long painstakingly designing. By level 77 you'll have explored most zones by foot or mount.
Secondly, the 1000g is obviously a gold sink.
I don't even think the 1k is a goldsink. Quests in Northrend give proportionally more gold than those in Outlands. At least from my experience in beta.. the 1k at lvl 77 isn't even a drop in the bucket to what you have.
There are also a few fundamental shifts that players will notice with gold. In BC and Vanilla, it was almost always more profitable to take two gather professions. Blizzard has removed a lot of the BOP to endgame items in Wrath. I think people who are miners/smith or miners/engineer are going to be making a ton of gold. Double-gatherers will still make gold (since it's pure profit), but selling Hogs, or epic boe weapons/armor will be huge for crafters. Ironically, the only craftin profession I worrry about is inscription. I just don't think you will make very much money with it if you haven't already.
