This signed up maybe a couple of hundred thousand European players who already think they have cancelled and might not check their emails until after the next billing cycle in a few days.  Even if they do check their emails it's not clear from the email they sent exactly what they did.  I get emails all the time about games I don't play anymore, I normally don't even bother to read them.
Great way to make money though

It fairly simple, don't leave your credit card details stored on anything to which are not an active customer.

I don't even leave my card details stored on Amazon. Every time I buy something from, their site automatically saves my card details allegedly for my own convenience & eevry time I manually go back to my account & delete them afterward.

There is always a way of doing this, it just sometimes takes a few minutes to figure out how.

That's normally a good idea however, you can't remove your credit card details from the European website.  There's no way of even changing your credit card details.

That would be completely illogical as what would happen when one card expires & the number changes?

The website seems to allow you to create payment methods for your 'next subscription' which would be used instead of an automated renewal of the current one. In that way your credit card details would be changed, but the only way that I could find out how to remove my details seems to be to attempt suspend my account which I am reluctant to do when I am still happily enjoying the game.

I have however just emailed GOA explaining the comments on these forums & asked them how a person might remove their details to prevent future payments after cancellation.

I will keep you updated when & if I get a reply.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

So your suggestion to prevent them billing your credit card when you don't want,  is to create a 2nd subscription and then give them the details of a 2nd credit card?

Be sure to keep me updated on how that works out for you

I explained the suspend account button isn't really that scary on the other thread.

No, if you read what I said properly the comment about setting the 'Next Payment Method' was actually a response to your comment about not even being able to change your current card details. Be sure to keep me updated if still can't follow what I said.

I will answer your comment on the other thread about how it isn't that scary to contact customer services rather than run round shouting 'The Sky is Falling'.

The key objective is to "remove" your credit card details, or "change" as in supply inaccurate details to prevent unwanted rebilling.  It's not my fault you said you could remove or change your details on their site and now you are begining to realise you can't.  So lets face it, it's a tiny bit silly to suggest opening a 2nd subscription to people who just want to cancel and stay cancelled, now isn't it?

But honestly, I'm not that bothered, I'm not setup with a recurring subscription and you are.  Let's also try to remember, I'm not the one who wipes his credit card details from amazon   I don't need to contact GOA, apparently you are that concerned that you have already emailed them.

    thanks for posting this...!

i have read this thread before, but when i read it the first time i didnt think i had anything to worry about, since i went in and cancelled the automatic renewal of subscription... so i coudnt see why they should go and set it to renew my sub again, but they did!!

i just checked my email which is set on my WAR account, and i havent recieved any mail about this...

There is no way to delete my Credit Card info on my account, only way is to cancel automatic renewal of sub, this worries me, since they already resubbed me once now...

actually im thinking of closing my credit card, and get a new one from bank, just incase...

after i saw this thread again i figured i might aswell check it, since i got nothing else to do right now... thanks again for posting this..

    Your post

There's no way of even changing your credit card details.

    My reply

That would be completely illogical as what would happen when one card expires & the number changes? The website seems to allow you to create payment methods for your 'next subscription' which would be used instead of an automated renewal of the current one. Also 'Remove' & 'Change' are entirely different concepts. I never suggested using corruption as a form of removal, that seems to be your idea.

As I said before there is always a way of getting your credit card details removed & at least in the UK it is your legal right to do so. I haven't personally encountered a game/service where you can't do it yourself directly, but all you need to do is contact the company concerned & ask.

This isn't even the first time this issue has arisen, as last night I found an article on 'Turbine' which covered a 'Customer Services' exchange on exactly the same subject.

    http://www.mmocrunch.com/2007/10/31/turbine-to-users-we-own-your-cc-information/

The article is a year old & possibly 'Turbine' have adopted a more customer friendly approach since then, but the key point is that it is always possible to remove your card details & prevent future payments.

In the UK if you have specifically told a company that you no longer authorise payments then unless they can demonstrate that you still owe them money from before your communication, any further charging is seen as fraudulent & your bank is obliged to instantly refund the money. Even if you didn't send them a formal communication, you can simply dispute the transaction & once again your bank refunds the money instantly but the company concerned technically has a few weeks during which they can counter claim to attempt to get the money back again.

As long as you can demonstrate that you communicated your wishes clearly to the company concerned the procedure is fairly automatic. I noticed a few other people discussing cancellation of cards to avoid future payments, but just sending a formal communication to GOA & requesting an acknowledgement should be more than enough.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

I am here because i wasn't charged like many countless others. The guys whom i quoted is pure troll. he is blaming WAR and MYTHIC. Why? if GOA billing system is screwed how come its fault of WAR? next time before jumping the gun try to read carefully. Or maybe just look into the post history of the guy i quoted?

We get it really that he hates WAR. But to lynch the game at every single oppertunity and in every single topic just makes you a  troll. People who dislike something talk about it once or twice and than move on with there lives.

I am sure GOA is out to get you. I mean as if we don't know there history of mess ups. i am sure next they will sell your house and car too. Hide... GOA is coming.

14 posts by this troll and all the same bitching and whinning.  Posting on alternate accounts to bash wars is getting really old. Once again GOA billing system has nothing to with actual gameplay of WAR. And if you can't understand that maybe i should ask you. Why are you here again?

All he said was that he would have gotten charged too if it wasnt for this post, if he like WAR or not is not really relevant in this thread, if he think WAR will die, so what?! How does that affect you...?

The problem is not that people are trolling, whining, OR WRITING IN CAPS!!! :P the problem is people respond to it, which is exactly what they want... So to fight a troll just leave them to their boredom...

Of course its relevent. Its called derailing the actual topic. if you want to discuss about GOA billing system do that. But why to take the topic in other direction and start using it as a vent for your frustration with WAR? and don't worry i am not going to bash my head at same topic 14 times. I just felt its important to make it clear that its GOA fault and not Mythic. Moreover the state of billing system has nothing to do with quality of WAR.

If i had not read the same whinning in every single topic where i try to clear misunderstanding, trust me i would have not care to respond. But there is limit to everything.

    Good day,

this is a confirmed issue and it's been escalated to the teams involved who will investigate and deal with this urgently. For now, if you've cancelled your account subscription please log in and make sure it's the case. If it's been reactivated without your consent, do cancel it again. More information will be available on this tomorrow.

Apologies for anyone who's affected by this.

    -Magnus

That Magnus guy seems confused, he's asking people to log in and make sure billing is set to manual.

He hasn't mentioned the other idea from LondonMagus of registering a 2nd credit card and then emailing them to stop them billing the 1st credit card

He hasn't mentioned the other idea from LondonMagus of registering a 2nd credit card and then emailing them to stop them billing the 1st credit card

Are you being intentionally stupid or do you just not really understand basic English that well?

Get back under your bridge, your spot must be getting cold & I think the billy goats might arrive soon.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

But honestly, I'm not that bothered, I'm not setup with a recurring subscription and you are.  Let's also try to remember, I'm not the one who wipes his credit card details from amazon  I don't need to contact GOA, apparently you are that concerned that you have already emailed them.

Did you fail 'reading comprehension' at school or something?

    Your post

There's no way of even changing your credit card details.

    My reply

That would be completely illogical as what would happen when one card expires & the number changes? The website seems to allow you to create payment methods for your 'next subscription' which would be used instead of an automated renewal of the current one. In that way your credit card details would be changed, but the only way that I could find out how to remove my details seems to be to attempt suspend my account which I am reluctant to do when I am still happily enjoying the game.

You know everyone else is suggesting you login to your account and change your subscription billing back to manual.

Your idea is to give them the details of a 2nd credit card and then email GOA.

    'reading comprehension' comments aside, lol

That isn't my idea at all & if you really can't tell that after three explanations you must be fairly dim!

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

Hey correct me if I'm wrong but you are the guy saying you can edit your credit card details on the GOA website, even though posters in every EU WAR forum on the internet are saying that's just not an option.

When I pressed you for details on exactly how to do it, you weren't able to find out how to do it yourself, so you emailed GOA, possibly while muttering to yourself "it must be possible, it just must!".

This is obviously a mistake, and a serious one at that which we are investigating with urgency. I don't know how many are affected by this and I don't know if anyone has actually been charged erroneously but I hope to return with a more substantiated update on this tomorrow.

For now, we offer our sincere apologies to anyone who affected by this and further advice players to log in with their account on war-europe and make sure it's set up correctly.
