Gamespot is funny

They actually gave Age of Conan an 8.5 score...

These are the same people that gave Asheron's Call 2 an  8.3

Do these people get paid off for these scores?

Actually, the grader will get "less liked" by their higher ups in gamespot due to negativity towards a game which makes the gamemaker angry at gamespot which gives gamespot bad karma

Numerical values cannot represent complex opinions. Dont look at scores unless it is a flawless 10 or a flawful 1 where there is NO room for error or subjectivity.

You know something, I cannot even be sure whether you meant AC2 should have gotten a higher score or a lower one. People are different worlds. Cherish it.

A review is not about how you grade something. It's about perspective. I could read a well-written and well thought-out review regardless of whether I agree with the reviewer's conclusion or not. I myself would rate AC2 pretty high, while rating for example EQ1 low, while I know it's nowhere the "popular" view. There's nothing wrong with me grading them accordingly, as long as I put a well-worded perspective behind it all.

Some players seem to think neither the developers, nor the reviewers, nor the other players know anything about MMOs, that everybody but themselves are either nutjobs, or paid off, or just trolling. Get used to opinions. Variety is in their very nature.

AC2 got cancelled. That should tell you.

AC2 was a terrible game. It was an empty shell of a game that was no where even near what it should of been for an Asheron's Call 1 sequal. IF they would of made a true AC1 sequel the game would still be going strong right now.

And I was there when it did. Tells me nothing.

I don't like it as much as AC1, but still I found it quite good as well as an influence on today's MMOs.

I think you missed the point of his post.

what, so the reviewer doesnt have the same biased view of the game they are getting paid for their reviews? Just because a review isnt the same as your view on the game doesnt make it corrupt.

No, the game just isn't as bad as some people like to believe.

While Gamespot is notorious for giving advertisers better than deserved reviews(see Gertsmanngate, where their head editor was fired for giving Kane & Lynch a negative review), I think most of us gave AoC a good review for the first few weeks. After we found the bugs and empty content, that all changed. Don't let one sole review change your mind about a game. I personally use www.metacritic.com to get all the good and bad reviews before buying a game. When it comes to MMO's, you absolutely must try them, no review will give you the proper impression of the game.
