A month of Searching, and still havent found a Good PK MMORPG

WrathPkerWrathPker Member Posts: 26

Ok, first of all, im not much of a forum guy, but because of my recent problems finding a GOOD game, ive fallen upon this resource.

I am a past player of Runescape Classic (quit as soon as RS2, or the Now so called Runescape came out)

I also played Eudemons Online for a solid year.

And after disasters in both games, i am looking for a GOOD pking MMORPG.

Now if anyone played, or even remembers Runescape classic like i did, i would argue it was the Funnest Pking game ever.  No complicated controls, No Choppy retreats, RS classic was awesome.  Ya the graphics were terrible, but the game took what us Pkers liked to call SKILL.  There were certain ways you learned to pk that made you a good pker i.e.  catching, knowing how to manage prayer, food management, teams, pile jumping, and so on and so on.  I loved Runescape, i played it for 3 years, and i considered myself good at it.  Then when the current runescape came out, it sent all of us players who only liked to PK searching elsewhere.  I hate to grind, i hate doing pointless, timewasting quests, and i hate acting like im apart of a "game community" .  I played runescape for one reason which pretty much sums up my gaming experience.  I play solely to kill people and reap the satisfactions of that.

And so after i left Runescape sadly, i found a random game called Eudemons Online, and for those of you who played that, you learn that yes, there is alot of pking, but unless you have a thick wallet ( which i certainly dont) you cant get to a strong enough state to pk happily unless you grind away making money for hours upon hours, which i did, and completely hated.

So now, sorry for venting slightly, but i am asking, please, PLEASE, someone tell me a good game where i can go out and Pk happily, in a balanced system which requires SKILL!!!  If someone can direct me to that kind of game, i would love you for it.  Thanks guys!

Darkfall Online might be the dream game you are looking for. There are a lot of people both for it and against it. The people who are against it are mostly basing their arguments off the fact that the game was in development for a really long time (almost 10 years?), that it may be vaporware. But from the look of things, the game should release next month. Cause if it gets delayed again, the huge fan community will go nuts (imagine waiting for 8 years, yes some people did) and the company will crash and burn. Anyways search it up and see if its features are for you. Mind you it will be pay to play, like WoW.

Darkfall Online is what you're looking for.

Development has been about 5-6 years, not 10.

hmm alright thanks guys, ill look into it,

any other options? f2p would be nice.

  • WrathPkerWrathPker Member Posts: 26

it kind of sucks that there really isnt a "brass tacs" game about just pking.

i guess alot of gamers want alot more out of their games now a days, which is understandable, but to be blunt, i want a game where i get armor and weps, some way to heal, and i want to run around in the middle of a war and kill people.  might sound pretty intense, but its pretty basic.

I heard from someone Shadowbane might be what im looking for...

im downloading it now, anyone played it?

  • crunchyblackcrunchyblack Member Posts: 1,362

Shadowbane might be the game your looking for, however, be warned, there is a HUGE learning curve with shadowbane.  After you get over the ass backward controlls, youll most likely be fodder untill your second or third character, a bit much imo for a game with great pvp.

As far as darkfall goes, right now its nothing but hype, a few vids, and whatever the developer decides to say.  Word is that they are in open beta, but no one knows of anyone who is actually in it and there still is an element of "does this game actually exist" surrounding all the secrecy and near decade development time.

If your looking for f2p then shadowbane might be your only choice.  All the newer asian f2p games offer the best advantages for people who shell out big $ and it really wrecks pvp, unless you want to may way more than you would have for a p2p.  Also most of these games offer a completely unrealistic grind to endgame.  Anyway most of the f2p games dont really focus on pvp, except shadowbane.

So mabey your looking for a FPS instead, because right now the wow model of pve grind to endgame, followed by pvp of some type is the standard of the industry.

Hopefully darkfall turns out to be halfway decent and goes live in the next year, mabey that game will offer some good pvp, because if darkfall fails or doesnt go live soon, look forward to about 40 asian grinders using the wow template before the next decent pvp mmo comes out.

Alright, so i downloaded Shadowbane, and after the endless tactics of actually being able to play it, i found the game terrible.  I only played for about 3 hours, but i honestly hated it.  The controls are terrible, and i find myself running around in the middle of nowhere, not knowing where to go to meet people, get any good gear, or anything of that matter.  Maybe if i could grasp more concepts, i would enjoy it, but its seems like that would take me way too long.

If it comes to P2P i would be willing to go out and buy a game and launch it that way, but monthly payments are out.  Im a college student, and to be honest, id rather by a 30 bomb of keystone as opposed to buying a month of a video game.

Im curious if there is anyone who used to play Runescape classic and was a PKer.  I know you're out there.  If it came down to it, and they launched Runescape classic again, THAT is the game i would play.

Tried Warhammer online? If that didn't work for you, wait for Darkfall and Aion.

Only F2P game worth talking about is Runes of magic.

  • WrathPkerWrathPker Member Posts: 26

i havent tried Warhammer, but in my research i heard that its lame after lvl 20 or something.  I could try it, but if i hate it, thats 50 dollars gone for no reason.

I might give Runes of Magic a shot, ill check it out now

I honestly would like anyone who played Runescape Classic and was a pker to chime into this thread, those of you who played that know exactly what im looking for

    EVE Online?

If you really want to ruin someone's day eve's pvp might be for you. Be warned, however, the game isn't for everyone, but those who like it seem to like it a lot.

  • WrathPkerWrathPker Member Posts: 26

i think i tried EVE a long time ago...

i guess to be honest i play the Noob role very well when i first get into a new game.  Im typically the guy you see running around not know what the F**k hes doing.  So i guess it would come down to whatever game i could get even a little direction in.

Like today when i tried out Shadowbane, i was so lost, i wanted to make a snowman because i literally was in the middle of Nowhere surrounded by snow..

Isnt Eve p2p monthly Subs. anyway?

Of course the first response was darkfall, a game no one has ever played. So, why not check out a pvp server for WoW or EQ2, or get into War (yawn), or even L2 (where it will take you a year to level to anything capable of standing upi for yourself after a PK). Or get into EvE, join a corp, and skill up AFK for two years.

    Yeah, right. Good luck...

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

so have any suggestions? i mean i agree with you.  I really never did any MMO hopping, i found a game and stuck to it, and i guess i got lucky because i relatively liked the games i played (Runescape classic, and Eudemons).

I say somebody makes almost a duplicate of Runescape Classic with the main emphasis on Pking (which is basically what it became)

But there has to be something atleast mildly similar

**Edit**  -- Anyone know anything about Shaiya?

  • GidSlackGidSlack Member Posts: 173

Do you know that Runescape launched pvp worlds about a month ago?

    kotaku.com/5063765/runescape-launches-pvp-worlds

I think these pvp servers are supposed to emulate the old pk experience, but I can't tell you how much of that is true.

Guild Wars is supposed to be one of the best pvp MMO's.  No subscription fee, but you have to buy the game.

If you like Realm vs Realm pvp you might check out Regnum Online.  This f2p has a war zone where anything goes (but there is no corpose looting -- something ex-Shadowbane player always ask about in the RO forums).  The emphasis in RO is on team fights, but some classes are good for solo pk.   You need to be about lvl 30 to compete in pvp.  You can get there through quests, but after that it is PvE grind to the level cap (50).

  • WrathPkerWrathPker Member Posts: 26

you must be talking about runescape going to pvp servers for the recent game.

the runscape game im talking about is from like 4-5 years ago before they even went 3d

    Shaiya

    This classic-style MMORPG offers players:

PvE, PvP, RvR: The best of all game worlds in one game. Slay monsters, battle friends in duels, smite opposing players in PvP, and fight for control of the continent in Realm versus Realm combat. To the winner of RvR goes the blessing of their Goddess and all the bonuses that includes!

Lmao! That was too funny man, thanks a lot.

You don't wanna pay and you wanna pk and don't care about anything else than pk.

I'd say the perfect game for you to play is on a ultima online free shard.

If you live in us i'd advise to play on uogamers: hybrid

if you live in eu i'd advise to play on defiance uo:r

I can't play uo freee shards anymore it's just too old and not the same thing anymore.

But I think it sound like you would like it.

A friend of mine got rather nostalgic the other day and started playing an old MMORPG that we used to play, it's called "Dransik" and has a pvp that looks alot like the one in Runescape, where you loose your items if you die.

The graphics are really "old school" but the gameplay is awesome and the game f2p, just something to look into while waiting for Darkfall.

    http://www.dransik.com/

Edit: It might be a bit old for some ppls taste, and the number of players is probably low, on the other hand it doesnt take long to install it, like 5 sec

I have not read everyone elses replies to this as I already know what they will say. People will direct you to EVE and say "Darkfall is coming out soon". Am I right? (I actually genuinely havent looked)

Basicly you will find that apart from EVE there are no decent player-killing mmos at all. For some reason people get upset by having their their immortal avatar killed in an online game and as a result games-developers have pretty much been releasing carebear games for the past 10 years.

If I were you I would ignore mmos if you are looking for a decent game to kill people in. Oh and no WAR doesnt count as it isnt a "good" player-killing game. Of course this is just my opinion but the OP did also state that he doesnt have a thick wallet so he would be pretty irritated if he wasted his money on WAR.

Well besides Lineage 2 (which I think is an exceptional game in many ways) there is Archlord.

Not only is it free to play but they just released a hardcore pvp server. You can pvp on all servers but I think this one has some light looting or something like that.

Please don't even say the word "Archlord", It's the worst F2P Game ever...The movement man! the movement..

  • gan3fgan3f Member UncommonPosts: 274

Cabal is F2p and if you know how to combo and fadestep and move well you can easily kill higher lvl people. the game focus is more about your Skill levels rather then your Character lvl. And you raise your skill lvls by using your skills and comboing your moves.. i found it fun for a f2p pvp game.

The movement is absolutely fine. I think what you object to is the WASD. It's an Asian game and most Asian games tend to favor point and click. The WASD seems added as an afterthought. Anyone who has played and one well with Lineage 2 will be able to play Archlord.

The point and click works extremely well in Archlord. Just as it does in Lineage 2.

For a pk/pvp game that is free to play it is extremely good. However, if one doesn't like grind games then of course it won't be for them.

Wow guys awesome, and thank you to everyones suggestions.  I will try all of your suggestions.

    so far i have tried:

Shadowbane: Was very lost, hated the controls, and when i teleported somewhere i died instantly, had no idea how, so after about 3 hours of play and leveling to lvl 15, i bagged it.

Eve:  Liked the idea of space combat at first, but once again got pretty lost, i guess im looking for more of the medieval war type game.

Im about to try Atlantica online, and whether i like it or not, im going to try everyone elses suggestions.  Once again thanks, and if anyone else has any more ideas for me, feel free to let me know.  Ill let you guys know if i find something that fits.

  • WrathPkerWrathPker Member Posts: 26

Archlord and Atlantica have both failed to give me anything fun.

Atlantica looks like it could be cool, but its not the kind of pvp im looking for, and also i dunno about the turned based combat system, could get very annoying and slow..

     **** EDIT ****

HANG ON.  I think i may have just found a really sweet game.  Im downloading it now called Crowns of Power and it sounds right up my Alley.
