To those that disliked this game at first or read bad reviews and are avoiding it

I tried this game at launch and I hated it; thought it was terrible. And even the reviews that said the game wasn't that great, I thought were too lenient. But I decided to try this game out again just two weeks ago for some reason, and holy crap... this game wasn't just 'not terrible', it was actually pretty damn fun. TBH, I dont remember exactly what I hated so much about it at launch, since it was a long time ago, but Turbine has done well in fixing it up. It's really too bad this game was as bad as it was at launch, that a lot of people will not be giving it a chance at this point in the games 'life'.

So this post is mainly to say just that; give the game at another chance (or at least a chance after reading so many bad reviews). I am not saying its the greatest game ever or you have to like it, its just a lot better than before. Turbine released this game 2yrs early to say the least, IMO

Dunno, isn't it instanced a lot? If so, why shouldn't I just continue to play Guildwars instead of paying a lot of money for this game?

I think both the instances and that they didn't use a better world like Forgotten realms or Krynn turns many players off.

Still, I have just read a few reviews and didn't try it for myself so mybe I could be persuaded.

Well, the instancing does make sense in this game as you have to solve riddles, disarm traps and use different strategies depending on you group setup to get through the dungeon. Also, xp is rewarded for completing a quest, not for killing x goblins (that gives xp as well, but not a lot, as far as I remember).

in a sense DnDO is pretty close to a PnP experience because it is NOT about grinding on mobs but about solving puzzles and crawling dungeons with a party. Now, some people do not like that and wanted DnDO to be an EQ/WoW clone, but I think we do have enought of those already. All in all it's a decent game, but didn't have enough content when it first launched. Also, there where no outdoor areas at all which annoyed many people. The dungeons/quests are probably one of the best I have seen in an MMO. It lacks in other departments that define a MMO tho - like the "massivley"..

mmm, yes, Guild Wars. Awesome game, played it for 3 years  :)  But yes, DDO is heavily instanced but it plays very differently than GW.

It's only $15 a month. That's really not that much money at all. Just try the free 10-day trial and decide if you think its worth, I think it is :)

There's absoutely no reason to quit playing Guildwars if you like it.  To summarize the differences:  DDO is a Tactile personlized strategy based game that requires critical thinking to overcome many situations where as Guildwars plays like a point-and-click game that focuses on button mashing.  I'm not saying Guildwars isn't fun, it's just different.

I can nitpick about DDO till I turn blue but it will not take away the fact that it's the best strategy based MMO's I've ever played besides the pre-cu version of Star Wars Galaxies.  Complaining about the Realm of the setting doesn't do much to criticize other then to express bias, yet I would have also been more welcoming if it used a more established setting besides the one that Wizards of the Coast insisted on; Greyhawk for teh win!!

The only reason to play DDO is for the dynamics in character creation, dynamic strategies, interdependancy on team work and social skills along with personalized content that is some of the best directed content availble in an MMO.  If you're looking for free, there's plenty of other options.

Kind of fun yes, But at the times I play (West Aussie Time) there just isn't many people on, if at all, at least on the EU servers. I could never really get into it though, I prefer face to face D&D I think

Sick of playing Entropia Universe? Want to quit, but don't want your hard earned money to vanish? Give your items to ME :-)

DDO is the most under-rated MMO out there. It is truely unique, and deserves at least a try at the trial.

The game is much better now than at launch, and is getting better. While the modules may be spaced far apart, remember that new content is included in DDO. So, for a subscription, you continually recieve updates w/o another fee.

I loved this game at launch and dont remember exactly why i quit, but every now and then i will resub and i cant find a group when a group is absolutly needed. The ideas in this MMO make it totaly rad though.. on my turbine accounts it says this game is 9.99 a month...is that true?

I keep coming back to DDO a lot. It reminds me of the C= days with D&D and AD&D (Krynn) days.

They offered a 6 month Subscription for 9.99 a month about 6 months ago, not sure otherwise. $60 Dollars for a 6 month subscription on a game that you can purchase for $10 is pretty damned good.  Not to mention that as a new player there's so much content that it deffintely keep you busy for six months.

To our Aussie homie, have you tried playing on the Western servers?  DDO Korea plays here/there and as being a member of The Older Gamers (.com) I think AU/US play times overlap nicely enough to allow for a little more of a community between our continents.

If you can get on the US DDO, you will like Khyber server. We have alot of Aussies who are very active. I log onto the game at varying hours day/night and I always have a group I can get in and it never fails for me here, "Hey Mate! Right, so we are in yadda, yadda."

Why does every Aussie I run with start the conversation with "Hey Mate! Right, so ....." Is this learned in school or is the cultural equivalent of US "Wassup?"

I will admit that I played DDO for a short bit about 3 months ago and enjoyed my time there.  It's a great strategy game with friends, and to be honest, it is actually a fun game solo at times.  I had a blast trying to complete some missions solo to have my SPs run out just before I got done or something like that.

I'd say that it is an excellent pve game for those that like the old days of pnp D&D.  That said, if you prefer to the typical EQ / WoW type dungeon crawl, planning out your skill and wand use for a dungeon in DDO is going to feel tedious.

One couldn't have put it better indeed! That's exactly what I felt about DDO when I decided to take a fresh look at it a couple of days ago.

Argonnessen is the server most-like Khyber (or Khyber's most-like Argonnessen).  We have a fair share of Aussie and Kiwis, as well as some Japan, heaps of military and some German & French (and of course the brits, canadians, etc).  Either server would be great for the Pac-Rim players.
