Why is it now adays all kids get to watch is the I.Q destroying shows like Spongebob, or the other mindless crap on nickelodeon. Anyone remember the golden age of nickelodeon? You had shows like "Are you afraid of the Dark?" that are still scary to this day. You had cartoons with real intellectual value like "Rockos Modern Life" that gave you life lessons and taught you about the world in a way appropriate for both the adults and the kids. You also had classics like "Salute your Shorts" or "Hey Dude!" that had their own style and were not just the usual "Father, Mother, Brother, Sister" comedy shows you see on Televsision now adays, with the same reused plotlines and set up. You had shows about Superheroes that had problems just like everyday people with "The Secret World of Alex Mack" and crazy monolouge induced teen shows like "Clarissa explians it all". Anyone else remember these shows, that both Adults and kids watched and enjoyed?

No, that was after my time. Bring back the unedited Tom & Jerry cartoons.
Most of the kids shows seem like a just endless program for advertisers new toys. The plots seem mostly the same disney style with little surprise in out come of events. Bratty kids if school bully and or girls that are the in and everyone else is out ..... Very little creativity on these disney canned programs...
What i would recomend for parents esepcaily with young children go to half price books get a bunch of dvd from the older made cartoons and just plop those in.
I was watching some of the newer cartoons and just did not see what was cartoony about them
I really don't think it ever got much better than this for me. hehe
The Banana Splits
yo gabba gabba is an instant classic. no idea what the shows about, but with a regular appearace from the diabolical biz markie? cant beat that.
Is invader zim on the 90's list? That's the only show and Hey Arnold! i am watching on nick.
Rocko's Modern Life was classic! Anyone remember Danger Mouse?

First off I love Spongebob! But I agree many of the nick. shows are just plain bad n pointless. Aside from spongebob, I don't let my own children watch much of nickelodeon. There are far better kids shows n stations to watch than that crap.
Salute Your Shorts was the greatest show to ever grace the airwaves of that network...Rocko is still funny to this day as well

Rocko, Ren and Stimpy, Doug, even Rugrats(Before the Movies).
I love invader Zim! One of my much-younger ex-gf's got me hooked on it. Not like Chris Hanson younger though...
Got all the Invader Zim DVDs.
Trade in material assumptions for spiritual facts and make permanent progress.
Nickelodeon never met a program that they couldn't ruin. In the last decade they have had all of two shows that were 'good', Invader Zim and Avatar: The Last Airbender. The first the canceled, I assume because adults liked it more than the kiddies. The second they let wither and rot, giving it a poor time slot and irregular season scheduling. By the last season the writing had deteriorated to grade school levels. I heard M. Night Shyamalan bought the movie rights to Avatar, so maybe they didn't think the series mattered any longer, whatever.
Yes, Nick sucks, especially Spongebob. That show is mind-numbingly stupid. It is so dumb it actually sucks intelligence from neighboring channels. I morn the generation that grows up watching this dreck.
Back in my day, Nickelodeon was basically all about You Can't Do That On Television.
And now I feel really old....
As our generation grows older we need some IQ depleting shows to go along with our IQ depleting habits of smoking pot and binge drinking while making us laugh meanwhile, nickelodeon understands this and develops shows like Spongebob specifically for this. I must say they have accomplished their goal fairly well...
We must protect our children from violent video games cartoons, because children watch cartoons to get educated, right?
It's just a cartoon, get over it.
spongebob was actually developed with MTV in mind....but Nick ended up getting the show, they made some...modifications to its content to fit the younger audience.
