360 Ruined my Gears of War 2 Disc....

I have had it scratch discs before because i moved it while on but I guess my gf knocked it while it was on today and it's got a scratch around the edge of the disc.... (If anyone has does this before you know where it is/ what it looks like.)

I haven't even finished the game yet...

I don't know what to do, I know those stupid disc repair machines don't work. (Disc DR or whatever)

I called Gamestop and Blockbuster and they said they don't have these phantom "disc repair machines" I've read about.

I don't want to powersand my gears of war 2 disc as I saw in youtube video. I would totally just ruin it more.

I found this site: But it totally looks sketchy and if you read the fine print it says they can break your discs and not be held liable ( i thought the part about how they can change the terms at any time without prior notice, less then reassuring) This seems like the silver bullet ias long as i can find someone who has used them and says they are legit.

I have tried toothpaste and it did nothing (do i need a special kind of toothpaste?)

PLease someone help, I can't toss around 70 bucks for video games often and it really Does it need to totally dry?

bums me out I don't get to finish the game... and I lost so much money.  Optical discs is possibly the worst data medium of the century, i cant wait till everything is downloaded.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Have u tried a local USED CD store?   The one in my town charges five bucks to use this WATER BASED disk restore.  looks like a small microwave and takes 5 min.  worked on a few DATA dvd's i've had.  might be worth looking into.

Our normal (not 360) Xbox ruined my Ghost in the Shell DVD.

I'm buying PS3 for our next console. I'm not too fond of anything Xbox. Not a fangirl reaction or anything, just upset it ruined a brand new DVD, my DVD player never ever did that.

They do work on just scratches. But not every time.

They take a layer of carbon from the CD so the scratches dissapear and the light doesn't get reflected the wrong way.

    Dvneo makes this:

Like the machines, it works, if...your CD is lightly scratched.

UPDATE:  I was using wront toothpaste gonna see what happens in the meantime tho:

Hollywood Video will repair these for free.  Blockbuster doesn't carry the equipment but HV does.

Some developers (like EA) will replace your disc for 10 bucks.  I hear other Devolpers will do it for even less.

Micrososft has a disc repair solution but it costs 20 bucks and its only for games they published.

Hollywood video looks like the best bet. Thank you all for your input.  If they don't work I'm going used cd store, then i'll try those mail-in guys. Wish me luck.  I'll update.

BTW:  The disc damage is called the "perfect circle scratch" if you call microsofts tech support they will not replace the disc if it has this type of scratch they know that you bumped it while playing.  Although they will repair your xbox for free so it doesn't happen again.

Maybe its a sign from god that you should stop playing cookiecutter FPS', alas if only it happened to your Halo discs.

Gears of War is not an FPS

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

One of our previous X360's happend to crack my Lost Planet disc, about a month before taking it to MS. During that time I was top 10 in the world for Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. Japanese was always thrilled to play with me and I had so many haters that it was unreal. When I first picked up that game, that's the day I started to get negetive feedback. Don't hate the player, hate your skills.

I know Microsoft has a disc replacement program for a small fee, Gears of War 2 is published by Microsoft Game Studios so it should be alright.

I personally suggest you do that instead of messing with the disc.

NOTHING will get you bad feedback faster than playing Gears of War. I never really swear or act impolite while playing games yet even my feedback is currently 53% positive, 47% negative.

Somebody thought you stole his kill? Bam, negative feedback. Disconnect? Bam, negative feedback. One of your team members has a big mouth? Yup, you're the one thats going to get negative feedback as well.

I received 90% of my feedback from gears of war players.

geez...  I've never heard of so much trouble!  xbox eats disks?  games get you flamed just for playing them?

I've not had any such experience with my ps3 or any game on it.

When all else fails there is always the Brasso solution as well. This can ruin disks so it should be used as a last resort. I've brought several CDs back from the brink with this however I've never tried it on an XBox CD. It works just like the Toothpaste method only with Brasso Metal polish. Make sure you use only light pressure when polishing and make very sure you get all of the Brasso off before you try it in the player. As I said before however this should only be used if your choices are Brasso or the garbage can.

yeah its happened to me a couple times, and i think anybody who stands up their xbox is either retarded or dont know the risk they're taking. If you lift up your xbox or if it falls (if its standing) then it will scratch your disc. Fortunetly for me it happened when gamestop still had their game insurance, so i was able to get new games for free.

I have this stuff called Scotch CD Scratch remover and polisher. This stuff will fix 99.9% of anything you throw at it. Really it looks and smells like car wax. But I had a cd get stuck in a car player once. The only way I could get it out was stick a car key in there and pry it out. It had one hellish scratch that you can clearly see through. I put this scotch stuff on and the disc worked fine and I still listen to it 10+ years later.

Here is a link. Not sure if you can find it cheaper or not. But this is the packaging if you want to try finding it. But this little 17 dollar bottle will last a very long time.

I stand my xbox up but thats because its in a media closet thing. When ive had it outside it ive always laid it down after ruining one disc shortly after it came out.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
