When I read things like this, I just facepalm as it shows the prejudice that people have when it comes to people without jobs. Guess what, people aren't as lazy as you like to think. It's not fun to be without a job, I know no one what wants to be without a job for longer periods of time. Having free time all day long might seem fun at first, but after a few weeks, it wont be so funny anymore and this applies to alot of people I think. It's not as easy to get a job as you like to think, it all really depends on where you live (Which affects which jobs there is and if there is any at all), your looks (When it comes to interviews, looks, speech, body language and such matters more than your grades in school), contacts (Knowing people that can put in a good word for you helps alot, you'll probably get a job even though there are people with better grades and qualities seeking the same job) as well as earlier job experience. I know it's easy to just lump it all together and say everyone is lazy who can't get a job, but it's not as easy as you think, especially when you're a young teenager with no earlier experience with interiews, jobs and such. Not everyone has a car either which means that you can't always get a job at the other side of town.
Our entire society is on the back of fixed-income, wage-earning Americans. We once were a country of farmers, small business owners, and so forth. We were innovators. From Benjamin Frankling to Thomas Edison - actually, George Washington was the first to employ crop rotation on his land. He not only was a farmer but had multiple small businesses.
Today, when people get pedigrees and want to work for Fortune 500 companies is that is where the money is. The Willie Sutton rule, - why did you rob banks? That is where the money is. The tax incentives, bonus, ESOP (employee stock options plans) and so forth are where people make money. Most money is in trusts, where it is free from taxation, and also in offshore accounts. The reason why the accounts are not repatriated, or the capital, into the United States is - taxes. Many wealthy people know execute wills in foreign countries to avoid the costs associated with probate, and taxes, in the United States - you can create multiple testamentary trusts through a will as well.
The point? The point is that in our society, if the workers stopped working, the government stops taxing - and it goes broke. Of course we need people to think they will "get rich" by working hard; the harder they work with their fixed incomes, the more taxes they pay. We want worker bees. We, honestly, need worker bees in this country.
Have you heard of the plum book?
Let's say you were politically connected. You get get someone elected. Well, Barack Obama, and every new President, will literally about about 3,000 to 7,000 new hires for every new administration. You get federal salary, federal days off, federal benefits, and so forth. Non-contributory retirement plans, meaning only the taxpayer contributes to your pension, and you also get options for contributory plans.
The salaries are not good, but when you evaluate the perks and benefits, it is a great gig.
It is not that you are lazy.
It is that you are not connected. The best jobs you do not apply for, per se, but basically arrange to get hired pre-interview. The interview is supposed to be just ... a motion... breaking the ice. Not a weed-out opportunity for the employer.
I do not know how you guys do it. Those who work like 8 hours plus a day, five days a week.
I have never been "fully employed" my entire life, and I managed over ten million dollars in assets while in Business School. I worked, ironically, less than when I managed that portfolio then ever before. In fact, the only time I have worked "hard" was grad/prof school.
Your hard work will only take you so far. There is no good answers or advice other than saying what you already know - be a fireman. My God, go and be a fireman. Or a doctor. Fireman work one day, get off two, and then get a week-long vacation every month. You are off of work more than you work, and while at work you are eating good food, working out, and watching football. Doctors are rich, and you have tremendous flexibility with your hours. One of my doctors does not work on Monday or Fridays ,and he is a professional runner in his spare time. He like does all these marathon things like where people are sponsored by corporations to do it. It is his hobby he has so much time.
You need to do self-discovery and do what YOU love, not what others love, and pursue it.
Life, the pressures you experience now, only get more pronounced as you get older. And you will find that you "need" more things and "need" money even more as you get older. Your personal expenses rise. You might think you will just get an apartment, small one, internet access, and you will be set. Oh, no, not in this country. Not when inflation will eat-away at your earnings, and savings.
You need to jump on that worker machine and give it your all. HOpefully, when you jump, you jump onto something that you love and enjoy doing!
Now that I look past, it seems I've misread as neither you or the one you qouted were talking about lazy people, my bad there. I just keep seeing many people, both here in Sweden where I live and alot of americans online that claims that the majority of the people without a job are just a bunch of lazy sods which kinda gets tiring, because once people start saying that people without jobs are lazy, they'll start stereotyping on what kind of person the jobless man is (Of course, people that play videogames gets pushed into this cathergory).
Anyways, I'm not going to argue with almost anything in your post as I agree with most of it, except with the weeding out. An employer has to weed out, more or less between all the applications and thus goes for looks, earlier working experience and such as they want to be sure they're hiring someone that will work hard, or at least good. That's the only thing I disagree with though.
I suppose for a regular job the interview is, appropriately, a weed-out process.
Edit: I actually got a regular job, once, while in high school. R o f l. Two of my friends got one, and I just went along with them. I did an interview, did not get an offer, but then as the interview was ending, I explained that my other friends are going to work here, and that I was travelling with them, etc. and then I was "hired." I quit three weeks, maybe two, later. I was going crazy. And as I was leaving, this place that did not want to hire me, maybe I was 15, they tried to offer me a promotion to get me to stay. Here, at 15, a supervisor when all these supervisors were college students. Anyway, just a funny story. lol.
The job you want you probably do not apply for it unless it is a matter of course. You want to get hired, already, before you apply and interview.
The job you want, most likely, will not even be posted somewhere as available. You want, if you are going to play this worker game, skills so advanced and specialized that wealthy people make the job for you.
You need to evaluate your skill set, desires, goals, etc. Just applying for jobs is going to lead to trouble.
Independents are on the right track? Who? The green party? Don't make me laugh. The Libertarians? Ahahaha! Maybe the good ol' constitution party? Wow. Independents, on the right track. Their train is a permanent fixture on the station platform!
The Green Party is not the Independent Party. The Green Party is the Green Party. Learn your politics first before you reply
Um, independents are any party not in the big two. I think you need to understand the terminology better There is no "Independent Party." You could be referring to the American Independent Party, but then you'd fail to define what the hell you were talking about than expecting us all to read your mind (and sorry, even if I could, I don't like magazines).
