Ummm when did SOE take over the Offical forums

Has anyone else notice that the mods sense of humor has gone completely away?  I understand that the Official forums could get out of hand sometimes, but recently when a couple Guild Members went to log in they got a message that they had too many warnings/Suspensions on the forums and the latest suspension included an inability to log in to the game while suspended from the forums.

When did this start? is this even legal that they can continue to charge you yet you are unable to log in because you Trolled their fourms?

idk when it started but the forums should be seperate from the game. it is wrong to suspend someone from the game cuz of what they did in the forums.  now yes some ppl are very annoying and should be banned but the game and forums shouldnt be linked together. if im paying i should be able to play unless i did something IN GAME to get myself banned

  • todeswulftodeswulf Member Posts: 715

Yeah when one of them contaced Blizzard they told it was a new policy..I'm just wondering how log it has been in effect and why they didn't bother to tell folks about it, personally I stay off the forums....but  a Ninja policy like that Ain't  cool in the slightest

I agree, but the sad truth is it's Blizzards game, and they can do what they want in terms of banning people, as im pretty sure in their TOS or EULA it mentions that they can revoke gameplay privilages for any reason they want (Not going through and reading/citing it, im not THAT bored).

The forums and the game are actually covered by the same set of rules (altho obviously you most likely won't see people running 3rd party programs to post faster... ).

    Legal?

The consumer has the option to do a charge back and not pay.  Then of course the account will be banned.  However, it is an option as a consumer.

The boards are private and belong to blizzard just as the game servers.  When you add:

"they got a message that they had too many warnings/Suspensions on the forums and the latest suspension included an inability to log in to the game while suspended from the forums."

So obviously this isn't an issue they just developed.  They have an ongoing history of violating the forum rules...

Maybe they should have stopped after a few warnings and/or suspensions?

I mean one has to *ponder* wtf the problem is exactly... it doesn't seem to be on Blizzard's end.

    *edited to add*

It seems most likely that Blizzard has a policy in place that when you keep taking up resources to be dealt with on the forums.  They eventually suspend you from BOTH the forums and the game.. to try and get the message through....

ya i just hope they dont pull a soe and start banning ppl like mad.  they can take a hit in numbers but one day when their numbers start dropping and the game dies they might wish they had treated the paying customers a little better. not that im not saying their doing a bad job now all the stuff i have bought from blizzard has been well made and i have had no reason to bash them, but now that their a bigger company they might start acting like it then we'll end up with another EA

Yeah I know they should have stopped, but Blizzard has a history of letting Trolling on the forums slide... it just seems to to be the further  Homogenizing of Blizzard,  WoW has gotten easy cheesy..anything slightly offensve  is quickly removed  SC2 and D III has these bright cheery graphics.  I may be wrong but it looks to me like Craptivision is calling all the shots now, and Blizzard that we knew is long gone.

I'm just concerned that a lot of the LOL moments that we have all had on the forums and in game are gone..... Really I could see this happen if my guys linked to porn or said somthing racist...but one called a guy a Fing Idiot and bypassed the profanity filter so he could read it and the other basically did a Rickroll...now they can't play the game for two weeks.  I'm sorry that's harsh. that is SOE harsh.

Banning people from forums is a execise in futility. Banning people from a game gets their attention.

Zymurgeist dude..I have always respected your vewipoint on things...but honestly do you really think what I described qualifies my guildies as Asshats?  All I'm saying is a nice policy update notice could have saved a lot of this, I'm sure if a lot of folks got a hey guys...we have decided to start doing this, a lot of the stuff would have never hapend in the first place.

Unfortunately, i believe that warning comes in the form of the EULA/TOS you scroll down and click agree to anytime they do a new patch. Who reads it? I know i don't, but thats the defense Blizzard has.

I know...it kind of puts us in a bind though as we are really healer light right now, and had several runs planned. I also have other guildies saying we so do somthing as well because what they did has really hurt the entire guild

So any Guild Leaders out there Question in this situation do you take action against the players as well? Considering their vital role in upcoming Raids or do you just regroup and move on?

    I agree completely.

People need to try real hard to get banned. I mean, If I had a warning and I didn't think it was justified, well, then I would just shut up and stop from posting altogether. If this would make my gaming experience less enjoyable, well, best way to protest is not to pay - id cancel my sub.

Plus, I do not think that Bliz would perma ban someone just because that someone is stupid (or young) enough to go over the warning limit with his trolling posts. I think they ban for 3 days for stuff like that. Which is reasonable IMO. They perma ban hackers, cheaters, goldsellers and anyone who blatantly disregards the rules and the warnings and negatively affect other people's gameplay.

I would not want to play in a group or even on the same server with goldfarmers, hackers, spammers or people who disrespect others.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Well like I said..it isn't perma ...it's two weeks,  I could see a three day or even a week, but two?  I just don't think the punishment fits the crime.

This crack down is long over due, they have let trolling slide for so long its sickening.

They want to set an example thats why they are being so harsh.

So if some one knowly breaks a rule... you would rather him get away with it?

Whether we like it or not the Forums and game are link with the same set of rules. What applies in game also applies to the forums.

If it is in the NDA, they sure can ban them. Since I really don't know what they wrote in the forum, I have hard to really have a strong opinion about the whole thing.

Some people tend to spam with rascist and other shady stuff and banning them is really not a bad idea. Just writing some stupid stuff on the other hand shouldn't be a reason to be banned from the game (even if I don't mind if Blizz keep an eye out for them in the game.

It is a hard question, on one hand we have the freedom of speach, a very imposrtant principle, on the other hand, if they start to harass other players a lot, the game will suffer badly and others will start that crap too.

If you actually could show us the posts they got banned for, things would be a lot more simple.

Bypassing a filter, even though it's been said forever, that in game the filter isn't a excuse for swearing, and bypassing it is a quick ticket to a warning/ban.  This is pretty dang stupid. The forums are still part of the same company.

And a rickroll is just spam and just general stupid stuff.  This isn't their first warning.  It's their fault for being bloody clueless and keep doing it.

"oh i've got warned, lawlz who cares time to keep doing it!"

Frankly i hope they keep up the good work, the forum will be a lot better once we get rid of their type.

Hmm... two weeks does sound a bit excessive How many warnings were there? Is it the first ban? in any case, you can't really complain because technically, you haven't bought the game, you are just kinda renting to play it. You broke the "law" and are being punished for it. IF you were punished unjustly, you can try and reason with the GM. If that fails, try to reach a supervisor or maybe even call their customer service. I work as a CSR and very often I am able to help people ONLY becuase their first words were "Hi. I have a problem, could you help me please?" and not "What the hell are you guys doing there...". Be nice and polite, and you never know, maybe they will unban you before the term is over.

Lets not jump to conclusions here. We dont know the whole story. Maybe the person in question did go out of line on multiple occasion insulting everyone. Or maybe it was fairly innocent, like a sarcastic post that caught a mod in a bad mood. Or maybe a mistake. Those things happen.
