Haven't played the game yet, but my speculations on what's happening...

So... from what I've gathered... is that Open RvR is NOT what this game is delivering. You CAN ORvR, however, people don't do to the lack of rewards. The best way to level, and get PvP in, is the Scenario RvR's. So, this game is just like Guildwars, with the POSSIBILITY although unlikely chance, or ORVR?

If this is the case, I am probably going to enjoy this game, and have ever MORE fun when they fix the ORvR. I was a HUGE fan of Guildwars. If the scenario's CAN be joined in as a team and it's not always randomized, that solidifies my oppionion.

So, if all that is true... the game should be fun, and it doesn't sound like they've made it so the game CAN'T be repaired to include better ORvR.

Similar to a lot of the hate posters in WAR-General, RvR just needed some time to mature. Unlike them, it's actually happening.

The game IS FUN to alot of us. You and others really should take 90% of the complaints and spoiled kiddo whineage on these boards with a grain of salt. Sure there is some constructive criticism and I aplaud that but the MMORPG WAR forum is missing the presence of those who are actually enjoying the game and have not been banned from warhammeralliance.com by ranting.

And there are loads of us; people playing the game and having fun. Apart from those (like me) who have the urge to defend the game because they love it and feel that the average MMORPG.com thread isn't representing the truth, your average WAR player doen't have any reason to troll these boards; they are playing the game and visiting more informative sites to suit their specific needs. The same with happy WOW players and the same with happy AOC players (if they still exist *grins*).

MMORPG.com is the home of those who are temporarily lacking their mmo medication and are venting their cold turkey anger on the alternative pills that they've tried but which didn't do the trick for them, while forgetting that there is no pill that can serve everyone's specific ailment. WAR is a great pill, like WOW, LOTRO, EVE Online and others are great pills too. They do have different flavors though and personally I like the WAR one best at this moment.

RVR is not dead either. I play on an Open RVR / RP server in Europe and my server is on low population. (Due to a miscalculation somewhere at the GOA/Mythic offices about the amount of people interested in playing on RP servers they opened a few too many at launch). Even if we will all transfer coming monday to double the size of the other English spoken Open RVR RP server, we are still having a blast with RVR. There are warbands roaming the streets of Praag every night and progressing in Bastion is very entertaining as well.

Honestly, try the game and judge it for yourself.

    Bye now! *logs in*

play the game if you dare, then come back here and tell us how "fun" it is.

Guild wars Fan here.  In Guild Wars you had over 100 skills you can use and diversify with class combination get ready to spam like 3-5 buttons with 10% of the skills that GW had..... Guild Wars is far superior PVP gameplay than WAR...you will be disapponted.

Do NOT base your decision on ANYTHING posted here....from either side. This forum in no way paints a true picture of the game, state of the game, etc. I would suggest looking to other forums (for example, warhammeralliance.com or others listed on the warhammeronline.com official site) to get a better perspective.

Sadly, this not only applies to WAR but just about every forum on here....but that's due mostly to the larger, general focus of the site to "try" to provide information for all MMOs. If you want specific game information, you are better served by specific niche sites. Personally, I check this site and forum simply for amusement only at some of the unbelievable nonsense postings (from both sides...troll or fanboi).

You mean over 250, right?. Yeah, GWs smaller battles are great, but WARs big battles ain't so bad, really. I'm a GW fan too.

WARs RvR both need to mature a bit as someone said, and Mythic needs to fix quite a lot of things, which they seems to be working on. WAR did release to early, but in half a year or so I think the game will mature up good.

We really just have seen a tiny bit of what WAR can be, give the game some time and we'll see how good it really is.

Off course, the RvR playing will get tough competition once Guildwars 2 releases, Arenanet don't releases their game early, they are perfectionist. On the other hand, I kinda smell EAs hand in WARs early release.

WAR do have another problem, GOAs incompetence are killing the game in Europe, one funny thing is that I never read a single post here from someone that likes GOA... Not one.

I play and enjoy WAR, but admit it has things that need to worked on.  I fully expect this to be a great game after a few major patches and maybe an expansion.  Having said all that, your playstyle -- you will LOVE what WAR presently offers...and expect more in the coming months.  My reccommendation for you, STRONG BUY.  Pick a well populated server.

As someone who was on the fence about purchasing WAR after playing in the beta, I finally gave in and bought it just over a week ago. It has some minor issues, such as random CTDs at times, but overall, this game is much more polished than many other MMOs were at this stage after their release. If you enjoy PvPing, I think it's worth a shot, anyway. I know I'm enjoying it, although you shouldn't go in expecting too much, which I never do. I always do my research before purchasing any game so I know exactlty what to expect, which leads to far less disappointment in the end. The lack of looping music is probably my biggest gripe so far.

Overall, I give WAR an 8-8.5/10 in its current state (I'll rate it higher once the capital cities and two classes are back in), and I'm sure that Mythic will give us some great content in the future. But take my opinion, and anyone else's for that matter, at face value - it's an opinion. If you really want to find out if you'll like the game, you'll have to try it for yourself.

Honestly, as an ex-WoW addict (I finally quit once and for all a few months ago after having played since launch), I actually like WAR better, and that's saying something. Of course, I was an avid PvPer in WoW, so keep that in mind.

I think most game Companies Overlook Guild Wars as a great MMO. Already they announced a few years back they had 5 million accounts registered. Arena Net's Guild Wars is a Gorilla when it comes to PVP.  Not only is a Skill based game, very complicated when it comes to class combinations and like you said 250 skill + bonus skills that they are always releasing.

Guild Wars 2 is slated for 2009, War is dam lucky that Guild Wars 2 didn't come out this year.  WOTLK, GW2, LOTS MINES of MORIA, EQ2 exp...would of spelled certain doom for War.  Unfortunately Mythic has shot itself in the foot too many times already and all these delays will only push this game to be fully polished until some time next year, which is when Guild Wars 2 comes out.  IMO Mythic cannot compete with Guild Wars 2.

Arena net has had 4 years to perfect Guild Wars and its PVP, expect a very good game.

    To the OP.

If you got the money and 2 months to spend on this game, go for it, ok listen to the posters who say, don't listen to some opinions, but if you go into VN boards Warhammer forums, and War alliance forums you can hear the B#@$ing in there about the current state of this game, Gamers voice their opinions when somethings if F,ed up, and believe me, this game right now is failing....sorry to say this.

If you land on a decently populated server, ORVR happens fairly frequently in the higher tiers.  People eventually bore of scens, or prever ORVR in the first place.  On Sylvania, for example, there's usually enough for both in T3, 1-2 cycles of scens with a warband or two doing ORVR.  I do wish Sylvania's population was even higher, as the action and options dry up mid-day and late at night, but it could be a lot worse.

The real problem with ORVR is it takes players to do it, and currently the game's population is simply spread out among too many servers, an oversight on Mythic's part.  They kept flipping that "on" switch every time one of two servers hit that "full" marker.  Frankly, I'll never get that; their solution to full servers was to open a bunch of brand new ones rather than encouraging play on several of their already-existing medium servers.  If you pick a server with a healthy population there shouldn't be any major shortage of ORVR going on at least in the higher tiers.

T1 just goes by too quickly, and the ORVR objectives are boring, but by T3 things tend to get really interesting and fun, and people do participate.

EDIT as a personal aside, mainly to illustrate how the above poster's "war is failing, guild wars is awesome" mentality is just an opinion, I hate guild wars.  I hate how "magic: the gathering" group builds are, where individual skill and input means absolutely nothing, but all it really comes down to is "did your team build the right deck of cards that universally trumps the other team's deck?"  I can't stand that, knowing in a moment's glance which team is 99% likely to win just based on the skill choices.  That's not skill, that's going through the motions to reach a foregone conclusion.  Now, I'm not trying to start a "Guild Wars is good/bad" flamefest, it just irks me when someone is like "Honestly War has failed."

That isn't honest, that's just opinion.  And slightly retarded.

This is one of the most capable MMORPGs launched in recent years. It also has content to appeal for a number of different playstyles.

There are flaws. There always are.

Any fan of the genre who hasn't tried it should give it an honest shot. Ignore the forums for a while and just play. Many will find they like the game enough to stay, some won't. That's the way it always is with new MMORPG launches.
