I made a charecter to hunt and train my brand new charecter I went and used my 100 starting gold to get a slightly better weapon and shield.
I was killed they took everything I was killed literally right outside trinsic by a mage and a warrior the mage used paralyze so i couldn't run and the other guy just beat my charecter to death. I uninstalled and canceled.(one of many times I was PKed but that was the last time)
and you anti PKs that are posting weren't much better. I was PKed by people who were anti pks
Anti PK just means you pk with out going red sortof like how a privateer is a "lawful pirate". I went greyy do to the many many reasons a character can go gray while an anti PK was protecting me from reds. He then killed me the second I went grey.(and no I didn't steal from anyone)
Im sorry to hear that. I wish I could pay for a few visits to your shrink , but im not doing so well with $$ right now. Best of luck you though.
When I started UO I had no idea what I was doing. I picked a wizard template, had no idea what regents were, and I was wondering around Vesper completely clueless. For a while I just ran around town, found a fishing pole on the ground, fished for a little while (completely oblivious to how the skill system worked) and envied the people summoning elementals in town. Eventually, I decided it was time to break out into the world and explore.
I ran all the way up to Minoc and stayed there for a while. For the next month or so I was a miner. I mined out ore and sold the ingots. After I started getting fairly decent at it and had a bit of left over gold, I started smithing the ingots into basic stuff. Shields, swords, whatever the vendors were paying well for at the time. I partnered up with another miner and we were planning on getting a smithy together at some point. I heard the stories about players who "wear all black so they can hide in the mines and kill miners". I saw fights break out in the mines. It kept us on our toes, but it didn't stop us. One day I heard that there was an orc near the mines and I went over by the bridge where it was. Someone came by and killed it and they took the orc helm and put it on. I thought it was the best thing ever.
Shortly after that, I wondered out into the forest a bit, at which point I began getting chased by someone on a horse. I dashed into the forest and evaded him for a bit, but then a 2nd person on a horse came by and I was dead. For the first time, I had been "PK'd". I found my body and for the most part my stuff was there (it was all useless newbie stuff to any experienced player anyway) but from that point on I decided I wanted to be able to fight. I continued to mine to max out my strength, and I made myself a mace and a shield and started killing wolves just outside of town. Eventually, with my whopping 60skill in maces, I decided it was time to move again, and I ran and ran and ran and found my way to Britain.
Over time I figured out how the game worked, discovered scammers, started hanging out with a group at the Brit safety line to the east who would patrol the bend that was always controlled by reds, and became a fairly skilled and powerful fighter. I explored T2A, I bought a house, had one stolen, and saved a few people from having theirs taken amongst many other things from that point on.
This is just a fraction of the evolution of that one character that began as a clueless noob with a wizard template in vesper, became a lowly miner, and eventually rose to be a warrior, an archer, even a mage again finally. Looking back on all of it, there has never been a game with such a dynamic ability to change as you went on. The split took that away completely, because while you could still up and say one day "k, im gonna be a warrior now!" it was a completely different game. There was no risk. You didn't have to worry about thieves, PKs, or anything outside of the safe little bubble of Trammel. The risk was what made UO, UO. The fact that anything could happen and there were consequences and reprocussions to everything. A massive amount of the things that made the game unique were simply gutted, let alone the fact that now all you needed was a moonstone to make your quick break to safety if you entered any conflict in Felucca.
Of course, to trammelites this wall of text means nothing. To them the only thing that matters is "baww I died, no fair."
I constantly read posts from people complaining how UO was ruined with the introduction of Trammel. These most likely were the people that liked going around PKing innocent miners, attacking adventurer's in the middle of battling monsters, and stealing from people because they were to lazy to get their butt in a dungeon and earn their gold honestly. These are the low lifes that liked to prey on people instead of working together with everyone to build a better community.
Wrong.
Like someone else before said, I was also in an anti-pk guild, yet I loved UO pre trammel.
We just understand the neccesity of "danger" in a videogame. Calling someone a "low life" for beating you in a videogame is ridiculous.

The Jerks.

If every time you go out to practice a skill you get killed and in the case of UO you start losing skill it becomes a real pain in the ass. And for brand new characters it's just insanely frustrating.
I have no problem with pvp, the problem was getting to a point where I can defend myself from some guy in plate screaming out corp por the second I leave a town to hunt something just slightly larger then a cow.
The reason trammel was created was because of the griefers. The good Pks got punished with the jerks, it's sad but haven't any of you been in kindergarden before?
"well because little billy has decided to act like an asshat and decided to pants little susie we all will be missing recess today"
the point of that punishment is so the other students get pissed at billy and force him to act like less of an asshat the problem with UO is everyone decided to blame susie the girl who was minding her own buisness and suddenly founder herself pantless.
So next time get pissed at the guy who goes around teabagging the new players who don't have time to grind against elementals in their hows while sleeping.
Oh yea Yay for macroing with no real risk until your charecter is godlike and then saying that you "worked hard".
havent been to this thread in a while, figured Id stop by.
Reason folks like myself have such an issue with Trammel is that it killed what many of us enjoyed. No not all of us were evil gankers, many of us were, but some of us enjoyed the conflicts thats arose from such a world.
Thats only possible in a UO Pre-trammel. There isnt another game on the market atm that offers that kind of gameplay. None. So a lot of us are just rather pissed that we played a game for many years only to have the game removed.
To fix the problem, would just require an EA exec to make a classic server for us. I know there is Siege Perilous, but the mechanics there are a bit extreme. Hopefully the link gives a few of you non-trammel folks an idea of what we are talking about.

i played UO for 5 years and was glad they put in trammel. i could go train skills or PvP when i wanted to. it seems the people that are pissing and moaning that trammel killed UO are then ones that would go around ganking newbies. all trammel did was give the people that got sick and tired of that crap something else to do so they could come back and kick the shit out of the people that kept ganking them. I had the same amount of PvP with trammel as i did without. dont know what the big issue was really.

Well good for you.
It got rid of 90% of my pvp. The pvp world became a complete ghost town. If you read my story, I didnt gank lowbies, in fact, I was one of the poor bastards who got ganked. However, instead of reacting like you, I got revenge.

dont know what server you played on but mine was fine. furthermore, wasnt even commenting on your story nor do i care about it. i was making a comment on the "trammel ruined UO" topic. also, what in the hell are you talking about, reacting the way i did? i didnt react in any way.

You just admited to hiding in the pve zones...that right there reduced pvp. It split the population by over 50%. There was no longer any fear or excitement, no more player driven content... just pve...
So yes, trammel did ruin UO.
Reacting the way you did, I was refering hidding out in trammel, complaining about those of us who liked one world, etc.

i wouldnt call it hiding out but if thats what you think, thats ok too. the game in essence was still one world. all it did was give everyone options. if you didnt like, you could have always went to siege perilous. the point i made previously, which you obiviously didnt read, i had just as much pvp before trammel as i did after. you just sucked at the game.

Siege perilous isnt the same ruleset. As for me sucking at the game... I wasnt the one hiding in the Trammel...
Yup... the key that kept me playing at that point was that I finally got a chance to get a big house and good storage space. Truth is that AOS was the final nail in the coffin for me (even though I got an 18x18 out of it). AOS completely changed everything. All accumulated loot was now worthless and even skill levels were like starting all over again with power scolls. Power scrolls... what a joke. No one even noticed that they effectively eliminated one skill.

cry me a f*cking river you baby. if its not one thing its another. wah wah wah, trammel ruined the game, wah wah wah, the ruleset isnt the same. basically you adapt and survive with the choices presented to you. obviously you failed.

You don't "adapt and survive" when it comes to games.
If they made it so everyone looked like a carebear and all you did was bake cookies, would you "adapt and survive"? No, you'd quit because the game would suck.

I adapted with stats loss.
Once they split the worlds it just wasnt worth playing anymore.
It seems that some people are under the impression that anybody that loved pre-trammel is or was a PK'er. I think that those people need to revisit there opinion.
The amount off PK'er was not that great so that after 9 years, you still have them complaining on the forums everywhere...
Lets face facts shall we:
- Trammel introduced a total collapse off the economy. Any money that was hard earned, became easy so easy with strip mining, that it was a joke. The bad effect was, houses became extreme expensive. Everybody and there uncle where able to afford a house, resulting that every little open spot became a home. Armor? Ha ... why bother even...
- A bit off dungeon clawing, became easy. The enemy AI was dumb as a doorknob. The result was, even the hardest spots, became overrun with people. Those poor monsters... they never knew what overcame them.
No fear off a PK'er amongst the crowds. Or one hiding in the shadows. Lets all stand there, want wait for the monsters to respawn...
- No Danger, No Trill. That sums up the entire experience after Trammel. No adrenaline pumping moments anymore where you escaped a PK'er ( or a group ) off them. No more looking behind you back. No place is off limits. No rare is off limits. Everything is fair game.
- Grouping? Why bother. There is almost nothing that can't be done with a bit off running. Monsters are limited in range, so run far, and it stops automatically.
Try that with a PK'er on the hunt.
- Socializing? Why bother. There is no common enemy anymore. We are in no danger. Monsters are easy. No need to socialize, make friends against a common foo, and group together.
- How about hiding? The tool needed to survive PK'ers. And smart PK'er tried to depth charge your position if needed ( explosions ), or did a grid pattern search for that "bumped into somebody" message then.
The AI? Did not bother. So do a successful hide, and your free again.
- Mining? Just pile up all your ore, and use the bump trick ( place or x feet behind you, pick up, move it x feet before you. Relocate, and again. Take massive amounts off ore to town that way, and the only thing you need to be careful, is that nobody around you steals the ore.
Pre-trammel. Shit, a red name popups up on your screen. Pick up your ore, and hide quickly. And hope they don't spot you ( even worse if your overloaded at that moment, and can't move ). They spot you? Dump your ore, and run! Or die with your ore.
- Experience ( a lot ) of enemy's ( PKers ) who where not whiny little ****, where you where able to have a conversation with. How about enemy's that resurrect you.
- How about those other introductions to please those complainers? O you died because off a monster. Well, we will make your body none lootable for x time. This way you lose nothing.
Wait a minute? People complain about PK'ers? -- Pk'ers get major punishments on dead ( worse then any "newbie" or other player gets being killed ). -- Pk'ers can not enter towns. -- Pk'ers ... this list is to long...
And now people complain ( whine! ) about loosing there armor etc being killed by monsters. And this is the solution? Interesting.
- This list goes on...
To put thing in perspective, those whiners got everything handed to them on a plat. And every time it was handed to them, there was a other thing to whine about. Up to the point, there was nothing left to do after a month ( any newbie was able to master any class, with riches to spoil in a month ).
A interesting fact is, the game became so boring, that they where forced to introduce factions as a way to spice up the game, and introduced consensual PKing.
So, even today, those same people are still acting up, how they are wronged, and how everything was not fair. I find this very interesting.
Now, the fact that so many people are still in love with the pre-trammel gameplay, that they "hijack" every topic on the board, is that not telling something?
Maybe those off you that think that every person that loved pre-trammel is a PK'er, might realize that people like you did actually destroy the game we loved. Sure, you all probably moved on to everquest, wow, or whatever game that caves in to your whining, but we, the people who actually liked to experience danger in a game, who saw that the work inside UO meant something, we never got a home again. All we can do now is whine about the old days, as it has been 9 years already for us.
So, put a freaking sock in it will ya. How about returning the game to use, that we loved. The game that so many off use loved.
It breaks my hart to see people post how they entered UO, acted like idiots, thinking that live in a mmorpg has no consequences. Getting killed, and then whine there ass off how evil the world is. Well mate, get over it. Real live is not handed to you on a plate, so why expect a mmorpg to be the same? If you did not like the gameplay, all you needed to do, is leave, and join the mass off other mmorpgs who did have the gameplay you wanted. Where there was a butler to hand everything to you on a silver plate. But noooooo...
Sure, UO had it flaws, cheaters, and misuse. But that did not stop it from being a extremely fun, and exiting game.
Its even more fun today, to see mmorpg developers making there game content that way, that you need to group. Not because off any danger, but if you don't, you can't "level" up, or defeat that "end boss". If they don't, people have the habit off solo playing. *ha!* Defeats the purpose off a mmorpg does it not.
----- O and for your information, i lost count on the amount off years i played UO, but in all that time, i only played a PK'er for maybe a day or 2 ( it was not to my liking ). Most off the people i know from the pre-trammel era ( who also all! left UO around that time ), where also not PK'ers. There opinions where the same. The game became so easy, boring, what was the point off it all anymore... And to be honest, i don't even see why we, who loved pre-trammel need to justify our self. ----
So, i thank you good good citizens for your complaining and turning a good mmorpg ( one we have yet encountered again in those 9 years ), into a pispot for crybaby's, and mama boys. A mmorpg that now needs to survive by acting like a diablo clone to survive.
I thank you again. And next time we hijack a UO thread, well, maybe we have bloody good reason to be bitter about what happened!

Dumped UO like years ago. But it was a great start for the genre. Pat on the back devs.

havent been to this thread in a while, figured Id stop by.
Reason folks like myself have such an issue with Trammel is that it killed what many of us enjoyed. No not all of us were evil gankers, many of us were, but some of us enjoyed the conflicts thats arose from such a world.
Take a look at this
Thats only possible in a UO Pre-trammel.
So to fix the problem all they would need to do is make some sortof classic PvP server maybe they could call it Felucia or something like that.
So to fix the problem all they would need to do is make some sortof classic full PvP server maybe they could call it Felucia or something like that.
would make me and many others happy.
um.....felucia IS the PvP side to trammel..... there was the trammel side where the carebears went to and then felucia which had an open pvp system.
i played UO for 5 years and was glad they put in trammel. i could go train skills or PvP when i wanted to. it seems the people that are pissing and moaning that trammel killed UO are then ones that would go around ganking newbies. all trammel did was give the people that got sick and tired of that crap something else to do so they could come back and kick the shit out of the people that kept ganking them.

Well good for you.

cry me a f*cking river you baby. if its not one thing its another. wah wah wah, trammel ruined the game, wah wah wah, the ruleset isnt the same. basically you adapt and survive with the choices presented to you. obviously you failed.

You don't "adapt and survive" when it comes to games.
If they made it so everyone looked like a carebear and all you did was bake cookies, would you "adapt and survive"? No, you'd quit because the game would suck.

Everyone sit down and be quiet, cause harmonica says schools in session!

QFT
I adapted with stats loss.
Once they split the worlds it just wasnt worth playing anymore.
Some interesting material to read.
-----
O and for your information, i lost count on the amount off years i played UO, but in all that time, i only played a PK'er for maybe a day or 2 ( it was not to my liking ).
