DX10 version hitting Test Server in couple of weeks time

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just wanted to give you all a quick update on where things are at with the current update schedule as we head into the weekend. I noticed a few 'what is happening when?' question over the last week off the back of the last community letter, so wanted to give you all an update on what the release plans are. There will be a very small 3.2 update for some minor fixes and additions shortly, most likely next week. This is just to tie of a few of the outstanding we didn't want to leave until the next major Update. The next major update will then be released to the test servers for public testing. This should happen over the next couple of weeks hopefully. This is the update that includes the DirectX 10 version of the client as well as the usual combination of new content, fixes and tweaks that come with a major update version. Preliminary update release notes will be available on the test server forums when it is released there. When the update is released to the live servers will depend on how the public testing progresses. |
They are hoping to have DX10 client on Test Server very soon, good news!

Based on FC's past performance, announcements of things to come are not good news. FC hasn't earned the right to be believed. Too many have resubbed in the past for content about to be released that either never was or was pushed back several billing cycles.
You know what would be good news? DX10 being implemented successfully. Once its done its good news. Before hand, not so much.

Perhaps you missed the point of my post is that a mere announcement from FC doesn't count for much.

Am I the only one you finds all these "DX10 is coming soon" news actually insulting? I mean DX10 was supposed to be there at launch and we've been hearing for many months now how "DX10 is coming soon". It pisses me off. Same thing happened with pvp system.
Why can't they just stfu until the new content is actually on testlive?

Game is too new to have a 'recent' history significantly separate from its total history. FC would need to do its job properly for quite a while before they regained trust.

I have lost count, is this the 8th,9th or 10th time they have announced DX10 is comming soon?
Nice, about time they started the movement on dx10. I'm wondering if they are using things from dx10 or 10.1. There isn't alot about the upgrade to notice, but it could very well be an excuse as to why the dx10 version was taking so long. Any chance Avery that you know some insider info on this?
No reason to be insulted by the news. You are right we have been hearing about it for months, being strung along in a sad attempt to retain subscribers. But thats really nothing to get mad over right? It would be one thing if they were getting away with it, that would probably be frustrating and worth getting mad over - but they aren't. They are facing very real consequences for their shady business practices. They have alienated a vast number of players, many of whom were ready to die for this game before release.
To answer your question, 'why can't they stfu until the new content is actually on testlive'... its simple really. Funcom is at an all time low in investor confidence, not even counting customer confidence here. They need to, at the very least, give the IMPRESSION they are making progress, even if they aren't. No one wants to help fund a business that isn't going anywhere. It makes since they would release this information now to try to drum up confidence.
But will the investors and players buy it? They will have to distinguish how *now* is any different than the other dozen times they said dx10 was just around the corner. And they will have to do it with more than words. At this point, funcoms word is worth almost as much as their stock.

It's exaggeration or "misinformed" that they'd been talking about DX10 for launch and were unable to deliver? It's exaggeration or "misinformed" that they've continued to talk about it "coming soon" several times in the now half year since, and are still saying "coming soon"?

The point is, why can't they stop saying "coming soon!", to be followed 2 months later by "coming soon!", to be followed a month or two later with "coming soon!", stringing people along to keep them interested if not subscribed.
It's now 6 months - almost to the day - since AoC was launched and despite all the "coming soon" announcements, it's still not arrived.
Remember the story of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"? The moral being, when you keep causing false alarms, eventually people stop believing you.

Age of Conan DirectX 10 content looks stunning

We've had a sneak peek at the final Age of Conan DirectX 10 content and it looks like it's going to be worth the delay.
We were lucky enough to grab a first look at the final DirectX 10 implementation for Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures yesterday and when you consider that the game is an MMO, the level of visual fidelity is stunning.
I haven’t had chance to go hands-on with AoC’s DirectX 10 mode yet – the video only made its way out of Funcom for the first time on Monday night, but Funcom said that it plans to release the video for all to see in the next few days.
I pushed to post the video ahead of the planned unveiling but Funcom wants to make some final tweaks—including adding developer commentary—before allowing it to be distributed onto the ‘net. I was also asked not to post photographs either, so we’ll have to wait for the video to be made available before you can see it for yourselves.
However, we can reveal that Funcom has created its own custom physics engine using CUDA, which enables some pretty stunning wind and water effects. In fact, I’d go so far as to say the water in Age of Conan looks almost as good as the water in Crysis with the quality set to very high; the shore blends with the environment and the waves move in a realistic manner.
What’s more, Funcom has done some pretty incredible work underwater – god rays are now present and they interact with the way the water surface is moving, resulting in some great lighting effects on show when you look at the sky from under the water.
The best example of the wind effects came when the character started casting spells while in the middle of a field – the grass around him rippled and moved in a way similar to how grass moves when a helicopter is taking off or landing.
HDR lighting also looks great and there are some great soft lighting effects around the edge of buildings, railings and foliage – light softens the edges of objects in a pretty realistic manner. Ambient parallax occlusion mapping also makes its way into the game too, and again it adds another level of immersion into the game.
I haven’t played much of Age of Conan so far, but some of the graphical and physics effects I’ve seen in the DirectX 10 features video make me want to sink a good amount of time into the game. There have been many videos of earlier versions of the engine running DirectX 10 mode, but the video I saw looked a hell of a lot more polished than any previous demos I’d looked at. There’s no release date confirmed for the DirectX 10 patch yet, but I don’t think it’ll be too far away based on what I’ve seen.

They have done that now which is part of the reason for the delay - amongst all the extra features that have been implemented into it. Imagine on a scale of 1 - 10 lotro dx10 is a 5 well AoC's would be a 8 from the sounds of it and all the extra's witnessed in public already.

What is so hard to understand about this - and, if those that don't play the game or have no interest in it whatsoever, continue to moan about it from every angle contradicting themselves throughout recent timeline of news released?
Please go link the monthly statements or whatever saying it's nearly here? From everything I have been privvy to they have just been upfront and honest in this area since release with Dx10 specifically.

I'm just saying it's an insult to players when they say DX10 is coming soon. It's the same song we have been hearing since launch. How can tell us "Good news! We have this awesome DX10 patch coming soon!" when it should have been at launch?
Craig should just keep quit and make it happen. Some game companies don't do this hype - they just deliver the product and let it do the talking. I respect that.
Like someone here said, it's the old carrot-in-a-stick routine used by too many MMO companies. But I have to say I've never seen so much lying and hype as I've seen with AoC. I'm surprised they haven't been sued for false marketing yet.

The exaggeration comes from the perceivement that it's been mentioned numerous times..
It's obvious that some are here because they have not got the best interest of the community at hand and pass by daily in search to nitpick and go to extremes. New hobby is needed guys.
Oh, come on, Avery. Everyone here knows Funcom has been saying this "coming soon" crap since launch. I'm not going to waste my time digging up old stuff just to find proof for you. We both know you read ALL AoC related material you can find so I don't need to prove you something you already know.
People here are not stupid, you know. There is no point in trying to defend Funcom by saying they haven't promised anything yada yada.. we all know that is a lie.
People who say negative things about AoC also help the community. They are helping people NOT to spend their time and money on AoC because we do know most people don't like the game once they get to higher levels. It get boring real fast and doesnt' have that "magic" that keeps you coming back for more. I personally see AoC as an average single player game, nothing more.
On topic.. I do hope they get DX10 client working as soon as possible because if they don't, it might be the last nail to the coffin for AoC.

Ive been with AOC for a quite some time now. Im not a fanboy and it did piss me off that dx10 was not in at launch. I remember them saying various times way before launch that it would be in at launch. However I cant remember one time(and I always keep up with their announcements) that they have said DX10 was "coming soon" since launch. Theyve stated they are working on it and should be releasing it in coming months back in September, and then before they released the last major content update(ymirs pass) they stated it was the next major update on their list. Now their saying its the next major update coming..So whats the problem?? Theyre sticking to their word and schedule. What are you people moaning about??

It's simply an update from a small chain of events that as someone else said "negative nancy's" jumping all over it for the sake of it. Over the top to say the least...

What does enhanced for DX10 mean? I does not sound like, DX10 is in the game.... It sounde like it is made ready for DX10. I don't care anyway, my feet are trempling from exitement. FC come on, give me this christmas present!!
Well this DX10 fiasco was a big deal for a lot of players. I personally know people who spent a lot of money to upgrade their computers just because of DX10. Luckily I didn't. Then 2 days before launch they said: "Sorry guys, we just decided a minute ago that DX10 won't make it in launch!". Now 6 months ago we STILL don't have it and it could take a month or more before it reaches live.
Now do you understand why these "coming soon" news piss people off? It's false advertising with solo purpose of taking peoples money.
But you and I are probably different kinds of people. I demand good, quality service and I hate lying. Some people here have smaller expectations. They are happy to pay for beta and when they get lied by game companies they just bend over and say "thank you sir, may I have another?". People like these are the reason MMO's get launched too early - there is always some idiot willing to pay for beta.
We as a community have to demand better service.
