The Bible Online - when will it happen?

Since we have all these mmo's that are based on good and evil setup, why not use the ultimate good/evil source of our time?

I think the Bible would be an excellent lore for an historical/real-time mmo

With the true epic battle of God and Satan, along with stories of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah,

Moses, king David, Samson, Solomon, John the Baptist and ofc Jesus

Gods army, the angels, Jesus and his diciples and all his followers  would ofc be the good side,

while the evil side could be represented by the Lucifer's army, the Romans, Sodom and Gomorrah, Pharisees and Sadducees, the scribes

Pontius Pilate could be somewhat indifferent.

Well I think it could work anyway, at least the story would be epic.

I'm sorry we don't need another fantasy themed mmo.

And whose interpretation of the bible will you use?  How do you intend to prevent insulting those who follow that version?  How do you intend to prevent insulting those who follow another version?

Christians would go ape shit if it didn't force some narrow minded moral imperative on every player and I just don't see any developer with the balls to give it the proper fantasy treatment.

But if I could be a legionary in a Roman Legion and slaughter Believers I'd play fo' sho'.

Your right, it is pretty much the ultimate source for good vs evil mmo

And there is one under developement. Though I am not at liberty to reveal it to much. :)

Their way of getting out from under the version question was, to use the bible as the setting, not the story.

They based the game world on the bible, then made their own story.

And I personally think its not exactly the best mmo, its the exact opposite, it has great story, setting, content, but the engine and mechanics stink. :(

I think the thought of royalty fees to all the different sects would cripple this game  from even getting started :p

The amount of Christian bashing in this thread is really not needed.

Hey, as long as I can crucify Jesus and hang around the cave to make sure it sticks, I'm good.

There's nothing more funny than Christian's ALWAYS playing the victim card.  They've been in power in the US for 8 years (and many years before that, going back to 1980...Hell, even long before that, going back to Emperor Theodosius!) and yet they keep screaming victimization in hopes of gaining sympathy points.  Bah.  Sorry, I'm not playing that game.  You've had your turn, and you ruined everything.  Time to quit and let the world grow up and move on.

=) And where was I playing the victim card in my post? I think generalizations are bad in every way. I really do respect your point of view, but I certainly disagree with you. In my opinion, the world is the way it is because we've grown too far from God. You don't have to agree with me. God gave us free will (atleast in my religion) and you can believe whatever you want. I just feel that stereotyping anyone is ignorant.

Actually, the OP has a good point.

I remember seeing a news quip about some company that made or was making a RPG that was about the Rapture...

You worked against some global One World Order type government and you went around converting the guards and people with some kind of holy weapon or something.

The vids I saw (was on the telly) was you'd 'attack' the sinners with someone non-lethal weapon (no I don't think it was a bible) and of course, there was no blood. But then the 'sinners' would have this giant floaty, glowing cross over their heads after. I do remember seeing this type of game but cannot for the life of me, remember the name. Maybe Ill look it up.

Of course, this type of MMO would not be an international hit (as the largest world religion is Islam) but in the U.S. it would be the very definition of a 'niche' game and definitely wouldn't have parents picking Washington D.C. about it.

Will someone fund it? I dunno. Doubt it as most adult Christians see MMO type of activity as somewhat demonic in nature and non-productive anyways, and most Christian kids would rather be playing WoW.

I always love the pure hubris of Christians.  They think they own the world and its spiritual realm.  Clearly the throngs of people who lived before Jesus, and the throngs of people who lived after him and yet did/do not except him as their savior, clearly they are all "wrong" and are therefore forever doomed to damnation.
    LMAO at stupidity.

yup thats pretty much it, grow up and get over it. i believe in what the bible says in that whoever believes in him will now perish but will have everlasting life. you dont see me going around bashing atheists for not believing but its ok for ppl to bash christians for having a free will (like this post) idc if you dont believe it or not but theres no reason to go crazy over this subject. deal with it and move on. we have got so much history from the bible. ever read the old testament? its almost like a history book in its own rights. deal with it

They don't even have to deal with it. I'd just like a little bit of respect...from both groups.

Uhum....Catholicism is still classed as being part of the greater Christian church and Islam is possibly second to Christianity in numbers

I know. I was just stating that Islam now has more people than the Catholic part of the Christian Church.

At the risk of hijacking this thread, I'm not gonna go "yes it is, no it isn't".

Most Born Again Christians do not consider themselves "Catholic", so don't mix apples and oranges. And quite a few of those don't even consider Catholics to be christians. It's obivious the kind of demographic the OP is talking about, not catholics.

So, again, based on whats hes talking about I think I am right. No one you can lump Catholic in with Born Again Christians and the like.

At the risk of hijacking this thread, I'm not gonna go "yes it is, no it isn't" but would simply have you GOOGLE and check for yourself. Again, worldwide numbers. Check it.

    You will be surprised.
