Hi, just want to share a few things about the game from 3 days of closed beta and 3 of open beta.
Starting with the best thing. - The skill deck. - Choosing the combo's you like best was something I had to learn because no other game chose to do it like this yet.
At first I was waiting to find some ready made combo's but in the end I found out it was really about how you like to fight.
Then the worst. I feel there is missing some features. I don't care about missing content or buggy quests/maps but I don't think anyone has any idea how the bigger picture of PvP will work. This maybe an intended tactic to leave the best for the last but it is a bit worrying.
Then to counter it with a possitive, the actually PvP fighting is alot of fun. Because stats aren't so important you could still win from a higher level with better skill (twitch) and tactics (skill deck). Also the fights don't end to soon because of ridiculous damage and don't take too long because of ridiculous healing.
That also leads to the Melee which is fun because of the dancing around. The magic spells keeps you grounded so that looks balanced.
I haven't played long enough to see alot of skills but i'm eager to find out. I'm not so eager to grind alot of npc's for it. But I think the difficulty of the questing will offer a good alternative. Powerleveling without questing isn't possible.
The graphics are good and the game runs fine with vista 3gb ram and 7600gt. Big groups fighting will lag just like any other mmorpg i played.
I find the art a bit childish but compared to WOW it can go about as mature.
I'm probably gonna buy the game. I hope the server population can get high enough to give a living feel to the world (not like WAR)

Thx for Sharing, nice review.
wouldnt mind it if the game used all of my gfx card insted f like 30% of half bad performanc e: /
Nice write up.
My thoughts;
GOOD:
*I liked the combat system and skill deck, best ive seen in an MMO to date. I like the way you can make all kinds of variations of each class, and theres no pigeon holeing.
*The combat system of debuffing and buffing is nice, its not just about spamming damage skills till dead. It also rewards your skill,as missing with attacks can actually weaken you. Combat has a consiquence on both sides.
*The pep system and status bar is again very interesting and makes combat tactical.
*The graphics arent bad,but theyre not exactly lotro. The art style is nice, however,as is the world design.
*Stat point input..why have recent MMOs totally disregarded this? Glad to see its in tcos.
*Mobs are smart, and the different way they aggro is great.
*Crafting system is unusual,but rich.
*PVP is based around skill from what ive tested, and level/stats dont matter as much.
*Customisation in general is excellent.
*You have to read and think to complete quests, its not just press M and see a big red blotch on where to go.
*Its not just another dumbed down wow clone.
BAD:
*far too many 'collect meat' types of quests or fedex stuff..whilst some elements have a nice story telling element, others are just mindless.
*Linear quest ride. Not much reason to explore and look for hidden content. They should put stuff like this in,as it would be so much better.
*Character graphics arent as good as the world graphics. Hair styles in general look strange and kind of disconnected from the head. Some NPCs look terrible..
*Lack of some item types..staves,polearms,robes,leather belts, heavy foot armour, beards, facial scars etc.
*You cant really grind. Never thought id find an MMO where I actually wanted to just grind mobs, but the combat system is so enjoyable that I wouldnt mind.
*Crafting is very different, and not everyone likes it in its current implementation.
I enjoyed spellborn, and while it has its own issues,Its nice to see a game which isnt just another wow clone. It requires thought (outside of the meat grinding quests...) for the combat, skill set up and questing.
Ill definately play it on release as long as Acclaims servers arent too laggy.
