Originally posted by Reklaw The August 2005 issue of PC Gamer UK featured an article on the video, titled "The Ballad of Leeroy Jenkins." According to the article, the video was designed as a negative commentary on the kind of "nerd-guilds" that meticulously and statistically plan out raids with all the seriousness of actual military tactics. Leeroy is in fact the hero of the piece, acting against the geekiness of his guild.[1]
I agree with this angle of the Leeroy Jenkins saga. Over analyzing strategy before going into big fights ruins immersion. Nothing wrong with forming a plan of attack, but sometimes it gets to the point where people practically pull out their chalk boards and draw it up for everyone. The sign of a good gamer is one who can adjust during the fight.
You apparently havent played the really difficult WoW endgame content.... strategizing on this level is absolutely vital if you have any intention of succeeding
No hard feelings, just FYI
I watched the video again. Even with all the planning, one of the players calculated their chance of success at only 32.33%. I guess I failed to take into account the hardcore, heavy handed, massive boss mob killing machines that Blizzard programmed into WoW.
as the wikipedia entry stated before, the video was a machinima, ie: a movie made by art.
Yes, it is a "fake" in the sense that that particular situation never happened for real but was made up. However, I am sure many similar situations similar to that DID happen for real and that is why the whole movie was made up.
"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"
LOL, what the hell was the name of that dwarf in Guild War's Eye of the North expansion? Elroy Stoneskin? Either way, yeah, Leeroy has (unfortunately) unfluenced other MMOs.
Really don't think it was a fake. Think it became a cult classic as it was just a really idiotic wipe. I may be wrong, but I hopt it wasn't just made up as it used to make me laugh so hard that snotters would run down my face!

It was 100% fake. They guy who made the video ran around and agroed everthing he could. He even agroed some of the Dragon kin on the ledge. I've been to UBRS over 100 times. It's obviously fake.
If your like me and was around when the video was made, you know the story behind it. Leeroy Jenkins, real guy, it really happened. The entire guild remade the scene, That did hapen, but what was in the video and ventrillo was remade so other peole could have a laugh.
His "calculations" were obviously not what happened. Leeroy's words didn't change much.
The guild was real, and the scene was remade, thats all it is, People keep haveing this argument once and awhile. Who cares if it was real, it was funny.

This is the truth. What is seen in the video is a re-enactment of actual events, much like a movie that says "based on a true story." The events in the video did happen, but not as you see them recorded. They played out the scene again and added certain comedic elements to make it funnier.
Clearly it worked, since not only has the video been seen by pretty much anyone who has ever heard of WoW, but he even has his own Achievement and Title in the game itself.
This is akin to asking if people have heard of Rick Astley outside of YouTube. I met him once at a Blizzcon. He certainly was nothing like the image I'd conjured up.
ugh, maybe im old then, cause I remember when Rick Astley was the big hit, just like Minoque, was it Stock, Aitkin and Waterman?

Lol I remember when I was alot younger and my older brother bought the Rick Astley album, worrying times,I would always hide it when my mates came around to play the Atari 2600 incase they thought it was mine
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

I think he moderates the Arena Tournaments (at least he did back in 2007) Finals.
It was a skit character on the Fox Networks tv show "In Living Color" for years back in the early 1990's
This was the video I saw when the whole Leeroy thing was getting talked about in WoW a couple of years ago now (at least it seems that long ago!):

So did you agree with Abdul's calculations?
And notice how he doesn't sound like the sterotypical chicken fan any more? Nevermind the visual side.
