Named Epics

First I'd like to thank LOTRO for coming up with Achievements and instanced content / "phasing" that Blizzard implemented into WOW. I remember experiencing both during LOTRO open beta and thinking "these would be excellent to have in WOW." Turbine seems to come up with lots of cool ideas.

Their latest idea for Mines of Moria is custom-made Epic weapons that you can name! I really LIKE this and I hope Blizzard implements. The first place they could implement this, on a small scale, would be for Frostmourne. I couldn't get used to seeing a player like xXBatmanBoiXx running around with THE Frostmourne. When Arthas dies Frostmourne should shatter because the blade is bound to Arthas. The shattered pieces could be reforged into a new blade that xXBatmanBoiXx can then name... like "Soulstriker" or "Wrathavenger". What do you think? The new blade could include something like "Forged from the powerful shards of the infamous Frostmourne" so that other players know it was once Frostmourne.

Yeah that is a great idea. I dont want to get flamed but I mean if Blizzard implements this into WoW wouldn't that be copying again? I loved WoW but they do copy alot of stuff imho.

Naming gear isn't anything new, but it is something I've enjoyed in previous games.

Blizzard is excellent at taking good ideas, dumbing them down, wrapping them in vanilla packaging, and selling them to the masses.

Yes, I played WoW for 4 years...and am also a lifetime LotRO subscriber.  Notice I said "played" WoW...past tense.

Meh i hope they don't use that, i'm sure there are tons of stupid names on weapons in LOTRO, but if they do hey why not, i don't have any issue with them using ideas from other area's into WOW, its good for the subscribers of the game, i don't really care about the other mmo's so whatever.

I'll just bust out the popcorn when it happens and watch all the crybabies come here and scream how blizzard stole this and that..oh wait they do that already lol.

    < a bit off topic, sorry>

Frankly I agree with Scalebane at the moment.  While I enjoy talking about mechanics and the genre's history, I could care less about other titles; mostly because studios seem content publishing heaping piles of incomplete crap.

Until something worth discussing outside the random remark is released, I'll be mainly posting here.  Why would I even bother with the LoTR forum if I've no interest in the game?

Back on subject though ... my only other comment is that I think a naming system works better with crafted items.  That was one of the very <insert extremely long string of qualifiers> rare aspects of SWG I enjoyed.

Even tho I think this to be an interesting idea one of two things would have to happen and they both are gonna piss people off.

    A) Let everyone have the ability at some point to name and epic, this may be expensive at start but the way wow works everyone will end up doing it sooner or later and considering the level of maturity through out the community you would end up with items such as "Chuck Norris <insert name here>" which i dont think its cool.

    B) Add an end game requirement, such as, you need to use the anvil in Arthas chamber to craft this named epic this would limit the supply of these items but then again people would whine only the elitists can create them.

On a second thought blizzard could just add a bunch of keywords that could be used kinda like creating a tabard, you have all those litle options and you create your own combination but with names that they think would be valid.

That is actually a great idea man. Placed somewere where Arthas romes  so that hardcore players that reach the place or kill Arthas to use it would be a great idea and for the fact that the masses would whine about is well.. just tough because they earned it imho. I mean come on.. killing Arthas. Lol.
