Anyway I'm just curious what they is supposed to add to the game and why it seems to be such a big issue with some people.

rofl... wanna bet? You don't work in the hotel industry, do you? Its all about supply and demand, kid. The devs won't change something if most people feel it doesn't need to be changed, or at least they shouldn't. The minority have been getting pandered to far too much in MMO's.

Right, because SOE has a long history of making changed based on what their current players want and not changes based on what will attract new players regardless of how those changes might affect their current customers.

If people didn't want this change Moirae, then why has SOE spent so much time talking about fixing it over the years?

One thing you can depend on at MMORPG is that there will always be someone responding here who will

    be. . .

    . . .unintentionally funny.

Thats exactly what the skeletal revamp was supposed to do.  Look at your so called 'diversity of equipment'.  Count how many of those armor and clothings models are actually unique, and count how many are the same exact model re-used over and over again, just re textured and re colored.  If you are a caster you will wear the same robe from level 1 - 60+.  There *might* be one or two variations.

But I would gladly be happy to be proven wrong if someone would post this mystical 'variety' and not just talk about it.  What irks me is the dozens of statements from SOE along the lines of the one below, which is a flat out lie.  It was never done!  It was never worked on!  "Revamps are coming, we are working on it, ect, ect ect. " It was all just smoke and mirrors, one big lie.

    Typical SOE statement:

it's not a matter of "soon" as much as "it's still on the plate and being worked on". Having to go through every single skeleton and to then choose the least impacting way to clean house to make armor making easier is a LONG task.

So the "official word" is that revamps are still coming, but don't hold your breath that it's coming "soon".

    ~Gnobrin!

    Typical SOE result:

Nothing happens after months and months, and it everything that came out of their mouth was a lie.  False promises, false statements, just false.  Nothing was in the works, nothing was coming, not even in the long term.  Yet they continued to spew this stuff forth.  Sigil did the same very thing, and SOE continues to do in with VG.  Anybody remember the re-release that was supposed to happen a year and a half ago?  Anyone remeber dynamic weather system?  Anyone remember player run cities?  They're still working on Galleons.  Anyone remeber that flying mounts is a feature on the box, yet was not avaiable in the game until months later?

In any other industry this does not fly.  I do not pay for a burger at a fast food joint to be told your order is coming,  its being worked on, they're putting it together right now, oh look the cheese is melting, while the employees sit around for 5 hours picking their nose.  Then when I finally get my food I don't get a burger (what I paid for) instead I get fillet of fish.  Imagine how ridiculous of a situation that is.  Yet it happens everday on just about every modern MMO.  I don't even include the word RPG in it anymore, these games are not worthy of being called RPG anymore.

Call me whiner, call me crybaby, its the truth and you know it.

No Milky, but you do get told that items are "coming" onto the Burger menu and they never show up. So yes, it does happen in other industries. Stop being a big baby.

You aren't paying a monthly subscribtion fee for the menu to arrive at your door every month either.  Thats an important difference.  And I cannot think of a single time where a new menu item was advertised at burger king that wasn't delivered.  If I want the relatively new angus burger I can go to any burger king in the country and get one.   And it will be delicous and satisfying.

If I paid for a magazine about home and garden, and I got a motorcycle magazine in the mail, guess whats going to happen?  The magazine subscription is going to get cancelled.   This type of behavior SOE and other MMORPG companies pratice does not fly in any other industry period.

I played eq2 when it launched and one of the major complaints I had back then which was echoed many times was that every character looked the same.  Every tank in the game had the same dingy plate metal armor.  SoE said that the issue was that each armor piece had to be individually created for every race.  A solution to this problem was to come up with a skeletal system that would enable them to create one armor model and have it map to all the races.

Since that time they have released a lot of updates and expansions.  Today this problem no longer exists esp with the higher end.  If you run around a bunch of players none of them look the same.  I don't see the issue you describe with casters either I have seen many different appearances.  Now maybe a lot of it is textures or minor changes but I guess I'm fine with that.  What I'm happy to see is that everyone looks pretty unique.  So for me the issue I had several years ago when I was screaming at SoE to fix the equipment variety no longer exists.  How they solved the problem doesn't matter to me in the slightest.  So I think they just addressed it differently and the problem doesn't exist to users the way it used to so doing a skeletal revamp is either Not working out as planed or not worth the effort given what it brings.

So as I said if that is all you are looking for I think this is a non issue...

If thats your complaint, you must hate every new game thats been released in the last two years. For example... LOTRO has the worst character customization I've ever seen. You get like 6 choices of hair style and 6 choices of face, then you get to change the eye color and the hair color and thats it.

If you want to complain about customization, at least focus it where it belongs.

Maybe I didn't express it well.  The complaint wasn't about character customization or comparisons to other games.  The issue was AT RELEASE eq2 had very few armor sets.  So every lvl 50 fighter class wore the exact same armor set.  They all ran around in dull metal plate.  You could look at any 50 lvl character and tell what class they were or at least archtype by the clothing they wore.  This was when the whole skeletal discussion originated.

So it has nothing to do with character customization.  The discussion point is about skeletal customization and the complaint that SoE didn't implemented it.  My point is that in the past several years they HAVE added many new armor sets and it is no longer the case that players look the same.  There IS good variety in the game now of various appearances.  So the need for skeletal systems is really no longer an issue.

Well, I have posted it before, and I would love to be proven wrong on the utter lack of variety and unique armor/clothing pieces.  I just haven't seen it yet.  What I have seen is the same armor and clothing models reused over and over.  SOE tries to trick people into thinking they have a huge variety by recoloring and retexturing the same models.  I will post examples.  I would love it if someone could show me this 'mythilogical' variety.

Case in point: EQ2 the one robe wonder!  To note, what you see here is far beyond launch, this is around GU48.

You can look here forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m to see some of the variety of appearances and with the appearance tab you can mix and match any sets you like.

Small thing, really? Well, carry on enjoying the ridiculously limited choices in clothes and armours which this new system was to change for all races. EQ2 is past its peak now anyway. It's just there to serve its established raider community. EQ2 needs to be voted as the MMO with one of the worst engines ever! What engine assigns shadows and other graphic rendering to CPU and can't utilize the power of today's GPU's fully because of this design flaw in the engine?

Dear Iammmo and all who find fault with EQ2,

How dare you come to this spotless, pristing shrine to the gaming goodness that is EQ2 and sully it with your opinion supported by facts and experience?! What is wrong with you all that you feel compelled to comment on a game for which you hold an opinion, in an open and free forum provided for and dedicated to that game? Really. Can't you find a better place to go and exchange ideas about what you feel  is lacking in this, the "most-fun-and-awesome-game-ever-created-because-I-play-it" (MFAAGECBIPI) ?

Look, I don't go into your house and tell you to clean up your room, or that your fence needs painting, or that your car is dirty. Why do you feel the need to come here to this shrine dedicated to MFAAGECBIPI and tell us true-blue acolytes that we need better skeletons or something? My skeleton fits and is just fine, thank you. Can't you go to the WOW boards and complain about EQ2 there instead? Or something?

    I mean really.

What did EQ2 ever do to you? It's old now and doddering and wears dentures! Why talk about how it chews with its mouth open in public. And drools?

You're all really annoying me, and because in the end this entire site (and especially the parts related to the MFAAGECBIPI) is really about me and my enjoyment, you should all just . . . stop, I guess.

    Babies. Babies. Babies, babies, babies.

    Nyah.

    Best to you all.

And just to further my point about SOE being bold face LIARS, just look at the Station Cash thread.

Yeah, I just love how things are to hard to fix or they don't have enough resources to do projects in their games, but they sure have enough developers to devote to anything that they can slap a price tag on.

It really shows where SOEs priorities are at.

You know, it really makes me wonder.  Did the skeletal revamp get pulled because they worked on cash store instead?  You know, the complete opposite of what they said they were going to do and the complete opposite of what players wanted?

Its just a little history repeating itself, yet again.   SOE is no longer a leader in online entertainment since the Original Everquest and is slowly driving itself to death.  This last stunt just shows desperation for additional revenue in an attempt to stay afloat with their games losing subscribers daily.  At least I can take comfort in knowing that.

What SOE has become these days, is a leader of being the laughing stock of the online community,  a leader of decieving its subscribers, and a leader of lies.

I hope SOE, VG:SoH, AoC and all the other failing MMORPGs is a lesson and wake up call to the industry.  But apparantly nobody still has learned from the lessons of NGE.  Its no wonder this genre is full of stagnant, failing games with the exception of WoW which is begging to show age.  When will someone start to wake the F up and revitalize this genre of games with something truly amazing again?

The only eye Smed, or SOE overall, would have on Eve Online is if they can buy it.. immediately do a combat revamp that no-one wants, say "but the players wanted it!" when it isn't well received and then place it on back-burner status, receiving only the absolute bare minimum support to keep it going.
Sound ridiculous? Just look at all the other MMOs they've purchased and have done next to nothing with... Vanguard, on some level, being the only exception.

Sad to see, is it not? But then, I gave up the hope people will really stand up to promises and act long ago. Heck, most humans are sheep in important RL matters, so why should they not in trivial games!?

Maybe most people dont expect SOE to do any better.

It's weird going back to these older threads and posts, and how so many even as of 12/8 wondered, "what's going on".

We now know what's been taking SoE's resources, so much so to release a buggy expansion despite beta testing (the mount was a major selling point, but even screwed that up to rush it out the door. Even weeks later, still haven't fixed it).

So now anything like these new animation models, will no doubt come through LoN and/or the item mall.

In games today there's a huge stock of assets and libraries these publishers have -- some test models, some real items that just never got programmed into the game. So in essence, these items in EQ2 are often garage sale stuff, abandoned for release, but sitting around collecting dust until now.

And then folks wonder why there's no matching sets of things, where their housing looks like a flea market? Now they'll be buying the literal trash (and for some even smiling gladly thinking it was actually made for them).
