World of Warcraft is surely the best. I am playing Stress Test at the moment, crafting system is so nice, and there are plenty of abilities and skills for warriors as well.
I am looking foward to World of Warcraft. I have not tried any alpha or betas yet, but think from all the fuzz and talk that this will be a rather good MMORPG.
But I have also heard that SWG should be really nice. Especially if you are a star wars fanatic...

There is no "best MMORPG". All of them are made for different intended target markets, and playstyles. Many of them have FREEEE trials so you can see how much you like, or dislike each one.
Dark Age of Camelot, EvE Online, Anarchy Online, and many others have FREEE trials. Click on all the names in the left menu to see which ones have free trials. Also click on "Game List" tab near the top of this page, then click on the names of the games on the list for reviews, and more information about possible free trials.
take it from a star wars fanatic that swg sucks.... no matter how star warsy you are it doesnt have the star wars immersion feel to it. I dont care what jtl changes if what happens on the ground remains the same it will never feel authentic. Everquest also happens to suck... hence my new assertion soe sucks. EQ2 is gonna suck. NO PVP = SUCK. I reccomend you check out either daoc or WOW or guildwars when they come out. Only because ive tried it all... i can share my opinion with you of course im as jaded and psychotic as the next mmorpg masochist.. mm stands for massively masochistic.
Can you please expand upon your thoughts on WoW? I am definitely interested in getting in on this next MMORPG, should HZ crumble. From your own experiences with it, please shed some light on some unique, fun, or even unusual aspects of the game you really liked.
Well I'm in Wow stress test aswell and so far, it's got a lush enviorment, nice graphics and really colorful, the unique characteristics are great. It's fun all over, but I currently have 2 issues with it.
(1) They need a way to mod your character at level up, increase stats what not, not a uniform bonus, since all lev 4 elves have the same stats... I hate that
(2) Character creation needs ALOT more detail. I'm guessing they are holding back with it, cause I hate the fact that all elves all humans, all trolls ect ect.. are the same height and weight. I wanna make a short fat elf, and hey need nore faces, hair ect.. as well, was really limited. I didn't like that.
I'd have to say Guild Wars. I tried the demo and found I couldn't stop playing. PvP is outstandingly fun. PvE is outstandingly awesome! Finally! A game where endless leveing is not the focus!
Well I had the chance to look/play WoW at GamesLive in London past Sat. I was not impressed much. My first 10 levels were repetative. I know this is nothing to judge the whole game, but to be honest what I saw looked like EQ v1.3.1. Graphics are the same as EQ was a while back. Gameplay was simplistic. The good things were very little downtime, and improvements on things like quests and NPCs. But I saw nothing that would make me want to invest time and energy into it. I will have to turn my eyes to EQ2 when it comes out. BEST MMORPG??? I dont think there is such a think. They all cater for different tastes. I personally dont like PvP but there are ppl that love it! Its like asking whats the best ever food dish!
No Swords or silly Elfs and stuff, Massive universe with no sharding, Sci Fi/Space sim, PVP (if you choose, sometimes if you dont )
Holds the record for the highest number of folk online (10700 atm and rising ) in a single universe, any of which you might run into.
The best skill system ever developed, you can train skills online and offline so even a casual gamer can progress. The number of skills are huge you really have to decide what it is you want to do.
Awsome graphics even after a year I still look around sometimes and think "wow! omg!".
Really diverse skill tree, and total freedom to go where you want and do what you want to. Become whatever you want loved or hated by all.
The best community of gamers I've ever seen, The forums are great fun and have a life unto themselves. (Hats off to the mods for keeping the dorks at bay). still get the old "I want EVERYTHING MY WAY" posts but thats life I guess.
Free expansions (Shiva = huge upgrade Nov 3rd) and constant updates and the game universe is huge, after playing since launch I've seen maybe 5%.
Not an EA game lolz. EVE Online has been developed by CCP a true independant, A Few Icelandic guys wanted to make the game they wanted and have total control over it.... no money hungry megacorp pulling the strings.
EVE-Online is the most fun Ive ever had with a game and Ive been a gamer since Pong never had a game keep me playing for so long and that has a lot to do with the other gamers and how they affect the universe, anyone can have an impact.
Have to say it can be a love hate relationship but if you are a mature type of gamer it makes it all the more fun. The trial is free but its not long enough to really get a feel for the game imo. and the client is pretty big but well worth the DL time to get a glimpse inside
Doesn't seem like anyone has mentioned Shadowbane yet. That's definitely a game that's worth a try. There is a 2 week free trial.
In Shadowbane, two weeks a few hours per day play time is enough to level a character high enough to try some PvP and participate in a siege. Unlike most MMO type games, this one is not about a grind at all, leveling is just a quick thing to do at the beggining to develop/customize a character, then it's all about PvP and such. And unlike most MMO type games where PvP is an afterthought, or segregated on it's own little server off in a corner while the majority plays on PvE only servers, Shadowbane is all about PvP from the ground up, there is no safe way to play--talk about keeping you on your toes, the excitement here comes from the other players...
Just make sure you find yourself a good guild to join as soon as possible. The game is not for everyone, and even with the many improvements over the past year there are still a few irritating technical issues, but if you get into it, with city building and destruction, politics, and all PvP all the time everywhere, it is one of the most long-term engaging and exciting MMOs out there.
If you do the two week free trial, level up to R5+, join a decent guild, and find nothing enjoyable in the game, then you've lost nothing but a couple weeks of game time--like I said, even though what it offers is pretty unique and definitely exciting, it doesn't seem to be for everyone...
WoW does sound awesome and every screen shot ive seen looks freakin tight. also for those who like MMORPG to have a good story it continues where WC3 left off. definitly cant wait till it comes out.
Get one of the games comeing out, is the best thing. The saga of ryzom is a game where you just cant buy your weaopons, Etc. From anywhere. Its where 1 person can get a name for there work. Its all player made stuff, And skill base everything you do. but its not for kids that like to be lvl 70 in a day. Its a take your time game , so fun is in hard work not something you know in 5 mins . You wont to play a mmorpg for years not days. And not everyone is going to be a crafter That is good . so you seek for well know crafters to do biz. with.I like it cuz everything wears out ,And you got to have stuff fix by the players, That stuff keeps everyone working hard to be the richest and most power= Rich.So all you fast lvl get the game over in 1 day go some where else!
