Darkfall question

ElendilasXElendilasX Member Posts: 243

I have seen many time this phrase:

"Darkfall Open Beta will end in early December. "

Am I getting soemthing wrong? Open Beta shouldnt mean that players will get chance to join through invites from such sites as mmorpg.com and official site and it wont be just few Chosen Ones?

So if that is right, how it can end in early(i think it is first 1-10 days of month)  December if it hasnt even started?

If so and they gonna start it in few next days, I say it will be (probably) failure. Why? Because how can they fix bugs in less then week. Especially if they will work on it as they worked on creating game (8 years, right?). And all games have bugs, especially in betas.

Because Aventurine are stupid. Or naive. Or both.

Most MMO developers wouldn't even mention when open beta is going to start (beyond perhaps a vague 'soon') nevermind when it's going to end. No doubt Aventurine were sure when they'd be starting open beta in early december... three months ago. Now they just look stupid, and have unnecessarily given ammo to the trolls (OMG an MMO pushing back it's release date!? THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS EVER HAPPENED! VAAAAAAPOOOOOOOR!).

You can get away with an open beta that only lasts a week though (it's happened before). It's not like any actual testing gets done during an open beta anyway - the cost of keeping the servers up and tech support on the pay-roll for a few poorly-written bug reports is ridiculous. Better to spend the money hiring professional testers.

Open betas serve as stress-tests these days.

Yeap, especially AoC and WAR got pretty well... Both of them had open betas with really many bugs (especially AoC) but they still released games. What is point of open beta then. So yeah, you are probably right about stress-tests. Hmm sorry for this offtopic.

Just to know, I am really not interested in DF (i am just folowing news of all mmorpg) and meaning of this thread is not to promote, troll, laugh at DF, but simply asking those question above. Of course I COULD try to read other topic, but there is probably hundreds of them and 90% of them is: "this game is shit", "this game is not real" and "this game will be awesome"....

You act as if this is the first time that Darkfall has announced a date or time frame for the beta to start.  This has happened over and over the past five years with Darkfall.  So certainly each time, the chances of it being called VAAAAAAPOOOOOOR are increased and given even more merit, wouldn't you agree?

...and by 'over and over in the last 5 years' you mean... once?

Ah poor dear, can't work out how the quote feature works? You put YOUR text in the box with YOUR name at the top! MY text goes in the box with MY name at the top. What, is that too hard?

Oh yes, THIS is the only time that they have announced a beta. Keep telling yourself that. And when they announce it's coming in 2009, I suppose this year never really counted either did it?

Once beside now. So twice in the last 5 years. OMG IT'S PRACTICALLY EVERY WEEK! Hehe.

I like the green text though. Very pretty. Unfortunately, it's not going to make your posts any less stupid.

Depends on if you count the 2005 Clan Beta that never materialized I suppose.  Although some would argue that the constant "Soon" statement does kinda lose it's meaning when it turns out to be years... rather than in fact Soon.

When the developers of WAR say, hey, we have to cut some classes and some capital cities, because we couldn't get them in before release, and we're pushing back release, nobody claims vapor.

When a company that said they were doing a beta in 2003 pushes back a release in 2008, it's a bit different.

    Capiche?
