I visit this website daily, and up until a few weeks ago I didn't even know about this game, but look at it today, it's right under Warhammer Online, this game just snuk up on this website out of nowhere. Is it really that good, I didn't expect turn based combat in an MMORPG to ever work out, but by the looks of it, it's latest and greatest. So, what makes it so good?
PS. I never played the game, just seen a video and noticed it came out of nowhere on this website.

well there's this talk about how it's the first turn-based mmo and stuff.
but what really brought me into this game is the storyline. i have long been a fan of myths and the story of atlantis is one of it. another thing i liked about this is the fact that the map is based on a real world one only with ancient/mythical sites in it like the hanging gardens of babylon and angkor wat. the NPCs are also based on real/mythical characters like pandora (greek mythical character) and scheherazade (the princess in arabian nights).

The most common pro that people give this game is that it is totally different than the other mmos out there. I personally love the combat system, it is very well done. Instead of mashing buttons a bunch, you have to plan ahead to be successful (especially late game).
The advertising that NDoors has done, also has helped alot. Before they started thier 'campaign' there was only about 10k players. Now I wouldn't doubt that number to be well over a couple hundred thousand.
The game progresses fairly fast, dare I say faster than even WoW does (on my alt I got to level 32 in a day). The game also provides a new fighting style. Some will not like turn-based due to the lack of an action game feel to it. Others, like myself, will love this game because it is rather like a game of chess, you have to think a move or 2 ahead.
The only downside that I can see for this game is that it is Item Mall and Asian. Most will not give it a fair chance just for those 2 facts. The facts remain that you can easily play the entire game and never buy a single item from the item mall (albeit longer), and even if it is asian, it's not your typical grindfest you see in other asian games.
If you choose to play this game, just remember, it can be played totally free and you haven't really played the game fully until level 50ish. Until then, alot of the quests can be rather meh, because they're teaching you everything you need to know for later on (which you will need).
Overall it's a very fun and addicting game past level 50. Level 50 comes rather fast, you could make it there in a week easily. After that the real fun begins. Post level 100 the game becomes even more fun. Even though you spend alot of time just grinding your levels, alot of that time is also spent farming for things like crystals, or crafting items to make millions of gold. So even though technically you're grinding, it feels more like you're just fighting this group of mobs to level up your crafting, or gather crystals to upgrade a merc, etc. Very Very Fun!
Good thing about Atlantica:
1. Free to play.
2. Very well done combat system (my opinion)
3. Interesting storyline.
4. Nice crafting system.
5. City system.
Also there is more good aspects, but these is just pop in my head when i just think word Atlantica Also pvp is very hmm.. probably intriguing is good word. There can be many variations of formations, so many different styles. Also i think there will be many more mercenaries so even more formations. Stamina is good thing for casual players, but not big problem for harcore ones too, you just need party and you can fight ~3x battles before you run out of it. And one of rare games nowdays where it is worth to party because of additional exp. There is many people playing so it is easy to party, community is also nice.
Overall this game is just great. If you dont believe me or if you think that this game is not for you, or you dont like any specific thing just give it a TRY. Anyways it is FREE, requirements are LOW, it isnt very big one so fast to download.
P.S. I am not promoting it or something, i am writing from my heart, maybe overall game blinded me to not see it bad side, but i dont care. Anyways I dont play it anymore because i reached almost max lvl and i am not really guild dungeons fan or pvp fan, as well as I hate alts( no good reason), so I quit for time being and will be back when there is new content.
P.P.S. I was playing this game for few weeks (harcore playing) and really didnt get why. Only recently I understood it. This game is more chalenging then other games (WoW, War, AoC these for example but almost all). Boss battles can be hard, zones where monsters can join ongoing battles (not only Shadow Dungeons) is really fun and challenging, you just got to finish battle fast, or fight 3X or more monster then you have mercenaries. It is really different from grinding other games where you kill one enemy at time, and if there is mass you just have to pull them. And dont say it is impossible to solo shadow dungeons, i done that, but that was massacre, with each turn you hope that enemy wont use specific spells, wont attack specific mercenary. IT WAS JUST EXCITING!!!
hey man! i guess you should go to www.playatlantica.com and start downloading the game. but i just want to warn you about the downloading period. it takes a while but of course after installing it and trying the game, you'll get to realize that it is very much worth the wait.
Thank you all for the information, at first I was kind of turned off to the turn based system, but having listened to your information I think I will give it a try, and I also just realized that the reason I suck at PVP is because I go only one speed, thats my speed lol, so maybe a turn based MMO would be good for me.
have you downloaded the game man? its reall cool... you should go to the Argos server. i play there. just give me a buzz if you need any help. anyway, you should study your gameplan man so you team will be a better one.

Whats your name in the game? Because I need some help figuring out the game.
a relevant comment about atlantica online: (MAYBE THIS COULD HELP)
Tactical Combat - To the commenter who said turn-based combat should be single-player only, all I can ask is why? Turn-based combat in many ways lends itself to more strategy than your average twitch titles, and Atlantica bears this out. There are many ways to be successful in combat, from defensive grinds to area-of-effect/disabling builds to brute force lightning builds. Some may be more or less effective against certain monsters/player types, but that also requires adaptation and the ability to learn.
Crafting - Every item in the game can be crafted, and there are over 30 crafting skills. There are 3 sets of weapons and armor that are at the top of their tiers and can only be created through crafting. I'm only a low-level crafter but it looks like there are several hundred crafting components. Mid-level crafters can also gain crafting exp by training those of lower level, so there is no relying on NPC's to level up your skills.
Economy - Everything can be bought/sold on the open market, with the exception of a very few licenses (items that make the game not easier tactically, but administratively, such as the ability to teleport to a location you have been to and additional inventory slots, etc). The crafting/economy sections of the game are a little bulky (and dear lord I wish they would alphabatize the tables), but are as fleshed out as those in Eve Online.
Guilds - Guilds can take over towns through an auction process, which allows them benefits such as tax revenue and additional crafting ability. Guilds can combine into nations which in turn can war on other nations.
Help System/Teamwork Building - There are a number of devices embedded in the game that help ease players over the sometimes steep learning curves of the game. A mentor system allows an older player to partner with a newer one, providing benefits to both. The mentor receives bonus points which can be used to purchase special items and a sizable cash payment once the mentoree reaches a certain level; the mentoree receives basically an unlimited helpdesk able to answer the majority of questions that may arise, as well as occasionally providing monetary or item assitance.
Additionally, there is a 'help' system that sends a person's question to everyone in the general area that might be able to help; if a respondant is actually helpful and answers the question, they receive a small reward.
Knowledge Tome - Not quite as extensive as Warhammer's Tome of Knowledge, the Knowledge Tome (I don't know if it even has an official name) contains information on every creature you meet, all the quest givers, crafting teachers, NPC's, abilities, and locations of the game. Monster knowledge is actually improved as you fight each creature, to where it will eventually keep a database for you of which monsters drop which types of loot, equipment and crafting items.
Consensual PVP - There is ranked league combat where you gain some exp/rewards whether you win or lose. Additionally, there are titles associated with reaching certain tiers. There are also weekly championships with some pretty hefty prizes on the line.
It is true that along with some great systems, there is a good deal of wonkiness to be found as well. The plot is pretty linear and is obviously translated from the original Korean, but I actually find myself becoming attached to the storyline/world. For the commenter who said it looks like 'another generic pseudo-medieval fantasy MMO', you are both correct and incorrect. Some cliched themes such as family, loyalty, betrayal are here, but the monsters of the world, while including some generic staples, also includes some twisted and very cool creations. Unicorns with swords instead of horns, parrots with additional appendages, winged tigers, jaguars that summon little hordes of jaguars, human-inspired wasps, tuxedo-wearing butlers with swords for arms, among dozens of others. I actually almost quit the game when I first had to do battle with a pack of Deer, but after some fights with the various denizens of the world, the 'offness' of the creatures shines as a strength.
If you remember yourself being addicted to games like King's Bounty, Disciples, or Final Fantasy 7, then Atlantica will almost certainly appeal to you. I didn't expect to fall for it like I have, but if you want an MMO that really is different, it might be worth a shot. It is free after all, and even that is well done. While there is an item mall, none of the items provides significant tactical value, and are convenience-driven. I played the first 50 levels without paying a cent; I did end up buying some licenses recently, but more because I wanted to support a developer that actually created a unique, enjoyable product rather than any ingame need.
Oh, and if all that is not enough, the female toons are hawt!;)

Thank you so much for informing about the mentor system lol, because I feel a little lost, after all this isn`t your trditional MMORPG.
It's not true that every item in the game can be crafted; many cannot be. The crafting system is of the "something stupid to grind levels in" variety, which is fine if you like that sort of thing, but I don't.
At least up to level 48 (at which I quit), most of the fights are too easy. The only real exceptions are boss fights, and when you take on more than one group at a time--the latter of which can be nearly impossible at times People say that that changes at level 95, at which point the game morphs into a traditional Korean grinder where you nearly have to buy stuff off the item mall to advance.
It's not a bad game, and the turn-based combat is, at least, very different from most other online games. But do be warned that they keep adding more stuff to the item mall, so even if you think that buying +50% experience potions, scrolls that do massive damage, etc., aren't unbalancing enough to annoy you, that could readily change.
I've seen a lot of fanboys of Atlantica trolling these forums trying to tell you this game is the best etc etc.
It's really not that great. If you are really into it's style it's good, but even then it doesn't deserve to be on top of MMO list. I'm assuming a million fanboys from the site came over and ranked it 10 a couple hundred times.
And to be honest I nearly killed myself play because of the annoying as sounds in this game. And on top of that it's EXTREMELY buggy.
hey thanks for this thread Relentless. i was also researching about atlantica recently which is why i stumbled upon this site. im still downloading the game currently so ive got a few questions about it too. first of which is.. what's the best server for a newbie like me?
