Some ?s about this game

Considering buying it but I have some questions

1.) Is it like a normal FPS game where you just move your crosshair over a target and fire, or do you have to highlight the target and wait for the crosshair to lock on like Neocron (Ew.)

2.) Can you explore as well, like can you wander outside the city and shoot mobs and stuff.. Are there even mobs? Like wolves spiders etc.

3.) Can you swim in the ocean, and possibly even swim from one island to another (lol, but seriously?)

4.) Is the hit detection ok? Do you have to trail, or aim ahead of your target to compensate for lag, or is it like 'Anti-Lag' where, "if you hit it on your screen, he takes damage."

5.) Do characters level up at all? And is it the typical "Level 1, ding level 2, ding level 3" or do you level up different skills, like running, swimming, recoil handling, accuracy, etc?

6.) If #5 is true, is it hard to level? Is it like most games where you have to spend weeks/months getting your char capped, just so he stands a chance for a PvP battle?

7.) Does shooting different areas of the player do different things? Ex: shoot 'em in the legs and it slows them down, shoot them in the head and it does more damage?

8.) Are there a lot of different types of guns, and some similar, like Gun1 and Gun2 might do the same damage, but Gun1 fires a bit faster, while Gun2 has 10 more bullets per clip? Or do all good players use mostly the same weapons?

9.) Are there melee weapons and can people use them effectively in firefights? (lol)

10.) Are there still a lot of people that play? How many servers are there, and on average how many people are on at a time?

11.) Is there what was called in Neocron, "ninja-hacking" enemy outposts in PlanetSide? This is where you wait for the opposing clan/faction to have very few players on, so you can steal all their fortresses with little to no resistance. This sucks because you can have like 4 outposts in Neocron, then when you get on the next morning, someone ninja-hacked them all while all your clan was sleeping, so no one could defend it.

12.) Can you loot the bodies of dead players for their ammo, guns, even armor?

13.) Is it possible to randomly kill an ally of the same faction? Or do you have to ask them to duel you by clicking on them and choosing Duel, or something.

14.) If no, are random PKers a problem?

15.) Does shooting in firefights all the time get boring?

16.) Do you lose anything if you die? XP, money, your inventory, etc.

17.) How is the character customization?

That's about all I can think of for now, thanks in advance for any replies.

    1) It's like a normal FPS game.

    2) You can explore, but there are no mobs, only other people.

    3) You can't swim, but you can fly.

    4) Lag is slim to none. With a good connection you shoudn't need to shoot in front of your target.

    5) they do level up, and you get experience for killing other players.

    6) Well, you may have to spend months leveling, but what level you are really isn't that important. A level 4 has pretty much the same chance of killing a level 20 as another level 20 does, in most cases. A level 3 could still have the "best" weapon or vehicle in the game. The only difference is, with a level 20, you could have the best vehicle AND best weapon in the game. But since you can't use both a gun and vehicle at the same time(unless the gun is part of the vehicle), it won't really matter when you actually fight, it will be based almost entirely on skill.

    Ex.

A level 3 - Gets the Jackhammer. Goes out and dies. Comes back and must get the plasma rifle again because it is the only thing he certed.

1 level 20 - Grabs his Jackhammer. goes ut and dies. Respawns, but instead of only being able to choose a jackhammer, he can choose from a wide variety of vehicles/weapons/armor.

A highe level doesn't have any more health or 'strength", or anything like that.

    7) It doesn't matter where you shoot them. This is to create less lag. I think the devs said if there were 2 different sections of the body(body and head), it would double the lag.

    8) There is no one "uber" weapon. Each faction has one gun that is good for killing tanks, one for killing infantry, one for shooting down aircraft, etc.

    9) There is a knife, and it can be semi-useful when using a cloaking device and trying to sneak into a base. If you are right behind the person, it will take about 2-3 hits to kill them(each hit takes about a second).

    10) This I'm not sue about. After playing for 7 months, I quit about 2 months ago. There was a good number of people playingn when I left, and from what I heard, there are still plenty of people playing. there are 3 servers, one west coast, east coast, and europe. it never said how many people were logged on though. But there is sure to always be at least one major fight, usually more.

    11) Yes, but usually before they get through an entire continent your faction will notice. In fact, "ninja-hacking" is how most big battles(100 v. 100) are started.

    12) Yes, but not armor. This is the only way to get guns from other factions.

    13) You can PK someone are your own side, but you get "grief points." After so many grief points you get a weapon lock, so you won't be able to shoot anymore. It's a good system, and there is very little teamkill in this game(you can kill about 10 people befoe you get a 5 minute wepaon lock I think?). Grief points go down after you kill people from other factions I think..

    14) Nope.

    15) Well, this is kind of a hard question to answer :P . For me, it got boring after the 6th month, some people sooner, others later.

    16) Just respect. :)

    17) Hmm.. I don't remember, I haven't created a character in over 6 months.. But I know there is barely any customization, if any at all. I know you get a backpack for reaching a certain rank.. but thats about it. I don't even know if you can change anything when your creating your character. I guess this was to reduce lag, too.

    Thanks a lot image

One thing that worries me, is that there is no PvM which is sometimes pretty enjoyable (as long as you're not killing the saaame thing over and over and over just to level).

The other thing is the question about guns. Since it's a shooter and that's the only thing the game focuses on, I'd expect like at least 30 different types of assault rifles, all with their own advantages/disadvantages. Ex: this one is less accurate but is higher caliber than this accurate but lower caliber one. Or this one has twice as many bullets per clip as this one, but less range than this one. There is seriously only 1 good gun for doing a certain job? Killing players, or destroying vehicles etc? What about pistols, sniper rifles, crossbows (high tech ones, not like a wood bow), shotguns? Are there only like 4 or so types of each of those? image

I read about the corpse bug and it seems annoying, has it been fixed or is it being worked on? And what exactly is the corner bug (not how to do it but just the effect).

I also read about the alien "bending sequence" which sounded pretty cool. But there are no aliens (players or computer-controlled) to shoot after that?

There is no type of PVE in this game whats so ever..There are also tons of bugs in this game like the corpse or corner bugs (more then any other I have seen since alot are created with each patch) not to mention cheats are starting to really creep up in the game with little done by the development team to fix or even address this.. Here is a one example http://psforums.station.sony.com/ps/board/message?board.id=psdiscussion&message.id=264567&no_redir=true.  This particular cheat can be done with other weapons, vehicles, and planes.... Sadly PS has gone the way of alot of other FPS games with uber leet hackers taking over... Its really sad at times when you kill someone and your greeting with a tell saying how your using a cheat.. I dont blame people really since the cheats are out there...

I really dont think PS is the game your looking for here... Its mainly just a FPS game done in a massive way... If your more into MMOFPS type games might a suggest you try Endless Ages (which doesn not have much of a fan base) or Nerocron (which has a little better fan base then EA)... Both these games offer PVE and PVP... Also you might wanna look into Face of Mankind which should be comming out real soon.. It looks very promising as a true MMOFPS.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

Please do me a favor and NEVER EVER EVER suggest Neocron to anyone. SERIOUSLY. It's a buggy game with unbalanced classes and it's full of hackers even after they tried to crack down of them. People openly exploit the LE chips and there are spies in every faction reading the global chats so they can get on their main and report everything. The factions do not make sense btw since you can have 4 characters all in opposing factions to eachother, therefore, you can kill someone who is clearly your enemy, only to have the same person log on to his main, which is clearly ALLIED to you, and gank you because you killed his alt. Oh and a lot of the GMs are corrupt and give stuff to their in-game friends, which is unfair, or spawn stuff in their friends apartments and give them more stuff, etc. The game is awful, all Reakktor wants is money, and with Neocron: BDoY they want it even more. They are doubling the monthly price and the game is exactly the same as Neocron 1.

Sorry, not flaming you, but Neocron. It just sucks.

Endless Ages, I thought that was like a sword/mage type game? Is it like an action-based mmo? Well, I'll go look into that after this. I think FOMK had a good idea, but the graphics looked awful. Then again they were from early beta, so I might look at it again to see if anything looks better.

That Endless Ages game actually looks pretty sweet. The graphics look bad but not too bad.  Looked at FOMK again and the graphics seemed to have improved a little, but some of the models suck, especially like, all of the female models, they just look crappy.  But the atmosphere and the guns looked great, in one pic it almost looked like Deus Ex, which I like.  Another game that caught my eye but I have no idea about is Mimesis.  It got a low rating but has anyone played it?  The screenies don't look that bad..
