Best Feature: Combat

I just wanted to throw this out because of all the MMORPGs I've seen, World of Warcraft has the best combat system I've ever seen.

So far I've only seen basic variants of the standard issue. You attack something and then you run with either a spell or a skill. Some go a bit deeper than this, like DAOC with the ability to chain styles together (sometimes a requirement) but ultimately it was no different than the rest. The thing I like about World of Warcraft is it keeps the simplicity of simply spells and skills, but it throws in a few wrenches for the other classes.

For example, Warriors. Warriors use styles. Basically you pick between defensive, battle, and aggressive. This has been done before, I know, but you also now have the rage system. Instead of having warrior skills on a set timer (which they are on timers as well) you have to build up rage in order to use them, and the individual styles are almost totally exclusive, whereas other games have a significant amount of overlap.

Another good example, Rogues. Rogues are the pure damage dealers, and aren't made out to try and be a traditional rogue (even though they do get skills like stealth and pickpocket). In WoW, each mob can get up to 5 "combo points". Certain rogue skills, when used on a mob, will add 1 combo point. Once you have a combo point (anywhere from 1-5) you can use another set of skills to do damage based on how many combo points you've raised up. Plus, instead of using rage like warriors, or mana like mages, they have a "stamina" system where you refresh stamina like mana or health (although very quickly I might add). Here's an example of the kind of damage you can do. With my level 2 Gnome Rogue, all basic starting equipment I racked up 5 points on a single mob, doing an average of about 3-10 damage per hit (including my special skill to add combo points). When I hit the finalize skill I did 64 points of damage. 64! Needless to say, I love rogues:). Plus, future skills add even more options. I've got a skill that if it hits it stuns my opponent and adds a combo point. So I'll pull the monsters with a thrown weapon, stun it right when it gets to me, quickly circle behind it and backstab it, then hit my final skill. That kills mobs my level, and leaves anything a level or two higher fleeing for it's life.

The combat in RYL is unique Ill give it that (Hardly fun though IMO... having to hold down the right mouse button to "Charge" a spell or hold down the left mouse button to attack continously is a pain).... but the game sucks as a whole but I wont go into why image

It's alot like FFXI's battle system except instead of "TP" you get "combo points", and you also have skill-chains. FFXI was probably my favorite battle system, but the problem was that it takes so long to get to that battle system(takes forever to find a party).

I wish they would've used FFXI's mob-claiming system, too. Powerleveling is sooo easy in this game.

While I'm leveling for days and days, somebody can just get a buddy and ding 40 in one day?

I love the combat but I will say after 22 levels of watching my dwarf fight as a warrior.  It really is kinda stale sometime.  He does a lot of the same swinging behind his back.  The styles I have tried fury and defense both and fury allows for some fire effects and what not.  But over all I thought there could be more moves.  What do you all think?

I have found that at level 8, my tauren warrior, has a bit above average, once you reach lvl 10 you gain many new skills, when my hunter reached level 10, I had to start moving things around so I could have my useful skills in one bar, now he has 1 bar for fighting, and 1 for his pet, the healing, feeding, reviving spells, fishing, etc... They have enough skills. As for adding levels, they have levels, if you meant they need to have an option to choose your stats, I feel less pressured to make hard decisions, but then again, some people like a bit more charectar stat custumization.

Also, as for RYL, it needs MUCH more skills, they have very few.
