Finally Reinstalled...What's Changed?

So I'm reinstalling CoV after an almost three year hiatus.  I have a few questions:

1)  Can I lay down an individual lair?  Reason I ask is so I can create stuff (and generally just hang out with my evil self).

2)  Is there more solo stuff to do?

3)  Name the three biggest changes since about summer, 2005.

They turned CoH/CoV into a single game, you can play both now.

    Jack Emeret got Kicked out.

They fixed the leveling curve. This should help with all the alts you have parked around 20.

Possibly crafting if you didn't know about that.

There's a Black Market and an economy.

Various new power pools. Just to name a few, dual blades, willpower, pain suppression, shields, thugs,  and various cross faction powers beeing avaliable to the ennemy.

You can select a ready made costume if you're lazy.

There's the merit system you can turn those in for various rewards.

Not sure if there still is but sometimes you have a rikti invasion event. 3 badges to collect there.

    Rikti war zone got added.

Ouroboros got added. Time travel stronghold where you can go back in time and do missions you missed.

Cimmerora got added, roman style area with a strike force with roman costume pieces as a reward.

Task forces get various difficulty options, giving better rewards the harder they get.

Possibly Patron Powers for villains, how long have you been gone, 3 years?

The "drop a mission" option. Auto complete every 3 days possibly account wide.

Old arch-villains missions are now elite boss on solo teams and/or low diff settings.

And um Villain Epic Archtypes. Arachnos soldier and widow.

You still need to create a personal SG for this.
    2)  Is there more solo stuff to do?
Was there a lack of it before?
    Soloing is still AT-dependant.
Ouroboros may count as a lot of extra solo content, wether you'll find it compelling enough to engange in it a lot is another question (I didn't :p): cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Ouroboros

    3)  Name the three biggest changes since about summer, 2005.
Summer 2005, before CoV release? Dunno why you post in the CoV forum then ;). I'm going to give you my top 3 since issue 7 (I think it was issue 7 that introduced level 50 villains and Grandville+RV, correct me if I'm wrong). And if you must know, I think the biggest change to CoV before I7 must have been the release of CoV (I just couldn't resist :p).

    My personal top 3:
    1) With I13 NCsoft has done their own personal mini-NGE (see Star Wars Galaxies) when trying to "fix" CoX pvp. The game mechanics were completely changed (for pvp only) by replacing the old unbalanced system with an entirely new unbalanced (+severely broken) system.
In the proceedings the red names managed to tell their existing pvp crowd that they were meaningless and that they didn't want them around anyways. At the same time Ex Libris attempted to put the blame for the fact that obviously broken (or just severely unbalanced) gameplay elements made it onto live on the naughty pvp'ers that were running amock on the closed beta boards. It's not like NCsoft could have suspended those players' access to those closed boards, or that most of those broken gameplay elements were actually already reported on those very same closed beta boards by many people out of that same naughty pvp crowd.

Why the devs would want pvp to have different pvp mechanics than pve is beyond me as well, if I wanted to go play a different game, I already could do just that.
That said, my personal number 1 change has to be that with I13 the devs tried to reinvent the pvp game mechanics and failed miserably.
    2) The invention system. It's CoX version of rare loot. This also introduced the curse that all mmorpgs with rare loot suffer: RMT spam, rampant farming, elitism,... But it also allowed for entirely new levels of customization and tremendously increased the power of player characters.
    3) The auction houses: Wentworth's or Black Market.

Actually I was a year off.  I got the game in December 2005 and subscribed on and off between then and summer, 2006.

A lot of great additions (though I didn't try PvPing yet).  I may resub this time.  Thank you for the update, you two!

Don't bother with PvP tbh.  I'm an avid PvPer and it's generally my favorite activity in any MMO I play but CoX probably has the worst PvP I've ever experienced.  That's no hyperbole either; I'm completely serious.  PvP is nothing but geared out stalkers and scrappers that roam around one or two shotting people.  Every once in awhile you come across a blaster or corr... that's about it, really.

And to clarify CoX's crafting isn't actually crafting.  It's just a push button collections system.  Get a recipe, get the parts, go to a crafting station, and push a button.  It's actually pretty lame but then again no one can really accuse CoX of being anything but a shallow experience with little replayability.

I have two fifty villains and the only things I can do on them are three Strike Forces and farming; there is nothing else.

About the above poster statement on crafting.

I'm using 7 toons with about 15-17 auction slots each to monopolize the crafted enhancement market. I keep my cost low and my prices are the best. Right now i'm playing a game with someone buying my stuff and selling it higher. Basicly i'm flooding his inv, i dunno where he puts em :)

Heh, I did that in EvE.  I bought cargo expanders in one place and sold them to newbs at 10 times what I bought.  They were an easy sell.  I would load up a hauler with them bring them in and sell in lots of 15 or 20 at a time.  Trying to sell 50 at a time would cause newcomers to question how 'rare'  they were and the expanders wouldn't sell as fast.

Someone tried to come in and corner the market by buying me out and selling them for about 25 times original cost.  I just kept pulling from inventory and putting them up for the same price I always did.  This person kept buying and repricing at 25X original price. No one would buy his becuase mine were still available.  He disappeared after about 3 days.

It would seem someone is jacking up the salvage prices atm.

I'm not actually too worried, if ppl keep playing they'll put more up. Technicly that person would have limited ressources to deal with that.

I'm putting up bids and hopefully i'll get some salvage.

You'd think that with 1.7k clockwork winder up there would be a few for 250 or under. I mean simple chemical usually sold for 100 at 1.2k.
