I wrote a long post and got bored, so here's the cut down.
The feeback released by Adv' was a little dissapointing to me when I read about the crafting. Personally I'm interested in DF for 1 reason only, the PvP. I know however that DF will be lucky to keep 10k subs if this is all it has.
People like to feel thier game has depth, look at so many of the recently released games where this has been an issue. I guess I just saw DF as SWG done right, with proper PvP. Instead of logging after pvp'ing and wanting rest, I liked the idea of getting a small hunting party together, finding a wildlife rich area, setting up camp and gathering resources etc. But if the crafting sucks what will be the point?
Not even going into the detail of how decent crafting is essential to the end game, longevity and economy. I just hope they dont sell this game short on its crafting as it stands atm beta testers don't seem impressed at all.

They stated you can craft almost every item that exists in Darkfall. How's that for crafting?
PvP is a functional component of the core game but just one small element.
The world is vast has extensive crafting / quests and advanced NPC AI, In the beta people have been kited by goblins where one will move into attack and all the others draw their bow and as the engaged looses health he falls back and draws his bow.
The main PvP will be around Clan/City/kingdom/empire building.
PKers//Gankers have an alignment systems which pushes them into the wilderness if they are idiots.
Clan cities need custom and support to maintain themselves so these places will be safe havens.
Please realise that Aventurine want people to play the GAME, they will not be handing a manual out but there is a lot of detail on how crafting will work and the variety of items that can be made.
Most recipies for crafting are found / bought or come from drops.~(so theres one nice gameplay element), it has also been stated that these can be researched and I could go on or you could just goto the DFO forums.
We may even get 6 month of play before all the lamo walkthrough guides are up on the net (I guess that is what you are looking for right ?)

Beyond the usual importance of crafters in the economy and market etc. developers promised crafter's will play a active role during sieges. Dunno how that was meant but maybe they support through some repair /suplly functionality ...i hope this is still in...

$OE - eternal enemy of online gaming

Yep this + the ffa pvp should make it a great game for crafters.
However another factor, which was touched on in the beta quotes, is that the crafting process is not as in depth at the lower levels as they would like. But just because it isnt as in depth as say SWG was, doesnt mean the end result wont be as needed and the overall experience not be a good one.
Also we have no idea what crafting is like at higher levels yet.
I defintiely agree that the PVP is my main draw to the game, but I have always been a serious crafter and would like something concrete in DF.

I love crafting. I was the first Grandmaster tailor on my EQ server back in classic EQ. Maxing that tradeskill was extremely hard and took a long time, especially since I am primarily a soloer. I really look forward to crafting in Darkfall though I expect I will need to join a clan to protect large crafting projects that require shops.
Well, we know that death = item loss.
This means that either equipment is cheap, and not that important.... or that most players will just play naked.
Wrong on both counts. Most players will immerse themselves and enjoy the game and not constantly worry about gear, at least not to the point of altering their playstyle to such an extreme stupid notion as playing naked. Gear and items will matter otherwise there won't be a reason to pursue them. They just won't be THE deciding factor in combat.
The first person to own a house will be a crafter.
The first person to own a castle will be a crafter.
The first person to own a ship will be a crafter.
On top of that crafting will be huge because of item loss.
They are going with a UO model and in UO I spent on average
5000 gold a day replacing gear.
looks like certain crafting professions may in fact be pretty complex....while others are more simplistic.....possibly very good news...
