I am amazed how little hype this game is getting on this forum. It seems like this is not even news worthy to people here.
Personally I have doubts about this game, but no reason to discuss that now.
Did he say launch is April 2009? Or? Hmm..
I wonder if this will be pushed out too early?!
The game has been in development since 2004, and closed beta started last month. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't sound like April is too early of a release.
I really wan't that all impressed with it. Kinda turned me off the game really. The gameplay along with the graphics seemed to be outdated. Looked like CoX just with more open, outdoor enviornments.

Wow I had no idea it was that close to release. I figure its not getting as much hype because the superhero genre is a bit smaller. On the other hand the dantasy genre is so flooded right now.

That sounds great. CoX has the best combat system of any MMOG ever made IMO. CoX's only flaw is the mission structure. If they have improved upon that then it will be the best MMOG on the market.
As for the graphics, I'll take style over poly count any day. Once you get 50 enemies and players on screen with all the ability effects, my graphics card will probably want to personally thank the Cryptic developers.
I hate how cheesy they made that demo seem. Even the interviewer seemed too underwhelmed to even feign more than nominal interest. Very disappointing. What is the point of putting such pedestrian graphics on the 360 beyond putting the GPU asleep? Not to mention console/pc hybrid mmos have thus far done more harm than good for their developers in the name of creating a unified ui and style that serves both sides, but ends up satisfying neither. I was hoping this would be the loogy in the eye that Floyd Grubb and his minions so richly deserve, but this seems to miss the mark.

I think you may be confusing cartoony and stylized with poor. There are plenty of satisfying details to be noticed. You can count on there being some of the best looking ability effects in all MMOG's. What's cool about the graphics is that they can add non-cartoony effects and they will really stand out when they do.
My only concern about the graphics is that I see a lot of character animations being reused a lot. I am hoping to see a little more variety in the animations.

Yeah just what I thought. I mean the cel-share looks cool with the characters close up, but the landscapes look like from EQ2 lanch days or even DAOC. Landscapes are really awfully simplistic, given all the detail I got used from LOTRO and AoC and the like by now. Really looks like falling a decade back or so.

This would be perfect if the graphics were more like DC onlines.

But then again, and that's one of the reasons World of warcraft (whch I personnally don't play) has managed to retain so many players, YOU DON'T NEED NO EFFING SUPERCOMPUTER TO PLAY IT !
Just as some other poster said, I'll take style against polycount anytime, cause I can't afford to buy a new computer every time a new so-called AAA title is released.
Besides, I suggest you take a look at games a decade old, see if the detail level is anything close to this. People seem to forget how quick the graphics technologies have evolved these last few years...
hmm..estimated release of spring '09...does anyone else smell open beta? finally! i can get my superhero fix without having to sub back to COV just to find out im on the only one in the whole damn server.
breaking news, a brawl broke out between the hogger and arthas the lich king downtown gadgetzan. there where no survivers
Yeah doesn't seem to get much hype on these boards butt hats ok we don't need another overhyped game that fails.
Yeah, I'm sick of the hype machines most of these new-fangled games have. That said, ign posted three (very short) gameplay videos days ago and nobody here seems to have noticed (including me). A little bit more hype might not be a bad thing. I get the impression that's party why they hired Bill Roper.
The new videos are all in city zones and the graphics look a lot sharper and more interesting than the outdoor stuff we were recently shown. And if throwing a police car doesn't sound like fun gameplay to you people, then you and I are never gonna like the same things. (I'd like to see them work on the car throw animation though. It's cheesy how it just disappears after the attack.)

I heard him say Spring 2009. Didn't hear April, but I was shocked at how soon it'll be coming out.
